  Dear PS Fans,
  
  After a long time, I am happy to reach you all. Before getting into the details of the grand function, I need to acknowledge at least a few.
  
  Having hit by slipped disc and tip-bone fracture, I suffered a lot. After a month bed rest, I had to face piled-up work at office and unexpected domestic issues. The main relief for me was only music and that was the medicine for my suffering. I realised the importance/effect of support from family and friends during that time. I must show gratitude to Kalai for his continuous motivation. Somewhere it is said that we should not speak about diseases to the patient. Whenever Kalai talked to or visited me, he shared many things about PS songs, website work and other music info. That was a real motivation for me to get out of stress.
  
  I was afraid of travel. Kalai started encouraging me slowly. samalinga subbu, try pannunga, nanga pathukarom etc. Adhepalli too encouraged me. Till Tuesday night, I was uncertain. But next morning, I got some enthu and confirmed to Kalai that I will also go with him to Chennai. My manamarndha nanrigal, Kalai.
  
  Throughout the shatapdi travel, we were recollecting many things and discussed about the website. Those include:-
  
  - Thenraja’s dedicated design work for website architecture and his splendid effort to continuously improve the design and performance
  - Rajesh’s very prompt responses and endless support to Kalai to obtain any kind of information for the site
  - Sreevidya’s night-out work to enrich the telugu films and songs and other related data.
  - Collection of write-ups, articles from various star authors like Vicky, Saravanan and others.
  - Never to miss, Kalai’s day and night work to consolidate and make the website big
  
  Though we were not clearly aware of the agenda for the function, Kalai said Adhepalli Rajagopal and Rajesh were the lead coordinators for the arrangements being made.
  
  I just thought that the function arrangements would be normal. But on our reach to Chennai, I exclaimed and wondered how much work had gone behind this great function. Rajagopal and Rajesh have tirelessly carried out a lot with great enthusiasm. Splendid effort.
  
  We were anxious and prayed sincerely the almighty for the success of the function.

  Now, I start on the function.
  
  13-Nov-2003, Thursday. Birthday of our beloved melody queen P. Susheela. The venue for the B-day function was Emeraldo conference room, Hotel GRT Grand, Thiagaraya Road, T.Nagar. It was a sophisticated and well-maintained mini hall. Kalai and myself reached the venue by 8.45am itself. Rajagopal with his family arrived within few minutes. Then Rajesh too. Rajagopal’s family was extending a great support to him in almost all the arrangements.
  
  The function facilitators from the hotel, Mr.Kesavan & his team, were very friendly and courteous to help us on anything that we needed. They arrangements and decorations were very good. They even said that the birthday cake will be their gift, as the Manager of Care-taking (Mr.George) is an ardent fan of PS.
  
  Kalai went busy with check-up of the health of the web-site. It was running normal temperature :) He made some touch-up too for the inaugural face-sheet.
  
  After the arrival of NDTV team (Start Vijay TV), one by one, Fans with family, Journalists, VIPs etc started coming in. The first VIP was Shri. Nalli Kuppusawai Chettiyar. Let me list the name of the other dignitaries:

  Smt. Sandhya (Daughter-in-law of PS)

  The heroine of the day along with her family was on the spot by 11.05am sharp. Ellor mugathilum punnagai. Oru magizhchi. She was given a warm reception by Smt.Adhepalli Rajagopal, Smt.Kamala (a devoted fan of PS) and all other fans.
  
  After the informal gestures among the celebrities, the function started. Adhepalli was the programme co-coordinator. Shall I bullet the memorable events….?
  
  = As MSV was not doing well, he had to leave early. He spoke a few words in high praise of PS for her contribution to music world and greeted her on the function.
  = As he was leaving, he was honored with a gift by PS. I was lucky to ‘pOthify’ ponnaadai for him.
  = Sandhya recited the invocation. A short Sanskrit sloka on Lord Ganesha.
  = Lighting the gigantic kuthu vilakku. PS and Sandhya did it with the help of Andal, Mrs.Rajagopal and Kamala.
  = Then the VIPs PBS, TKR, PS and Nalli KS were received at the dias.
  = Rajesh’ pride was to honor TKR, followed by Kalai honoring PBS and myself for Nalli KS.
  = I envy this ladies team. Andal, Mrs.Rajagopal and Kamala were very fortunate to honor PS with the excellent ponnadai and poongkoththu. Later all the VIPs were presented with a gift and PS took care of it with a smile.
  = Then the muhoortham of the day. TKR clicked the mouse to launch the website www.psusheela.org. Ketti melam muzhagada kurai… avalavu applause :)
  = Kalai browsed through all the links like Home, Articles, Awards, etc. PS was very keen on the presentation of songs. Kalai spent good amount of time to explain how PS songs were categorized under each language. The audience simply forgot themselves to observe the great work done behind this. PS said later that she herself did not know that she had sung in 12 different languages :)
  = Quite a few times, the net connection played Nambiar role, but Kalai somehow managed to complete the presentation of the site details.
  = PS’s unique achievements and feathers in her cap were also shared. For example, She was the first to receive the Best female playback singer at the national level, She was the ONLY singer in 3 films (Karpagam, Gomaadha en kulamaadha, Anandha thandavam) & many others.
  = Few of the best songs from Malayalam and Kannada were played. It was pin-drop-silence when we all listened to that. A great moment in our lives :)
  = Adhepalli said that the inauguration of the site is a birthday gift to PS. As part of the process, PS cut the cake given by the hotel management. This time the fans were singing in chorus “happy birthday to you susheelamma” and Mrs.Rajagopal ootified a piece of cake to PS.

