Golden voice - P.B. Srinivas

Hi everyone,
I have recently discovered P.B. Srinivas thro' musicindiaonline.com. His voice is so clear, deep and rich. He seems to have sung many old songs. Was he a a recognized artise in his time? Did he receive any awards?

  What a rich, strong, sonorous voice PB Sireenivaas had. Wish Taamilians had broadened their listening experience by hearing Kannada songs, wherein his true, homely magic of voice exists.
  
  Someone should come up with the list of his songs, catagorised according to the years; so that we can see when he was more extensively used.

  I will check my email. Regarding the PS-PBS album - I have no idea regarding the original title. It seems like one of those "omnibus" recordings. The audio is not half-bad, considering how old these tracks are, and my discovery of these tapes was entirely by chance (of course, I was looking for some VJ songs!! :-))

  Outsider, it may be difficult to have a list of PBS's Kannada songs from 50's to mid 70's. His was the voice for Rajkumar covering all types of songs. From mid 70s, Rajkumar started using his own voice for his films.

  Thanks for the tip. That is a lovely lovely song. Such a soothing one at that. Thanks for reminding such a good song. What a distinct voice the man had. Apart from being a good singer, he is a very profilic writer/lyricist in several Indian languages. A great artist indeed!

  There is no difficult to have the list of PBS's Kannada songs. I have huge collections of his Kannada songs. After 1975 Rajkumar started using his own voice. But Rajkumar always says Sharira(body) is mine but Shaareera(voice) is always Srinivas's. Sometimes I get bored to hear Raj's voice but I always love to hear PBS voice.I read lot of kannada interviews of PBS,he says PBS means Play Back Singer.

  Melody, the minsara kanna was in the context of the other Sreenivas who sang the said number. That pretenious person gets on my nerves every time he opens his mouth...

  Naaz there sems to be some problem in our email server.Pls confirm receipt of my mail. Otherwise I'll resend the mail. I thought as much( that you found out about the PBS songs while looking for VJ songs!) Anyhow let other forum members find how useful one can be to another( unlike IR vs ARR-- couldn't resist the barb when an opportunity presents itself it has to be utilised)
  By the way there is a PJ-VJ duet in a K Shankar movie which came in the wake of the Stupendous success of Varuvaan Vadivelan- Kannanai Ninaithaal sonnathu Palikkum. Has it been discussed. a lovely song. I am not able to get into Neel's page today. Hence I couldn't confirm if it is there or not.It is a simple soothing number.

  Since I don't have much to contribute in this thread, let me give the meaning of PS. As far as I know, in Vaishnavite tradition, a person who is a terror to the opponent ( Prathivaadhi ) in philosophical debates / arguments is known as Prathivaadhi Bhayankaram. One famous example is Prathivaadhi Bhayankaram ANNangaraachaariyaar! It is another matter that PBS is too soft a person to be 'Bhayankaram' to anybody!!!!!!

  Where is the list of PB Sreenivaas Taamil songs?
  What's the matter? It is not so difficult to compile. After all he is no BaalaSubramaniam whose Taamil songs number 20 thousand, and are almost impossible to have an exhaustive list.

  PBS is good , but for his nasal r'd-ring. TMS is ultimate with his versatility for slow (yAr antha nilau) and fast (ennai theriyuma..) songs.
