If people had ignored the original Guess Me posting as one by a person trying to feel important by statements like that, he would learn his lesson. But as people have dignified such comments with others, you are never going to stop him. These things become fodder who crave for attention. And for peopple who try to reason this thing out with Guess me, they need to realize that the original comment was not made of rationale but of spite. No amount of rationale will appeal to people like that. The best way to treat these people is to ignore them. Making statements like that reflect more on the people who post these statements than IR. Nor does Kamal or other producers are likely to change thier opinion after that spiteful posting. Ignore and hope they go away.

Note Man:
"And Kamal (and so many others over years) is getting Hollywood (or the best possible) quality music for peanuts."
IR has his own style and was perfect till mid 90s and the quality deteriorated after that. But he never attained the so called "hollywood quality".

Some things are better than hollywood kind too mate. It is so sad to see colonial mentality still rampant, in these days of Indian resurgence. You will keep making such statements until the day you actually feel and understand IRs music. Its like a life changing experience and no one can really explain that to you. You talk about his own style, I bet that you don't even know the number of styles IR has expertly experimented with.
If Kadhalikku Mariyadhai, Bharati, Julie Ganapathy, Azhagi, SMK, Ivann, Konji Pesalam, Hey Ram, Virumaandi etc are deteriorating quality, then God save TFM. As usual the general audience of music conveniently ignore BGM aspect of movies and accordingly the genius musician in IR who gave stunning BGMs for Sethu, Hey Ram, Lajja, Julie Ganapathy etc. Only someone who does not appreciate the real talent of IR will call of this work as deteriorating.
kr.. last post, hope his no logic comments go away.

Note Man, ;--) it is like hearing water-brained people say Sivaji was not Hollywood quality. Who the f_ says Sivaji needs to be Hollywood type and have no comparison in history of films. Has the world (Hollywood) experienced a IR or Sivaji or is it ever going to? Is even India ever going to find another supernovas of these kind?
I don't like this hollywood bulsheet i am hearin from people including Orchestra conductors ;-) You can compare only with what you are familiar with.

IR doesnt need to go after hollywood quality. He has his own style and set his own standards.
Note Man, you posted a list of IR movies and try to prove that IR is still IR in the 80s. Well, you yourself should be knowing a lot of movies released before mid 90s and sincerely do you think IR still has that quality?

Why do u compare IR when hollywood music is far below the level of symphony music. IR is a rare genius who has composed a 3.5 hr symphony in a record time of 7 months. He is the only non white man who has recieved standing ovation from the musicians who play symphony music.

Why kamal goes for IR?
1) Old friends - easy to work with
2) It's rajkamal production - IR is cheaper than ARR, and can churn out folkish melodies in a week.
3) U dont need Hollywood quality music for Tamil movies - purely becoz audience dont expect them anyways.

IR asst...
Defineltu not friends or cheap .....
its because he is HCIRF........He beleives IR as music god........and he only will do what he likes and he cares a foot for other things .........including money....for him satisfaction is more important than money...so even if others try to tell him that IR is not commercially successful, he wont listen ......He wants pure originality ,creativity ,quality of IR...
and hollywood music is more professional that s
all .......but we are creative.........

T.Muthu,
Kamal was born on 7th November 1954&so he turned 50 last year.this year was his 51st birthday. He never called himself 50 now,it's some sections of the media who have got it wrong.Anyway he is one of the few actors whose birth year we know,he has no inhibitions in giving out his age.
mnt,
Even i am curious to know the tamil version of the hindi films he has mentioned.Gauthami is the new woman in his life, didn't you know!!!

Cinefan,
In most countries the age is number of completed years. So Kamal is 50 years old and is entering/in his 51st year. In TN, people tend to use that as the age. I think that's the reason for the 50/51 confusion ...

Cinefan,
Thanks. apaada, ini nimmathiyaa thoongalaam:-)
I did hear some rumbles about Gowthami around the time Virumaandi/Sandiyar controversy was going on. I guess that non-issue over shadowed this non-issue:-)
So some one out there:
Please enlighten us about the three Hindi movies Kamal has mentioned.
athu sari,
What sort of 'Tamil' names are rama'das', and KrishnaSwamy?
They both have snaskrit elements in them. These two fools should be beaten up for having non-Tamil names. Traitors to mother Tamil.

err...dude (I have included in the parenthesis, "best possible" which I intended to mean as best possible standard in case hollywood is not the best in the music business)
paran...jokeaa? If I were to consider BGMs as the standard for his quality, the list would be much longer.
T Muthu...thats my point too.
Guess Me,
This is what I think. Sure IR has fallen from mass adulation as was in the 80-90 period. But his quality has not really suffered. We can only say that he has changed his style and is focusing more on novel orchestrization for familiar situations. E.g., for Virumaandi he could have just gone back to his old self and used more tabla based orchestrization, but he experimented with different instruments to get the same feel.
If you say that he has been giving bad music for some movies and only few recent movies are worthwhile, that was the case in the past too. Not all songs of his are classics. But every movie of his has atleast one superb song. Movies like Avatharam, Kadhalikku Mariyadhai, Kaadhal Kavithai, Kanukkul Nilavu, Bharati, Hey Ram, Julie Ganapathy, Virumaandi, Konji pesalam have great songs. These songs are really superb in terms of melody and orchestrization and are definitely comparable to any of his classics from the 80s. And if we consider BGM then we know his quality has gotten better as the saying goes about old wine getting better with age. With this kind of output, honestly, I still await IR's albums as I know that his quality is still great.
Its like awaiting Tendulkar's innings, he does not click each time, but when he does there no better sight for me in cricket.
Sure, IR is not scoring for a lot more movies either because of age or lack of motivated film makers, besides working on two private projects TIS and Moods of Ilaiyaraaja drains him out anyway. An artist of IR's calibre craves challenges, if he does a mass action flick or a movie for some unfamiliar banner, it will be only for money or to encourage new directors. Moreover, you can't ask a 60 year old to sit through 8hrs of watching movies and compose BGM for 40 such movies. He is right now doing what his fans have been asking for ages, to focus more on the quality of music and come up products which really showcase his talent, instead of wasting time on movies.

Mumbai express would be loosely based on a Spanish TV film "Tempus Fugit". Kamal already purchased the rights from Enric Folch (director) unlike other Topclass director claim his own.
