I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Hi AVR,
Nowhere in my earlier message did I mention a "LACK" in other singers. On the contrary, I acknowledged the wonderful contribution of Suseela Janaki and Chitra to film music - that being Tamil/Telegu and Malayalam - predominantly. I suggest you read my message again...The point I was making was about VJ's felicity in classical styles for film music. This does not mean that others have less or more. The evidence of songs sung by VJ are proof of her training - and I merely offered it as one of the reasons why her "classical" numbers are still sought after by admirers like us.
I agree comparisons are odious - and they completely obscure the "individuality" and "uniqueness" when one singer is pitted against the other. I have a problem with every singer (female) being compared to Lata or Asha. Why should anybody sound or be like Lata or Asha? Nobody addresses the inherent problems of such a comparison. If Vani sounded like Lata then she would be a Lata-clone and would never be Lata - for if she were she'd have to BE Lata...Comparisons deny an artist Originality. They rob them of their "own" speciality. The sooner we get out of the comparison game the better equipped we are to appreciate every artiste on their OWN terms.
I am a bit disappointed, however, that you have completely misunderstood - and have misread - my clarification.
Here are some more solos for the list:
Poonvanna Veenai Poonthendral Ragam
Poonguyil Vaaduthu Kathal Ragam Paaduthu
Aathoram Kodi Veedu Adhan Mele Gopalan
Innikkum Ilamai Enidam Irrukku
Panimalar neeril Aadum Azhagai Rasikka
Asaiulla Roshakkara Mama
Vazhdhal Unnodu Vazhndiruppen
Paadum Vande Parthathunda
(seldom heard)Duets:
Samudra Rajakumara (SPB)
Vennilla Oduthu (Jayachandran)
Megham Mundhanai (SPB)
Indru Kakkaikum Kurivikkum Kalyanamam (KJY?)

Neels is another gentleman. I am Neel/NeelD. "Rasikanae arugil vaa" is by S.P.Sailaja. Uma Ramanan is a great singer totally under-utilized.
The key - word is "gentleman". Just kidding :-)
The raajanagham site credits this song to IR and VJ. It actually starts like this - "one two three" by IR.
Anyway, it was only a 1 minute clip, so I dont feel I am guilty of confusing voices. :-)

Ooooops, yes I really did misunderstand your clarification, sorry. Yes, but I did not mean to compare VJ to LM/AB - thats for sure.

Hi,
This earlier question of mine went unanswered:
Is there a song by Vani Jairam in "Muthu"? If so, is there a site where I can locate/find it?
And:
Is the song by VJ in Nandha available on the disc/cassette ( I know it did not make it to the film)
Thanks.
Naaz
PS: AVR - Just to reassure you that I am also a "Northie" (though that should be "Westie") as Mumbai is more in that direction?
I am fluent in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati... English, of course, and a working knowledge of French. Just FYI.

Do the 3 dots stand for another set of languages :-)
I wonder how u managed to learn so many Indian languages. In Pune, there's a craze for learning "foreign languages" only :-) I was a victim of the same and learnt German and a bit of Japanese.

AVR, the three dots are for Kutchi,Kannada, and Bengali - however, I don't speak these as fluently as the ones I mentioned earlier.
My MotherTongue is Urdu. Born in Mumbai, Raised in Chennai, Now (forever and ever) in North America.
Where in Pune do you live? And did you get to writing Bani Music Co - for VJ's music with Mahapatra-Maharaj?
Naaz
It's JAIRAM - not JAYARAM.

I prefer writing it as Jayaram, rather than Jairam.
No I have not written as yet, but will do so soon.

Ok - let's assume your name is Vinod - would it be fine with you if I spelled it as Vinodh or Veenod, or Venode...? Spelling somebody else's name the way they spell it themselves is a sign of respecting something that is VERY integral to who they are....
I would never like my name to be spelled any other way than how I spell it myself. It annoys me greatly when someone does otherwise. It feels like they are addressing somebody else - not me.
AVR - Bani Music Co does not have a website unfortunately. I know it would help a great deal if they did...But writing a letter or request to that address I sent you should not take too much time...that is if you are really keen on getting those albums.
Of course, that is entirely your call.
I am Pan-Indian...I like to think of myself in that way - and isn't every Indian that way...given that we are all essentially bilingual, if not multilingual?

Naaz: On "Aadum ini thotilinil Ayindhu Thingal Ponal"
Are you thinking of "aadumadi thottil ingE aindhu thingaL pOnAl"? This is by PS in avaL oru thodarkathai.
More VJ: naan paadi kondE iruppEn (sad & happy versions) in thappuththaaLangaL?
Apart from Guddi & Meera, what hindi songs has she sung in films? I've heard one duet with Mukesh, I think, possibly in Vishwas.