  = This is the masterpiece of the function. I mean PBS’s address. He started with expansion of ‘P’ in P.Susheela. It was Perfection :) Then many more joyful accolades from him
  ## Though, 13 is said to be an unlucky number, it was never so for PS
  ## When PS sings, there is no need for Thambura at all
  ## He sang an On-the-spot paatu in praise of PS (Starting with Kaaviya paadagi Susheeeeela, in the same tune of Kaalangalil aval vasantham; some more lines are nithya vasantham susheela, nenjin punnagai susheela, kavagalil sandham susheela, uvamai illa mangai susheela…). A great piece
  ## PBS wondered how they sang together the song “naalaam naalaam thirunaalaam”, under the music direction of MSV-TKR. Also he sang the ever-great “sonnadhu nee dhaanaa”
  ## Some funda on Music. With the letter M, it would become U Sic :)
  ## He shared that SJ said to him once that whenever she listens to PS songs, she felt like kissing PS immediately :)
  ## PS joined his address, with her congratulations on PBS getting the post “Thalaivar of Tamizh Iyal Isai Nadaga Mandram”. She praised TN CM Jayalalitha that she always encourages and honors the legendary artists.
  ## PBS said that PS does not need any post, but she deserves nothing less than Bharata Ratna :)
  ## Both PBS and PS recalled JJ’s Vennira aadai song “Enna enna vaarthaigalo”. PS sang that start line so effortlessly
  ## On repeated requests from audience, PBS sang a few lines of Roja malare raja kumaari. PS stopped with only the leading humming
  ## It was wonderful to hear PS singing ‘nilave ennidam nerungadhe’, a classic number of PBS.
  ## PS recalled that PBS wanted to teach her ‘urdu’ somehow, but she was not responsive at all. She called herself as “somberi” which created huge laughter among the audience :)
  ## In between, PBS rendered a few lines of a Hindi number sung by PS (MD: PBS). I am not able to recollect that lead lines :)
  ## PBS was in all praise for science and technology like Internet, which can support/help the artists to a great extent.
  ## It was a wonderful address by PBS, though bit longer :). PS said jocularly that it was like Visu’s arattai arangam and she enjoyed that very well. We, the fans, too :)
  
  = The next item was recital of an Ilakkiya Urai with a poetry written by Kaaviri Maindan from Kaviarasu Kannadasan Sangam. It starts with “sugamaana kural endraal susheela-vin kural”. Really nice. I request Kalai and team to publish this as part of the site.
  = TKR, in his address, praised PS a lot on polite attitude. He said “avanga recording-kku varadhu theriyaadhu, kathukaradhu theriyaadhu, paadi mudichu kelambaradhu theriyaadhu”. He extended saying “avanga adakkam thaan avangalai indha level-kku kondu vandadhu”.
  = Final Vote of thanks by myself. Edho olari kotti nandri urai. Though I made several presentations in front of our customers, I found it too difficult to speak in Tamizh in front this enthusiastic crowd :)
  = As part of VOT, a wonderful innovative work of Mrs. Adhepalli Rajagopal and her sister was presented. It was a white metal sheet on which a Tree was sculptured with branches and sub-branches. 52 leaves, each written with a different raga, were pasted to the tree branches. This number 52 was to denote the completion of 52 years service of PS in the music world. It was a marvelous work by the team. Simply great :) Enakkum thanks undu illaya?

  How to miss the autograph session? People were around PS to get her signature printed on their books, autograph pads etc. Kalai requested PS to sign specially for her devoted fan SreeVidya. My pad was used for that and PS wrote “Best wishes to SreeVidya”, with her signature printed below.
  
  Vidya: Kalai will dispatch it to you soon. How you feel mam? Gudhikkireengala? I too got PS’ autograph (3rd time in my life) :)
  
  Other points that I would like to mention
  
  = NDTV (Rajarajeswari) interviewed PBS, TKR, Adhepalli Rajagopal and PS. Out of which TKR’s did not feature in the news bulletin of Vijaya TV at 6.30pm.
  = As part of PS interview, she said she was not for celebration of her birthday like this. But she had to honor the interest and request of her fans. She expressed her gratitude and acknowledgement to MSV, TKR, PBS and all her fans; also to CM JJ for her recognizing veteran artists like TMS and PBS.
  = When RR asked “how she feels about this website”, PS replied that “everyone say creation of website is simple; but I know honestly the effort spent by my fans. It is very difficult to come to this stage”, thus appreciating the enthusiasm and hard-work of her fans.
  = She sincerely thanked Adhepalli and narrated how the idea on this function was conceived when she met with him at the airport
  = She very promptly mentioned the names of Thenraja and Andal Balu for their kind support behind the website creation.
  = Of course, she was very pleased to mention the names of her fans like Kalai, Rajesh etc. She called me and asked again my name… it is too bad… she is so forgetful (Just kidding) :)
  = Ended her interview with Nadri to Vijay TV (NDTV seidhigal)
  
  There was a special lunch arranged for all the fans, friends and their family. It was so delicious extended with carrot halwa, cake and ice creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem :) During lunch too, many interesting events, tidbits were exchanged with PS. Andal took care of PS’ lunch plate filling with only very minimum items of very little quantity. PS said Andal is so kind enough to her always. I repeat the words in Tamil. “Andal enakku saadam pisainju kooda kuppanga; ooti kooda viduvaanga; avalavu piriyam en mela”. Is this not something wonderful relationship between an artist and her fan? Kamala told PS that “enakku idhu oru kanavu pola irukku… ungaloda ukkaandhu pesaradhu”. She was so moved. Correctaa Kamala?
  
  Nenjam ellam negizha, PS was given warm send-off. Rajesh and Kalai took care of dropping them at her house.
  
  It was a moment of truth that I was present in the function. I was also given opportunities to extend my arm as part of it. Still it is in memory… will be for ever.
  
  Thanks to everyone who have made achieve this milestone in the music era.
