Folks,
Can we find a common place to upload/download songs? People like me who own 19th century computers need a less restrictive, time irrelevant place to patiently download music. I still haven't been able to crack geocities and listen to one of Divakar's compositions. Just a thought. This page has enough contributions per week now to warrant a database all its own. Any thoughts?

Udhaya:
Having a dedicated database is a good thought.
I support it. Anyway let's see how this can be accomplished.

Aditya

Hi Renu,
Let me be the first one to welcome you to this wonderful thread. Its really nice to come across a female composer. Most of the composers who frequent this thread are listed at the top of this page.
As for me, i am a singer and not a composer. However, you can listen to some of my songs at
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/radhikrish
Do you have a web site where we can hear your music?

How do you guys record and upload your songs/instrumental compositions in the yahoo briefcase? I would like to know how one could do that.

kaumudi,
My recording medium is very primitive. I use the Sound Recorder to create a wav file and then convert it using dBpoweramp Music converter which is available for free download. Yahoo briefcase has the upload feature. However, i am using the paid upgrade service of yahoo briefcase which is the reason it allows me to enable public viewing of my files. The basic service only allows other yahoo members to access. I am sure Aditya and the others can enlighten you more on this subject.
I read in your previous post that you are a singer. looking forward to hearing your songs

Kaumudi:
I do PC based recording with an external Mixer, keyboard, sound modules, microphone, instruments like veena and guitar, software synthesizer and sound card.
Basically you record the stuff into the PC hard disk in some format and then use some softwares which will give you the functionality of exporting to any favorite format like MP3 and then you can share it with people...
Gadget acquisition is like an addiction to any Musician - no different from alcohol or
cigarette:-))...I am contemplating on upgrading to a Hard Disk Recorder, better mixer and so on...
Although these gadgets can be aquired easily...what's important is to put them to use effectively...Everyone can learn the effective usage of them gradually sooner or later. This is just an execution part of it...Musician will anyway have to be creative, spontaneous otherwise...
Anyway we have several options to record...
This is the most discussed topic in these threads...Hang around here for another 3 months... I am sure you will learn more about this...
For basic understanding of PC recording...refer the following. http://www.pcrecording.com/articles.htm
Alternatively, I suggest you can state your requirements of recording...I am sure you will get a good suggestion from many experienced people here in detail.
Give it a try...
Regards,
Aditya

Hi Radhika
I listen your Songs.Your Voice is Exeelent and Amazing.I Did B.A Indian Music when I was in India(2yrs before)But I am afraid I don't have that much knowledge in singing(Before listening you I thought I am also a singer)
In u.K I am studying about Music technology Course in a College. So I can use my college studio and use all the softwares and Hardwares.(But I am Beginner)I am very much interested in Composing than Singing.
But I don't know whether I have good knowledge in composing (!!!)Anyway Thanks for asking me to listen my tunes. But I have them in an audio file I don't have more computer knowledge to create a Webpage or add my tune in a site. Can anybody help me for adding my tunes in a webpage?

Renu,
Thanks a ton for your kind words. My music is mostly self taught although i did take carnatic music classes for a while. Good to know that you are specializing in music technology and you have so many resources available. My suggestion is to browse thro the archives of this thread and keep visiting regularly.I am sure you will learn a lot from the technology experts here.

For Kaumudi
I use the Software Reason 2.0(propellerhead)and Logic(E-magic)for recording(I got them in college)But if you buy them it is more than Cakewalk.
For Homerecording(PC)you must need a Midi Keyboard,Soundcards and a Software like Cakewalk or Reason(It's better for beginners). But you have to Spend some Pounds to Set up these.
If you are a Singer you have to buy a mic also. Then follow the steps. You will learn them easily.
Good Luck

Renu,
Please dont mistake me. What i meant is that you are in good company here with all the other composers. I will always be here to appreciate, encourage and support all of you in your music. Technologically, i may not be of much help. Anyway, lets move on to your music.

Hi renuka,
One way is to use your yahoo acct to create a website at www.geocities.com(its like opening a mail acct).
they give you 20Meg space I guess. Once you open a geocities webspace for U Use the Yahoo page builder available on the website which will guide you thru the different aspects of your website including adding music to Ur site.
Alternatively once you get the 20megs space add a folder and upload your music files to the website.
You bet its easy! Incase you have specific questions or this reads Greek to Ya I can help ya or there's always someone in this forum that can help you with it...
Looking forward to hearing Ur music!
