  Pithamahan is a movie with exaggerated acting pattern. It will not get award. Kadhal kondein was bit realistic.
  Just bcaz showing SUDUKADU you wont get award.
  Anbe Shivam may get national award for acting but not this PILOT PREMANATH kind of acting movie

  My Dear Vatsa !
  My criticism of Kamal was on a different ethical platform. In fact I enjoyed "Anbe sivam" very much. Kamal did a memorable act but for the too elderly looking makeup after the accident. It is no doubt that he is one of the good actors of Tamil filmdom, but spoilt.

  I am happy you got the point. 'Sudukadus' and 'vettiyans' without credible characterisation and with a weak script cannot aspire for class.
  
  If you have the patience to sit through the movie a second time , you will realise that the screenplay is erratic and all the characters hang in the air without a credible bond.
  
  I think enough is said on PITHA MAGAN (ARUVAI MAGAN) and the subject is closed. the movie does not deserve any further discussion.

  Kalki has awarded "Distinction" rating for Pithamagan. Recent movies with "Distinction" rating from Kalki are
  1. Julie Ganapathi
  2. Paandavar Bhoomi
  3. Solla marandha kadhai
  4. Ramana
  AnbeSivam review did not appear.
  I would not give weightage to any Tom 's reviews in mushrooming websites, satellite channels.
  Kalki film review is one of the very few reliable, unbiased, standard reviews and unlike others , they don't do story telling.
  TF is facing acute creativity crisis that, Kalki gives encouraging reviews even for slightly offbeat, decently made films like Kutty , Bharathi .

  Kumudam has also given a very positive review. And it rates PM as the best current movie (both in Boxoffice and Kumudam top5). By far, all the reviewers have been in high praise of the film and laud the efforts of Bala. The only review I read that does not commend is that of Sify.   If you look at my earlier posting I have mentioned, the last couple of MRs movies had lot of subtle scenes and was among his best. This is ... Alaipayuthey and Kannathil Muthamittal. I enjoyed watching them. I enjoyed Anbe Sivam because it did not have anything embarassing and it was subtle and unusual for a tamil movie. Its sad KM and AS was not a Box office hit.
  
  Do you want to Madhavan and Kamal to pair with say ... Sripriya for Anbe Sivam because she is of similar age as Kamal or change the story because kamal is old. It does not make sense. I dont see any problems with that movie. I strongly condemn scenes in movies where some actress is exploited.
  If Kamal acts as a teenage college student like Chinni Jayanth or Sivaji and cho (there were in their late 50s and it showed) in a movie which I could not recall ... then your argument makes sense it does not go well with the movie.
  
  Its absurd arguing he should not act with young actresses. I have seen a french movie with one of the greatest actor Marlon Brando (he wast atleast 50 when this was made) paired up with an young actress (and it had alot of stuff which will not be screened in mainstream indian cinema for atleast 10 yrs from now). People call it class not gross (I cited this example just because ur a foreign movie fan).

  Tell me why is Kiran nevessary at all for this movie?? I found it too absurd and too fantastically co-incidental that Madhavan and Kamal meet and Madhavan's fiancee is Kamal's ex-lover.

  If kamal had made this movie without a glamor heroine, I would have saluted this movie.
  
  So basically Vatsa, before I go on further, please explain to me why should Kiran be included in this serious message movie. She is unnecessary in the script isn't it?

  I think Kiran episode is needed for the climax. The underlying stream about the movie is against capitalism and highlighting hatred in the society. This movie is basically a story and not a series of incidents. If its just a meeting between Madhavan and Kamal then I dont think it would have made an impact. It would have been a documentary than a movie and I think its part of narration.
  
  I think KM and Alaipayuthey had things are little dramatic if you think alot about it. For example, a scene when Madhavan "hugs" Shalini's sister. Do you think its normal? Some scenes in KM where Madhavan is over-energetic ... looked artificial.
  
  And I dont know why you say Kiran is a glamor heroine alone? This is absurd. This movie did not have anything obscene or irrelevant. Its like saying why Simran was chosen for KM, since she is basically a glamor heroine.

  I still dont understand. What would have been missing if Kamal came to the marriage and also came to know that Maddy's father-in-law is the same man he opposed!!!
  
  I felt not a milligram sympathetic towards Kamal that he was not getting his lover Kiran. In fact I felt "appada" for once Kamal is not marrying the heroine of the movie and it is Maddy.
  
  Yes the movie is about a common man's fight against capitalism and imperialist pseudo-intellectual thoughts. But I thought the Kamal-Kiran duet, Kamal-Kiran romance scnenes were took the movie away from what would have been otherwise a wise shot on an unexplored subject.
  
  Vatsa, Remove Kiran from the movie and judge for yourself. I dont think it would have been a documentary. Kamal could have still showed the flashback of him rebelling against Mr. Kandasamy Padaiachi w/out any reference to Kiran.
  
  And Madhavan's character is too far-fetched. His irritation is totally unwarranted! Infact a person would fell better listening to someone like Kamal spitting out unconventional wisdom every now and then.
  
  If this movie was given to someone like Mohsen Makhmalbaf or Régis Wargnier they would have made a masterpiece out of it! Total bulls-hit of a movie trying to mix seriousness with commercialism resulting in an unsavory and filthy mixture of melodrama, syllogisms and exaggerated depictions.

  Ofcourse it would have not been a hit with the brains that expect nonsense like Kiran dancing with her Thondhi shaking 3 flabs ever time she truns around.
  
  Only if our directors shed this compromise behavior to satisfy the horrible masses can we expect some really talented people like Kamal and IR to be appreciated worldwide!

  i too share the same feeling as V has towards the movie Anbe sivam. Kiran was totally unwanted element in the movie. i was watching the movie on the first day night show and the flashback episode was dragging on and on and on that i felt irritated, and finally came, that theatre scene where kiran cries [ same old
  'why sakthi why' frm devar magan] i felt irritated and shouted 'deiiiii padatha podungada' the whole theatre gave an applause for me. after this i lost interest in the movie and thought when will all this come to an end. and the climax was the one i guessed beforehand and said 'look i wont be surprised if the girl madhavan is going to marry is kiran'.
  after coming out of the theatre and thinking over why i was irritated so much cos my freind asked its a good movie and why i shouted in the theatre i said ' i dont know may be its kiran episode' . long time after, after careful analysis and viewing the movie in VCD [ofcourse ffw kiran scenes] i felt this is a very good movie and i hav to edit this movie for kamal.
