All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

sify.com gives a good review for virumaandi.
im glad that the songs were cut off cuz i hate watching most songs while watching the movie.i usually watch them separately becuz they lack importance in many films and im glad kamal is aware of this.

Does anyone know why the movie has not been released in the bay area? Has it been released anywhere else in the US?

The film will not be released in bayarea or USA.
Kamal was totally misguided by Actress.Kowthami.
She told him that 7000 people will watch in bayarea alone and they will pay $20 per ticket . hince he asked BIG BIG amount from distributors here.
I think people who know more can write on this

Cho,
Velavan Cinema. It is now inside the Wood Side Square mall at Finch & McCowan in Scarborough.
The Sify review is pretty good. I agree with a lot of what is said there, but not all of it.

But by many reviews here, i find it difficult to believe you, coz, all the songs were used almost like BGM's.
This means ppl are walking out of theatres.. that cant surely happen to have a movie's screenplay blended with the Songs (which is the BGM)

I saw the movie.
Nothing to blame IR.
It is only Kamal who spoiled the sensational expectations with his Alavandan kind of tech only approach with our understanding that IR touches the Soul but it needs a good medium.
Poor KAMAL.

I am not sure where some people saw this movie. Guys, dont go by the word here. Wait for a day or two to get reviews from India. Review so far [after talking to friends and industry people in India] is extremely good, a feast for Kamal fans and a new dimension in Tamil movie. Well this is what we expect from Kamal and hope he delivered the same.
IP Address: 67.126.48.145 - If you dont like Kamal, thats fine. But dont post review for movies you have not seen. There is no tech approach involved in this movie. Dont waste other's time.
Virumandi is not yet released in Theatre in USA. Raaj Kamal is going to release the same in selected cities with in few days. I hope Raaj Kamal controls the duplicate/pirated VHS/VCD/DVD in USA so they can make money out of it.
I appreciate that SIFY gave a good verdict - A Class Act - Which is what people like Kamal should do. If you want regular Masala movie, go and watch Kovil [remake of Alaigal Oivathillai!] or Pudhuk.. Saravanan.

Hi fellow movie lovers,
I agree with a few of the genuine reviewers here about the movie. It starts off in documentary fashion and upto the first half, the story is told by two different people (both saying the story as they saw it and with their own personal agendas.. I felt this part.. 'personal agendas' part was brought out well, but maybe diffucult to understand for some).. initially the story moves in bits and pieces.. and then the gap is filled in when the second narration takes over.. which again I felt was how one would feel when hearing only one side of story.. hollywood style maybe.. but very nicely adapted for the indian screen... wont say more about it.. see it urself to get more details :)
About BGM.. again hollywood influence of not using instrumental BGM (ie in most movie.. unlike
movies like gladiator and titanic etc which have
lots of silent portions filled by BGM) but rather using songs to enhance the mood was used..
As an IR fan, I felt disappointed not hearing
much gems.. but as a movie watcher.. I did not
feel anything missing and there were a few scenes where instrumental BGM was nicely used (like some scenes with the villain in the second
half)...
Song picturisation.. kombule/maada vilakei(kamal version)/unna vida/viru viru mandi r the only
songs picturized...
Kombule runs only for the first para.. I was
hoping the second para would come in.. but was
disappointed it dint :(
Mada vileke was very effectively used..
Unna vida was beautifully picturized.. I was
really impressed.. especially the first half of
the song.. beautiful and simple.. I was heaving
a sign of relief at the picturization.. it was
not spoilt like the 'isayil thodanguthamma' of
hey ram...
Overall... kamal has progressed very well in
the style of movie making.. not gone overboard..
but still some percentage of voilence could have
been curtailed.. my dad hated the movie because
of it :(
But I loved it.. and am hoping to get another
glance of it soon...
:-)

i saw the movie in bangalore multiplex and to say in one word- very incoherent screenplay, confused climax(i.e. bollywood style of climax where all unimaginable things could happen) and a very bad screen play - as it neither tried to say anything on thooku ---kamal you wasted our 3 hrs of time

Why do reviewers belittle the audience's ability to understand attemps like Kamal's where multiple narratives of the same event are presented by different people, each telling their version of the story, and spicing it up with what they want the listener to believe?
Akira Kurosowa's Roshoman is a classic in that genre, and was understood universally by one and all. Attempts such as Virumandi should be welcomed, and not unnecessarily criticised.
Only when directors attempt such techniques will the audience also start demanding more from directors, and in turn the directors can get encouraged and hone their craft, to present it better in their next film! It's in a way of introducing our audience to new forms of filmmaking. Else, we will continue to endure the mediocre fare doled out in dozens year after year by Tamil movie makers, in the name of entertainment.

I hope..none of those who critisize Virumandi watched "The Bandits" a bruce willis movie...
coz that's the most complicated narration I have ever seen...they where narrating 4 different times in same movie...
i mean...while the flash back in in roll, there were also breaks for current, and then the flash back of teh current. and the flashback of the flashback..but it is really good though..
