Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

The CD says ALR/PS/LRE, but I don't discern LRE in the song at all- is she part of the chorus?
btw, that 'yeeeeiii aaah' you're referring to sounds like 'A-----F'to me ( short for April Fool?)
Lyrics by Kothamangalam Subbu.
Kothamangalam Subbu, besides being a brilliant actor and prolific writer, was also a great lyricist. All the songs of Vanjikkottai Vaaliban were written by him. Sadly, in later years he was relegated to only comedy songs- the parody songs in Kalathoor Kannamma & Annai, and 'Gubugubu naan engine' (Motor Sundarampillai), for instance.
He wrote another hilarious song in Panithirai- 'Maamiyaalukku oru seithi, idhai madhichu nadantha maruvaadhi' ( Seergazhi Govindarajan & T.V. Rathinam)
Mukta Films' Panithirai- 1961 was the first venture from the Mukta House (produced by Mukta Ramasami & directed by Mukta Srinivasan). It starred Gemini Ganesh, Sarojadevi, Thangavelu & others.
The other songs in the film were written by Kannadasan: 'Yetho manithan pirandhu vittaan'- PBS, 'Orey kelvi orey kelvi endhan nenjiley'- PBS & PS, 'Varuga varugavendru solli azhaippar'- PS, 'Irukkum idam engey sol Iraiva'-PS & 'Kungumathai azhikkava, koonthal valam kalaikkava'-PS.
yaaro- I use 'audiograbber' ( thanks to sk!)

Hi BB
Many, many thanks for featuring an old request - "MaNappARai maadu katti". I've been a sporadic visitor to the forum, hence this delay in acknowledgement. I was absolutely delighted to chance upon this as a SOTD while scrolling though old responses.
Thanks again bb, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
best

You have brought the memories of one of the finest and well contested Ashes in 80s.Bob Willis did the one man demoliton job after the brilliant act by Botham/Dilley duo.Dropped from captaincy and with JM takin over as Skipper Botham was almost written off after a pair in the II test.We were cheering for Alderman that series.
It was a twin shock for me that month as Australia lost the series to Botham and Borg lost too!

Song of the Day: maargazhip paniyil from muththaana muththallavO.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/maargazhip.rm
- Another gem from SPB and MSV for the weekend. Previous SPB/MSV songs in SOTD are put together in this collection: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/catlist.php?catid=9
- One cannot but fall in love with SPB's rendition of this song. His laid-back manner makes it seem so effortless. Even before the pallavi ends, SPB has given a few enchanting variations of "maargazhip paniyil, mayangiya iravil, oorvasi vandhaaL, enaith thEdi". SPB continues to add surprises in the pallavi, like after the first charanam, where he adds a little bit of yodeling. The second charanam is my favorite, especially the way it starts "maan oru kaNNil". To crown it all, the way he whispers "isaip paadi" at the end of the song catches me breathless every time.
- More on the movie here: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/373.html . "enakkoru kaadhali irukkinRaaL" from the same film was featured as SOTD earlier.
- This is one of the few songs sung by Jai Ganesh on the screen. More on Jai Ganesh here: http://newtfmpage.com/forum/10599.12.23.43.html

What a song! Thanks, bb.
As you say, SPB's langurous drawl is something very appealing--listen to the line 'thamarai poigai poloru vaigai paaindhu vara'--
I am caught by surprise each time when he unexpectedly breaks into 'kaarkuzhal kadalil' (after the charanam ending with 'rajayogamum serndhu vandhadho'), where you normally expect the beginning of the pallavi 'maargazhi paniyil'.
SL had given a superb analysis of this song in some thread- can't remember which one :(
Jaiganesh (sporting a French beard) sings the song, and this is shown on TV --in the movie, Sujatha and Manorama watch the song on TV- Perhaps the beginning years of TV(as usual when a TV screen was shown in movies those days, the images would keep jumping with blurred lines!)

Thamizhan, http://forumhub.com/tlit/23260.08.41.18.html is the thread where a few of us post Kambaramayam verses each day.
http://www.dhool.com/balaji/kambar/ is the master page that I maintain.
SK, I've sent you a mail.

maargazhi paniyil deserves to be digitally remastered as I was suggesting to a musician friend of mine recently. How fresh and exciting it is to hear it even today! There's nothing preconcieved about this sandham. It sounds so spontaneous. MSV and SPB have captured lightning in a bottle with this song. Throw this in the timecapsule lest the future judges TFM to be a long parade of predictable pallavi, charanam1 and charanam2 renderings.
