S. J. SURYAH'S HOLD over the Tamil box-office is simply amazing. Four years after the release of "Kushi", a blockbuster, the director has turned hero with "New". The film has taken a fantastic opening all over Tamil Nadu to the surprise of the trade, as two months back, its bilingual in Telugu ("Naani") went without a trace. This in fact created distribution problems for "New", and later, the regional censor board also effected major visual and dialogue cuts. But Surya was optimistic and went ahead to release the film in 117 screens in Tamil Nadu where the opening day collection crossed Rs. 1 crore! Said Surya: "`New' is turning out to be a mega hit and the very same industry pundits who had written off the film before its release are saying that it will do better business than `Ghillli'."

  I watched the movie second day.. came back saying it was entertaining, but doubt it'll run at all... The movie surprised us by garnering 100% collections every single day since its release.
  
  There's nothin great about the movie. And nowhere here did ppl say it was "great". There were a few going around saying all the bad things in the movie were because of Rahman, right from the dialogues to picturisation to story!! Adha thappu-nu sollravangala pathetic-nu sollrenga... kaligaalam da!
  The best thing about the movie was Rahman.

  "Vj. big was in english and new is in tamil and that is the only difference.......i agree to the fact that BIG was a gr8 movie but dunt put NEW down....i dunt know but i hate this attitude of indians who watch english movies and appreciate them but crticise the same when it is amde in tamil and hindi.......ppl. who watched AMERICAN PIE and enjoyed it also criticised BOYS....come on wat is the logic man..........   Pl. go back and see my earlier mail where I have really praised ARR for his music which is a plus point for this movie's success and its theme of double meaning.
  But, that shouldn't make this movie a 'great'. That's all I am saying.
  After all, a MD only plays a second fiddle to the director and sometimes, it so happens that he carries the film to be a hit just as Rahul and Yuvraj almost did for India today!

  After the stupendous success of New, Suryah is about to launch his new film titled, BF, short form for Boyfriend!
  Apart from playing the lead role, Suryah will be producing and directing BF. Said Suryah: “It is a short and sweet romantic story. I am still working on the script.”
  
  The director who believes that good story and presentation are the most important aspects for the success of a film has not decided on the star cast of this film. A.R.Rahman will be providing music for BF.

  A couple of months ago ARR didn't have any tamil films and he himself admitted it during his SUNTV interview. But his fans wanted to hide it and kept yelling, claiming HE IS TOO BUSY WITH INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS and that's why he didn't have any. Then Jakkubhai happened and ARR was MD. Now, BF.
