S. J. SURYAH'S HOLD over the Tamil box-office is simply amazing. Four years after the release of "Kushi", a blockbuster, the director has turned hero with "New". The film has taken a fantastic opening all over Tamil Nadu to the surprise of the trade, as two months back, its bilingual in Telugu ("Naani") went without a trace. This in fact created distribution problems for "New", and later, the regional censor board also effected major visual and dialogue cuts. But Surya was optimistic and went ahead to release the film in 117 screens in Tamil Nadu where the opening day collection crossed Rs. 1 crore! Said Surya: "`New' is turning out to be a mega hit and the very same industry pundits who had written off the film before its release are saying that it will do better business than `Ghillli'."

  Songs in Thulluvatho Illamai and Kadhal Konden songs were decent with no sexual tones and lyrics. But New went overboard with 3 nasty numbers Margandeya, Utharavindree, Spiderman. ARR got desperate since he hasn't give a hit for a long time so he chose a storyline which is blue. Unfortunately for him, the movie is a hit because of SJS and flesh of Simran and Kiran. When you talk the talk you should walk the walk.

  That's exactly what I meant! The songs were made 'hearable' by ARR to carry on the 'blue' theme of NEW! Listen to those all double meaning songs pepping up the 'dm' dialogs!

  btw unga logic padiye vantha kooda NEW and Boys padam epadi irunthalaum pada thula vara paatai mattum hear pannina you can never think it is a double meaningd nor it will contain explicit scenes..thatz the greatness of a rahman music in my view.... on the other hand........when u hear "eppadi epadi ........ epadi ?" (indhu) or a "nethu raathiri yammma..." (sagalakala vallavan) u wil never think that a classical bharathanatyam scene or a bhagavathar style romance will be shooted in the film.......... most of the rahman songs were pretty decent (ther might be exceptions though... which i dont know)
  
  and another argument...that Ilaiyaraja scored for Kadavul , a very strongly atheist movie means he rejects GOD... nobody needs proof for IRs devotion to music or GOD.........same way holding musicians responsible for the movie contents is pathetic and sick......and crybaby kinda thing...

  ARR is the one who commented about lyrics used by other MDs targeting IR. He has comedown to a level to give music to crappy lyrics. This shows he desparately needs a hit.

  i ONLY SAID THAT ARR HAS THIS KNACK OF SUBMERGING THE LYRICS IN HIS 'DHADAALAADI' MUSIC AND HE DIDN'T DO IT WISELY IN 'new' CONTRIBUTING TO ITS SUCCESS PARTIALLY. I STAND BY IT.

  "New" is an out-an-out copy of the Tom Hanks- starrer "Big" of mid-eighties.. Even though the movie was funny, there were many 'innoncent' double-meaning dialogues.. They made a mockery of scientists with the roles of Manivannan and Karunas.. I cant believe it is the same surya who gave Vaali and Khushi, who were refreshingly different..
  coming to its music, it sucked real time.,. i donno why "Thottaal poo malarum" had to be re-mixed.. Nothing novel in the music of any other song also..

  btw, surya has just taken the theme out of the movie 'Big'... this 'New' cannot be compared to 'Big' as 'Big' is such a sensible wonderful movie, while 'New' ... i have no comments really..!!!

  Vj. big was in english and new is in tamil and that is the only difference.......i agree to the fact that BIG was a gr8 movie but dunt put NEW down....i dunt know but i hate this attitude of indians who watch english movies and appreciate them but crticise the same when it is amde in tamil and hindi.......ppl. who watched AMERICAN PIE and enjoyed it also criticised BOYS....come on wat is the logic man..........
  
  well, ARR has a hit in Tamil atlast after a really long gap.....the statistics are amazing(if ur an ARR fan)

  dear friends...even before the release SJS already declared that NEW is inspired from BIG..what else can he do....give Tom Hanks a guest role to prove it?...

  There is a difference between BOYS and NEW. BOYS was projected as if that is how every youngster is in Tamilnadu. Look at lyrics for BOYS songs.
  Nowhere it is vulgar.
  
  And NEW was always projected as a matter movie only. SJS didnt say that he is taking a social movie. Even parthiban did the same with Ulle Veliye.
  
  difference is that dont project u r taking a social movie and put lots of matter in it like shankar. Be bold and gutsy like SJS and Parthiban who tell outright that their movie is of such type.

  New Padathilae SJS Simranai parthu Ungallukku periya Manasunnu Solluvaaru Appo Simran shockingly adjusts her saree. Another scene the kid will be sitting in Simran's lap and they focus kids eye on Simran's boobs. SJS touted New as the movie for kids and family. Some people here talk as if their dad born with tie and mom born with a skirt.

  i am very happy. indeed a.r.rahman and his old magic style has come back after mudhalvan. wonderful music, picturuzation and dances. especially utthervintri and amazing melody mother song. really superb.

  If Kaakha Kaakha would have been scored by ARR S.K would have said,
  
  ARR had stooped to vulgarity to give a hit.... I got an information that the villain's dialogues in the movie were written by ARR himself and in certain scenes it was ARR himself who acted as the villain and his long hairs at that time helped gautam
  
  If Pithamagan would have been scored by ARR, S.K would have said
