DEar Friends,
Arularacan has a very valid point - nothing works like consumers' demands..

aruLaracan,
You have the statistics to prove your point.
Thanks.
Will write to these music companies on this issue.
I would love to have a CD collection of digitally remastered classics of IR. But very rarely do you get good compilations, as Vijay has pointed out. In Hindi, for instance, HMV has some good music lovers like Sanjeev Kohli compiling their albums, sometimes with interesting fact files. However the same can't be said of HMV's recent compilations in Tamil ('Aaha Vandurichi' and 'PoduvAga En Manasu' in the album IR Golden collection figure along with 'Putham Pudu Kaalai' and 'Poongathave'...)
What's perhaps the need of the hour is to aproach the Music companies through Ilayaraja's official site, with the offer to compile the albums, if they can come out with good quality, digitally remastered CDs.
May be the guys out there will wake up and give us something worth buying.
Neels
PS: And there should be a clause: Don't ever 'fade-out' any song in the albums. ;)

Guys,
As others pointed out when there is a demand you can expect the quality automatically. Then the question of quality will not arise. When the audio sales is compared among Hindi and Tamil film music--it is sad to say that there is more than 35% difference.

friends, in my opinion, raja's one of the most wonderful contributions to our music is arunmozhi and uma ramanan. these two
amazing singers have very rarely sung for other MDs. can any one list arunmozhi-uma ramanan duets?

here is an amazing news which i read long time back in some magazine which i remembered when I was listening to Then sidhudhe vaanam from Ponnukku thanga manasu. This movies music director was SP Venkatesh ,for whom IR was assistant at that time and it was he who composed this song with the full blessing of his guru-SPV.another song in this movie was a folk song-Thanjaavooruseemaiyile which was also composed by IR.This was recycled by IR as the title song for Enga ooru paattukkaran(enga ooru paattukkaran, ayya ellathileyum kettikkaran...)some one had pointed about the similarities of both the songs-no wonder, both were composed by IR.
If you listen to The`n sindhudhe vaanam, bearing in mind it is an IR number, you realise it IS a typical IR song with all the typical IR ish interludes. This ,will make it probably IR`s first song antedating Annakili.
Listen to this song and you will realise it isa a classical IR number!I wonder how no one has till date written in copying in TFM thread about the similarities between thre two nos in PTM and EOP

i am an adherent fan of ilayaraja but recently was shocked to hear the lyrics of his latest hit'kannukkul nilavu',the song sung by spb, arun mozhi and surendar which goes likes this-'sangeethathin sangathi sarigamapa "thambi"kku sollikudu,"thambi"suthi podicha athigamappa thum marro thum kudo.is the maestro into brickbitting with his contemporaries!!it looks as if it is being pointed to ar rehman.for a man of ilayarajas calibre,it comes as a huge dissappointment to hear the song.i have not watched the movie ,if it is not contextual to the character or situation in the movie, this is really a point of debate.
i am throughly dissappointed by my icon.
sharath.

Dear friends,
I'm so sorry for not giving any reply in this forum. Right now, I'm in India, and I'm unable to browse the internet frequently. I will try to fulfil yr. request as soon as possible to me. In my web page, most of the songs are not playing due to the server problems. After fixing the problems, I will inform you. Now, I just wanted to say "Hi" to everybody in this forum. That's all.
V.Shanakar,
Thanx a lot for yr. kind information about the song "Eariyile oru kashmir roja" I will make the correction as soon as possible.
Regards,

Sharath,
I think you are being too creative here, trying to attribute the lines to IR taking on ARR.
I don't think either of the MDs will ever think of resorting to such indirect attacks. They are too mature and level-headed to do that.
Neels
PS: I will appreciate it if you could use some punctuations in your posting. It's quite difficult to follow. Thanks

Hi,
I have a small question about the latest "Chota Chetan". Y'day's "Hindu" review says, "re-release the film in Hindi with some new scenes...". Question is, does it still have some part of Ilaiyaraja's music (like songs, BGM, etc).
The latest has Anu Malik scoring the music.
The link for the review is
http://www.the-hindu.com/2000/05/08/stories/09080222.htm
BTW, I am currently listening to "Chirakattikkili" song from that movie. Was this songs also present in the original movie, "MDK"? I have this doubt, as it has excellent recording quality (even in 1983).
I am curious to know.

Anu Malik in place of IR ? mmm..what quality can we expect in BGM ? In an interview appachchan is supposed to have praised IR to be the real hero of the film.

Guys!
This is not the latest news, as the film was re-released two years ago, with some awful new scenes added where some heavily hamming clowns, villains and an ill-at-ease Urmila trying their best to cfreate a new 'dimension'!. It was 'Yuck' to say the least.
As for the music, yes, the 'SONGS' were replaced by Annu Malik, and they were pathetic, of course.
The only saving grace was the BGM, 90% of which was retained from IR's original score (They didn't have a choice here, the Anu Maliks and the Anand Milinds do not know what BGM is all about.) Even in their own films, they get some TV MD to score the BGM!
I think we South Indians have a persecution complex.. we worry a lot, like in this case Navodaya wondered whether these 15 year songs will be received by the Hindi junta or not..
