...titled "Thendral" starring Karthik, produced by Oscar Films V.Ravichandran. Is it Ilayaraja or Vidyasagar? Please let me know. Also, provide a link, if you guys can, where it confirms that Ilayaraja or Vidyasagar is doing the music for Thangar's next film.

U GUYS CAN NEVER ACCEPT ANYONE ELSE AS GOOD EXCEPT IR>> This requires great capability to have a this kind of fan following with Music. Its is many time simpler for an actor to create a fan following image. For people who work in the background in the area like Music it requires herculean effort boss. (Given a choice ARR would like have such group).
For your kind information, IR music is the most critically looked in terms of orchestration, singers, lyrics, mood of the film, technical details like swara bedham, chords progression. For proof just look over so many threads in newtfmpage.
ARR music is hailed without any technical justification, just because of commercial success (you guys treat $ equivalent to greatness, I beg to differ)
Height of the comment : his BGM sucks in many low-budget movies = YOU HAVE NO CLUE OF WHAT YOUR'E TALKING ABOUT. You want the list, I am ready with it, to start with BHARATHI

Maddy,
Dont compare IR and ARR atleast wrt BGM. I can recall few movies where ARR's BGM was good or decent. With IR, I can recall only few movies in which his BGM was decent or bad. Most were good or great. IR gives better BGM for good directors alone? ARR cannot even do for good directors. Here are few examples: --- Bombay, Iruvar (this was the worst), in some movies he does not do BGM because he thinks the movie is not good enough? I have no doubt he is a very good composer, but ARR and BGM does not go well.
You call Deepa Mehta as a good director? All her movies were hyped for nothing. One more thing in your posting -- kamal copied drohkaal? check the titles of Kuruthi Punal, you will see Govind Nihalani as the story writer. Check what you are talking about. Dont convince others that ARR is great. If he is good, most will say he is good.
I can give you a list of people who have said IR is a great composer that includes Hariprasad Churasia, L. Subramaniam, Balamurali Krishna, Zubin Mehta and Bharathiraaja and others. Do you think these guys are not knowledgable?
See if ARR or IR comes up with bad music, everyone is entitled to say its bad. If I feel IR or ARR is good, its my own judgement. I dont know why you want to convince people.

IR sucked with "Manasellam" (pls dunt call it a gud album).. V did you criticise it? then y this treatment for BOYS only... i know ARR is gr8 and i need not convince anybody....it is u guys who made me do this... u come into ARR's threads and throw accusations at my man... u want me to stay quiet like other ARR fans? no i wont till i feel it is impossible to convince u guys that ARR is no way lesser to IR...... (and one more point i always accept IR as the gr8est Tamil film music director but i feel ARR has potential to rule alien places and people. so they are gr8 in their own ways, but u guys are hell-bent on putting down ARR)

Hi Mad(dy),
I didnt comment about manasellam, because its a nothing album too. I didnt comment about udhaya or any other recent ARR album. I commented about BOYZ because its getting hyped for nothing. I gave my opinion. If you dont want me to post my opinion, just dont call this a forum. Start ur own forum and let in people who you like (and who do you think will favor ur opinion). Or in this forum, give a title like ARR's BOYZ (ARR veriyan's only). None of the decent guys will get into that thread. See I am a fan of neither. I am just a guy who listen to good music (atleast whatever music which satisifies my definition of good music). So, you just shut up and mind your business. You are the one who come in every thread and talk about ARR and he is great. If you know he is great, good, discuss something different.
And one more thing, you guys think ARR is around the world and so on. I live in London. Not one of my colleagues know who ARR is. Just because ARR bombay dreams got released here doesnt mean ARR is ruling the world. Bombay dreams success is just not because of him. First see Bombay dreams to understand the whole thing. He is a very good composer, no doubt.

Since everyone has started the comparison business I will just add a few comments here.
Beethovan, Mozart, Bach, Thyagaraja all made beautiful music. They did not make film songs as their media was different. They made music which played on peoples' hearts and emotions. Which means that their audience was vast and their music was meant to survive ages. When IR composes music for songs he might have a particular audience or situation in mind. But when he composes music for the situations he composes in a more generic way and expresses emotions or feelings through music. This background music has to touch hearts of people irrespective of who listens to it. Which means that composing background music is far too difficult to compose than just to compose songs. To compose a song you will use raagas, and people like IR will use sruthi bedham, to build newer tunes. But this can be done by anyone since raagas can be learnt from teachers and if you know even just mohanam, kalyani ragaas you can probably tune a melodious song in minutes. In fact the folk songs sung by farmers, shephards indicate that you do not even need to know raagas to compose a melodious song.
All of this is to show that composing BGM is way too difficult than composing songs. People may forget songs, they may change their tastes but they will always feel the same whenever they listen to such BGM pieces. A true muscian's worth is not by the amount of cassette sales or publicity stunts. It is how much it touches people's hearts. As far as anyone is concerned ARR has not yet done great BGM works nor has he shown inclination in that area. The hip songs will be popular only until a more hipper song comes by (Chiku buku.. followed by Mukabla... followed by Oh podu... followed by Boom Boom? and so on. Just an example)
. After boys, e18u20 after that New and then after a while people will forget the songs leave alone the movie. But people have not forgotten moonram pirai, salangai oli, mouna raagam, anjali, or even a total masala movie like Agni Natchitaram, which played on our hearts and left an everlasting memory.
ARR's fans should be more critical of him and let him know that he needs to compose for a more generic audience and generic situations. They cannot just lap up whatever he is dishing out and start praising him to the sky. No hard working individual has ever progressed due to praise, it is only by way of constructive criticism that progress can be made and that's what ARR is a hardworking musician along with ten others in the field. If IR fans praise IR it is only because he has done great music and he is a genius whose work will not get affected due to praise or criticism.
I hope people will take my comments in a positive way.

Hi Maddy,
Two things -
1. I didnt say IR is known all over the world. Its ARR fans and you (if i am right) who said, ARR is known all round the world. If he is known all round the world, I will be one of the happier Indians. IR is not known in his own name in Mumbai. He is known as Anand Milind, Bappi Lahiri, Annu Malik, Kalyanji Anandji and others (who copied his music and printed their name on title cards, I dont give a damn to most Hindi MDs cuz they copy things left and right like our own DEVA). One of the biggest hits in bollywood of yesteryear dhak dhak (which I dont consider as haunting or a great number, but many including you would have said what a good song), is a copied version of IRs tune. Mumbai is not the world. If someone is not popular now, doesnt mean he produces mediocre music. Everything has to be assessed case by case. Carnatic is not popular compare to cine music doesnt mean carnatic is the worst music form. Its just there are dumbos all round.
2. I am tired of answering to you, because you seem to come from jungle with this kind of mad barking.
Jag,
that was a good one. Anyone should accept good music whether its from IR or ARR. Should criticise bad ones as well.

Ok
So why is this bloody bickering going on in this thread about Thangar Bacchan??
I am glad VS is doing the music for this.
I am also glad that Thangar is upright and he does not bow under arrogance and stupid remarks. Just like his movies he likes to take control of situations!
I cannot wait for Thendral!
Go VS!

Hi V (147 ...)
Do you know what happened between Thangar and IR?
I infer that there was some rift. Going by IR's track record, I dont think this is a rumour. VS is a good MD of the current lot. Atleast after IR's monopoly we got couple of good composers (no offence made to IR, he is one of the best composers of all time).
