Very good choice,bb!
I could listen to Vijay's and MS' works- each of the two interpretations of Udhaya's lyrics are distinctly attractive.
Vijay, never knew you were such a good singer! Best wishes.
Divakar's interludes are wonderful, and the rain-washed prelude and that extended postlude are scintillating!
Kaumudi, couldn't listen to your song :-(
bb, can you do something about it?

oh! god! ethanai vahai. nallathor veenai cheithe athai nalam pera thamizhanidathil thandhu vittal sivasakthi. I am happy indeed about some music directors flying abroad for scoring LOTR and Thiruvasakam, keeping in mind the potential composers in the land. Everyone tried well.
Kaumudi, Rjay, MS, Divakar, Ungal Nanban and Vijay, wish you all the success! Well Done! Keep it up.

bb,
Thanks for this nice gesture. This is just a sign of so many people waiting to get discovered. I wish there were talent contests or active scouts for TFM, we would unearth so many new talents.

The geocities website is often problematic. Try cutting and pasting the link in a new window, it might help.

Kaumudi, thanks for the suggestion, could listen to your song. Wow! Your interpretation is totally different, and you bring a ruminating, thoughtful mood to the lyrics. Your voice is captivating--I liked that short opening humming. Can scarcely believe you don't understand Tamil much! Great effort! All the best!

Song of the Day: thoongaatha kaNNendru ondru from Kungumam.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/thoongaatha.rm
- An evergreen song by TMS and P.Suseela. Music by K.V.Mahadevan. Lyrics by Kannadasan.
- Manisegaran wrote in the KVM thread:
KUNGUMAM (1963)
This is a film of Sivaji. This film had good songs and the film ran well. Sivaji Ganesan, Ranga Rao, MV Rajamma, Vijayakumari and Saradha are the main stars.
There is this love duet by TMS and P Suseela, that would remain one of my favourite songs of all times. KVM has once again composed in a manner that is truly mind-boggling.
- In the last part of the song, PS hums in the background as TMS sings the pallavi. For me, this is the most beautiful part of the song, and I wonder why the humming was not used in the initial stages of the song. It almost looks like an afterthought to let PS hum in the background. The song is also let down the repetition of each line in the charanam. Why should each line be sung twice? Was it a filler because Kannadasan wouldn't give different lyrics? :)

thanks to all those who listened and commented on the sindhipOgum mugile songs.
Thoongadha kaNNendru ondru:
It is a great song. I remember watching this song repeatedly in chitrahaar and it terminates with sivaji removing his toupee. It requires people to come off age to appreciate KVM and MSV I believe. Kids who now are swayed ARR would later muse about IR when they become adults, I think. Being able to appreciate old greats requires some deliberation.
To everybody KVM is a master of semi-classicals. Whenever required he could churn out supremely beautiful songs like (1) thoongadha kaNNendru (2) oruththi oruvanai (3) poontheril kalandhu (4) and the greatest classic - malargaL nanaindhana paniyaale. malargaL nanaindhana paniyaale in my opinion would be an apt reference to the listener's eyes :-)

Sindippogum song : I could hear only the dhool versions (MS's and Vijay's(Iam not sure which Vijay's).Both the versions are melodious and with orchestration , could give the current MDs a good run.
Vijay's in BridhavanaSaaranga has a smooth flow.
"Etti pogum vaahanam" notes need a bit of polishing. You could start "Etti" with a slightly higher note.
MS's version's humming in the end has a lingering effect.

Vijay, hope you are not the Vijay (Venkatram),the "Doctor"!I listened to your version again today.
I suggest you and MS try out more of Sandhakavidhaigal.Generally composing for a pudhukavidhai has the inherent danger of pulling you into an one-way drift in the charanams.I suggest Suddhananda Bharathiyar,Gopalakrishna Bharathi songs apart from Mahakavi's wherein you will have an opportunity to construct a pallavi revert back to it after charanams smoothly and the sandhams will hold & engage the listener constantly.
For eg you take 2 Bharathiyar songs "Endru thaniyum intha sudahndira dhagam" and "Entha neramum nin mayal".Look at GR's tune and LV's tune both are impressive at the pallvi.but in the charanams GR gets a distinct advantage because of the lyrics. You can feel the drift in LV's tune "Nenjamara thazhuvi amara nilai".Both the MD and the singer would have found it difficult to get back to the pallvi.

We have already done many semi-classicals together with bharathi's peoms or some others from literature. We hope to release them somedday. Nice suggestions and thanks.

OISG, vijayvenkatraman(who runs the yahoo club for IR fans) is a different person. I have been a regular here in DF and in this thread for a long time now :-) your suggestions noted. If something materializes, will be glad to let you and others know about it.

Vijay, MS, Karumudi, Rjay, Divakar, UngaL Nanban: Have you ever thought of sending the files to a radio station like oli or Merina.com?

Song of the Day: Theme music from Thiruda Thiruda and Andhi mandhArai.
Today's SOTD has two theme music bits by A.R.Rahman, one from Thiruda Thiruda and one from andhi mandhaarai.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/thirudathirudatheme.rm
This is the thiruda^2 theme music. The adventurous tone is set, and we get the feeling of fast action from this theme. It starts off slowly, with the chirping of birds, and a slow, serene awakening to the adventure yet to come. The speed picks up and soon the fast violins take over to give us a thrilling sense of suspense and action. The music meanders through various moods, but in the end, seems to portray the spirit of the movie accurately.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/andhimandharaitheme.rm
This is quite the opposite of the Thiruda Thiruda track. This theme song from andhi mandhaarai is slow, short and melodious, without any elaborate orchestration. Sounds more like a piece from the new-age genre. A single flute plays the melody, with an apt piano accompaniment.

AndhiMandharai is my pick - short but sweet
TT-though brilliant in parts , sounds disjoint
