and hey.... is there any other instance of the same song getting National Award twice?...
S Janaki got national award for the best female singer for "Inji Iduppazhaga" from "Thevar Magan" (ofcourse, IR the MD)... whereas, Chitra got the best female singer a few years back for "Paayale chunmun chunmun" from "Virasat". "Viraasat" is nothing but remake of "Thevar Magan" complete with the "Inji Iduppazhaga" song used for "Paayale.." number (by Deva's competitor "Copier-Than-Thou" Anu Malik)...
how come this happened? Any suggestions/ ideas ? has it happened b4?

Can anyone list some lengthy scenes in which there are no dialogues but only BGM used ? oh no pls... am not talkin 'bout silent movies.
eg : the climax beat of "Uthiri Pookkal" in which no one speaks a word but the beat starts normally and goes fast-paced... no single dialogue spoken but created helluva impact...
same with climax of "Mullum Malarum"

Vj,
this shud be in a different thread....Now that u've asked for it,
The hospital scene in idhayathai thirudAdhEy...Nag is being taken in a stretcher, operation happens, titles go on etc etc...and at the end of that amazing piece, he asks aruna (the doc)..."ennai kalyANam paNNikireengaLA ?"
Similarly, the last 15 minutes of kAdhalukku mariyAdhai.

hihi:-),
My pleasure! It was not very popular but is the most preferred one from the album.
Vijay,
(u don’t have to use NOM and IMHO with me. I can understand:)) I get what ur saying. I agree the notes and meter are different and that is what makes for the difference (and not a copy). But notice the following carefully and u will probably see that it is an inspiration – the way the song picks up slowly and in a low pitch, the pallavi structure, "allAdipoyAnurA" (in Tel) towards the end of pallavi has notes moving from low to high pitch while the notes for "vA vA meedum meendum thAlAtta" (in Tamil) move from high to low, the (structure of) beginning of 1st charanam in Tel (by female voice, SJ, followed by same notes for SPB, and vice-cersa in 2nd charanam) and the 1st charanam in Tamil (by male voice, SPB, followed by slightly high pitch notes for VJ, and vice-versa in 2nd) and, ending of charanam "rammana lEka yimmana lEka..." (in Tel) is a little straight while the Tamil ver. "vA ini thAngAdhu thAngAdhu..." moves from high to low.
Being a non-techie I have my limitations in explaining with the right terms but hope u can understand the above:) One can probably say that the song structure has been taken and the notes, meter and pitch have been nicely changed to make for the difference. Somehow, I felt the similarities in these differences (:-)) the very first time I heard the Tamil ver. and feel it is a certain case of inspiration. Also, as hihi:-) said, don't u feel the difference to that of a typical ARRish song?

avr, 'mohabbath jhoomE...' is in 'Aan'. 'huE hum jinkE kE liyE barbAd' is in 'Deedar'.
ARR's 'suththi suththi vantheega' (the first line) is very very similar to KVM's 'tArA tArA vathArA'.
A case of double copy by Veda. Shankar-Jaikishen's 'sou sAl pehlE's pallavi gets copied twice as 'manam ennum mEdayin mElE' and 'silai seyya kaigaL uNdu'

- From: isaiosai (@ 166.44.185.144)
on: Sat Mar 23 12:41:14 EST 2002
vijay,
:-) yes...as i can feel the similarities in those differences...the deliberate reversal of certain things like low to high notes (in Tel) becoming high to low, longer charaNam started by female singer and the same notes repeated by the male (in Tel) changed to shorter charaNam started by male singer repeated in a slightly higher pitch by the female etc. While the reversal of such things (and factors like meter etc.) makes the difference, the "deliberate" attempt makes me feel sure of the source for inspiration. (might also help me sound a little unbiased:-))
i can understand that if one does a note comparison they would differ. no problems. let us disagree.

Karthik S,
The one i saw doesnt feature in the agencyfaqs website.
Last Time, I saw this commercial was yesterday in MotorsTV.. A Guy is driving the Scenic through a farm or something.. and comes to a stop.. to his right, behing a white fence are two cows(!), singing: Chitra starts 'Ennavo Ennavo Solla Ninaithen, Ennaiye Ennaiye All Thelithen'.. SPB joins in 'Thendrale Thendrale Unnai Azhaithen' and fades away.. then one of the cows blow bubble out of a gum.. and the camera zooms out..to Renault Logo..
I still dont get the point of the whole thing..

Was watching the Satyaraj-Shivaji Ganesan starrer 'Pudhiya Vaanam' on K TV last Sunday. A predominant piece of bgm that played quite often during the movie was amazingly similar to the Titanic song by Celine Dion. And as far as I remember Pudhiya Vaanam came long long back, much before Titanic!! Who composed the music for this movie? It sounded very much like Manoj Gyan or Gyan Verma types!
Just Curious:
Tried to get a copy of the advt. online - in vain!

HJ's Minnale BGM with the words 'maddy maddy' seems to have been lifted from Joan Jett's 'I love rock and roll'. But the version of maddy I got from the net (the same as the one added in the audio later) is not the one played in the bgm often in the movie. The bgm was a much more direct lift of the Joan Jett number.

Bharani has given an interview in this week's Vikatan online that the music has been inspired from an English song.

Can somebody help me with the release year of 'Adhe kangal' starring Ravichandran and music by Veda?
I've 2 lifted songs in Adhe Kangal which I'd be posting tomorrow, just wanted to cross check the release dates vis a vis the originals - despite it being so damn apparent - what with Veda's exalted status and track record!

One of Tamil composer Veda's most popular films, 'Adhe Kangal' (which if I'm not mistaken was the remake of 'Teesri Manzil' or the other way around - not sure, can somebody confirm?) had 2 prominent lifted songs. I had earlier posted a few Hindi versions of the 1964 Walt Disney classic 'Chim chim cher-ee' from the movie Mary Poppins. A Tamil version can be found in Adhe Kangal too (the song 'boom boom boom maattukkaran'), but a fairly good improvisation at that. Another lift from this movie was the song 'Oh oh ethanai azhagu' which was a direct lift from the Venturers hit, 'Pedal Pushers'.
Listen to both the numbers and their originals in my page at

No Karthik.
I have seen both the films. Teesri Manzil is still fresh in my memories for its RDB songs and gripping suspense.
AK is not a remake of TM.

Oh ok Common Friend. I remember a small piece from one of Adhe Kangal songs was used as the title music of a program in Ilangai Vaanoli, I think it was called Tamizhosai, forgot. Used to listen to it everyday when I was in Coimbatore. I tried real hard to find the source fo that music but couldnt for a long time. When I saw adhe kangal recently it struck me!!
For some vague reason I've been thinking that adhe kangal and teesri manzil are the same! Thanks for clearing the mess.

Karthik S:
No problem.
Actually, TM is more thrilling than AK. I some how feel that the climax of AK could have been more eventful. I saw it only some two three years back. By that time I some how heard from many people that it is one of the suspenseful and thrilling movie. That must have erased all the surprises that would have come to me had I seen it with out any bodies comment. So, again, its very subjective...
Sorry for the degression
