Raja magal is C Ramchandra's music - he is famous for giving the western touch as in eena meena dikka and a huge number of hindi songs.

I believe M.S' kaatrinile varum geetham is a tamil translation of Meerabai's hari aawan ki awaaz, aaj suni mein...

What does 'thEsulavuthE' mean? I got the manaalane mangaiyin baakkiyam/kanavane kankanda deivam album just because of this song. KKD seems to be a remake/dubbed version of Nagin with songs like enthan ullam thulli vilayaduvathum yeno (mera dil kab tak pukaare) etc.

Kishore Krishna, I think you have confused the song Man DOlE mEra than dOlE with mera dil kab tak pukaare. BTW, I haven't heard this song at all. Are you referring to Mera Dil yE pukaarE aajaa?

The percussion/beat through out the song, Pesuvadhu Killiyaa there is one beat which follows a second late and drags the song which is brilliant.

Kannadasan and MSV contributed to the success of this song.
Kannadasan wrote this song having Sarojadevi(Kannadathu Painkili) and MGR(Chera naattaan) in mind.

Description about MGR:

MSV usedd the same tune in two other songs, as pointed out by Ilayaraja on several occassions. The other songs that carried the same tune are:

There is something to the recording of the song "VaNNakkiLi Sonna Mozhi" - I remember the recordist saying on TV once, many years back that "Andha maadhiri 'thirupthi' yaa recording amainja song vera illa..." - something in these lines. Manisekaran, do you have some info on this?

About the pEsuvadhu kiLiyaa song...

Manisekaran sort of guessed right. The story is
that around the time Panathottam was being made
(1962-63) MGR and Kannadhasan had developed some
serious differences; it had to do with some pressure
put on Kannadhasan had to write lyrics for MGR's
songs. Kannadhasan was asked to pen this song in
that period. So the kavinjar, it seems, decided to
take a dig at MGR without making that obvious to
anyone, and wrote that song. This becomes clear
when you see the lines sung by PS that describe
MGR...

paaduvadhu kaviyaa illai paari vaLLal maganaa?

hEy! Who wrote this song? Was it me, the kavinjar
or the (fellow calling himself as a) vaLLal?

chEranukku uRavaa illai chenthamizhar nilavaa?

--a mallu calling himself as a pure Thamizhan

villEndhum kaavalanthaanaa vEl vizhiyaaL kaadhalanthaanaa?

--this probably was a dig about MGR's relationship
with some female!

-- obviously pointing to MGR's weakness for women,
I guess!

Manisekaran:

In 1963 there were two movies, Chenthaamarai
and Thendral Veesum, for which Viswanathan-Ramamurthy
were the MDs. I know very little about the
movies and the songs. If you have details, can
you please give us. Is it possible to get the
songs recorded somewhere?
