Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Song of the Day: maargazhi paarvai paarkkavaa from uyirE unakkaaga.

- Saravanan writes:
‘mArgazhi pArvai pArkkavA’ from uyirE unakkaga. Sung by SPB and S.Janaki. Lyrics by Vairamuthu. Music by Ilayaraja.
And before anyone starts wondering if IR composed one song in a film that had music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, let me hasten to clarify that this film is not the Mohan-Nadiya starrer of the same name (1986/ Motherland Pictures).
Sri Manickam Films’ Uyire Unakkaga is destined to lie hidden in the cans forever. It starred Prabhu & Sulakshana. It was produced by Kallakkudi Manickam and directed by S. Kumar.

It was in Mid-1983 that we came back to India after 3 longs years of living abroad, and I was grateful to be back where I had easy access to tfm! Within one month of joining my 8th std in Chennai, all schools were shut down for an extended period to express solidarity with the Srilankan Tamils. Having nothing else to do, and no friends yet to pass the time of the day with, I fell back upon my old ally- Radio Ceylon. My day started with Pongum Poompunal and ended with Kanavulagam. I can never forget the songs that were aired regularly during that unexpected vacation, and along with songs like ‘Thennankeetrum thendral kaatrum’, ‘Ninaivile manaivi endru’, ‘Yaaradhu sollamal nenjalli ponadhu’, ‘Pothi vecha malligai mottu’, ‘Siricha kolli malakkuyilu’, ‘O vennilave vaa odivaa’, ‘Thendral ennai muththamittadhu’; ‘Maargazhi paarvai’ found place unfailingly in Pongum Poombunal.
The other enchanting SPB-SJ duet from this film, ‘Poo enbadhaa pon enbadhaa poo maalai neeye Radha’ (lyrics again by Vairamuthu) was another favourite among Radio Ceylon listeners. Besides these, Uyire Unakkaga had two more songs: ‘Annakkili ammanukku aadiyile maavilakku’ (MV & SPS/ Vaali) and ‘Thannikkule thannikkule ena irukku’ (GA, Saibaba & Sundararajan/ GA).
* * * *
Vairamuthu, in his, ‘en jannalin vazhiyE’, wistfully calls such stillborn songs of his as ‘ urangi kidakkum mottukkaL’. IR too often put his heart and soul into songs whose films were never released later--‘Maargazhi paarvai paarkkva’ is right up there with ‘Kodi inbam maeni engum paaiyndhadhammamma’ (Nenjilaadum Poo Ondru/ SPB & SJ), ‘Aananda thaen kaatru’ (Manippoor Maamiyaar/ MV & SPS), ‘Maalai sevvanam’ (Ilayarajavin Rasigai/ IR & Swarna), ‘Magizhampoove unnai paarthen’ (Pudhiya Adimaigal/ KJY & PS), ‘Alaigale Vaa’ (Kavithai Malar/ SPB & Uma Ramanan), ‘Maargazhi maadham mun pani velaiyile (Panchami/ SJ & TVG) and ‘Kanna vaa vaa’ (Malargal Nanaigindrana/ JC & SJ).
The dream ensemble of IR, VM, SPB & SJ collaborate here to put together an exquisite duet. SJ’s enticing humming is invitation enough, and SPB’s pallavi hints at lusty longings hiding behind the air of laid-back romance. SJ joins him well into the charanam - hark at her irresistible exclamation of pleasure at his ‘ullankaiyil thEn irukka’ --And just when you expect SPB to bring back the pallavi after SJ’s surging end to the charanam, like an unexpected cascade of summer showers, IR takes you on a mesmerizing musical odyssey--

Saravanan, bb,
Thanks a million for this gem.
Over the last few years I have been making umpteen requests at various IR threads for this song, but in vain.
You have made my day!

Hi,
Back ground music from Mouna Raagam is good. Why don't put in this website.

IR's standard beats which he has used to countless songs like
PoontahLir Aada
Kunguma chengamalam
Yaar thoorigai
But the tune is smooth with shades of Maand and Hamsadhwani.SPB's "Aha haaa"comes even close to "Mazhayum neeye"from Azhagan.
Saravanan,i would have chosen "Kodi inbam"from Nenjil Aadum pooondru, a malayamarutham feast stupendously sung by SPB and SJ.
There were too many unreleased movies in late 70s and 80s as Sujatha puts it "Dhinam Pandyan expressil cinema kanavugaLodu 100 peravathu utharavathamaga varugirargaL".There were too many "Banian vyabarigaL"( another Sujatha usage) turned producers. The catalyst for all these was none other than 16 Vayathinile's success. The result was a plethora of unfinished movies. The worst sufferers were IR,GA,VK.
Ninaivile manaivi -was the MD Some one-off Srikumar?

bb,do us a favour-can u upload this song in mp3?I ahve been searching for this song for years.I remember the record cover(it had prabhu in a railway guard uniform). The movie was shelved and subsequently the title was bought by kovaithambi for his first film without IR.
I remember the hype with which the second UU came-for the first time they sold the cassettes at 10 rupees. The songs were a big hit,I must say. This song was a perennial favorite for me till I lost the cassete.I would think to myself that whenever I go to India next time I must try for this song-and here the song comes searching for me!

When IR was at peak,I used (probably all of you did) to tape every month atleast one 90 minute cassette full 0f new IR songs-and compare this to present day hype!atleast 75%of songs I liked at that time are now IR classics. This song is a powerful reminder of my teenage.
The fallout may be between IR and VM but the fans are the losers.

Hi all,
here's the mp3 of maargazhi paarvai:
http://in.f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/nat_saravanan/vwp2?.tok=bc9iFMTBVBZQCChx&.dir=/&.dnm=margazhi.mp3&.src=bc
Peter Pan, I remember us exchanging mails over this song (a year back?). I had all songs from this film on tape. Last time when I went to India, I brought back some of my CDs that I had left behind, and I found this song again in one of them :)
yaaro, 'maargazhi paarvai- Uyire Unakkaga- SPB & SJ' would be on my list each time I discovered a new recording center, but when after days of delicious anticipation, I brought back the tape home, I would be dismayed to to find that the @#$%&*^! person had taped 'I want to be a rich man' or 'Kavithaigal viriyum vizhiyile' :((
Finally I found a Srilankan friend who had the record with him ( yes, Prabhu in a white uniform--I thought it was a Naval Officer uniform!), and taped all the songs from him.
OISG--fret not, 'Kodi inbam meniyengum', and 'Ninaivile manaivi endru'( yes, by Srikumar) will also make it to SOTD soon ;)

There is a MBS Chorus song "Jaya perigai kottada" for DD.
or even "Vetriyai naaLai sarithiram sollum" from Ulagam sutrum Valiban might suit the mood of this moment.
