An,
How many White ppl do you know who are not ARR fans? This is your question. It will be more appropriate to ask that question upside down. The question should be asked as "How many white ppl do u know who are ARR fans?". As far as i know.. there is NONE :). There are some ppl who realy loves music. They like all kinds of music including indian music. But you cant claim they all are ARR fans. Indian music means they like all the good songs regardless of md. But for that they wont spend money and buy one cd (ofcourse if u give them free as a gift they will be very happy to keep it and they will definitely tell they realy lov ur cd). They buy only english albums.. in some cases they buy spanish too(eg eric's dont turn off the lights spanish version - english version is a hit). They got no knowledge what so ever abt indian music. If you put and show them ilayaraja's music, still they will say its nice.. If u put arr music also they will say nice.. athukaka arr music na whites ku elam craz'nu urimai koruratha?? konchamavathu arivu venam? I am not telling i hate arr. Im only telling he cannot be successful in western countries and his recent albums are not good as it used to be.. definitly he is going downwards(im only talking abt his music and not abt his earnings). Boys'a than arr fans mala mari nambi irukanga(nanum boys nala irukum nu namburen). athuvum kavuthuta....no comments. Vidyasagar is doing good at the moment.. i saw ur post saying vd copying..yea true but everyone including arr is copying. so u cant blam vd. he is good.

Sorry guys,
lets go to the main topic....... copying. hmm i think every body is copying. what we have to look for is how much they use their creativity and how much they copy or inspired from others.
i think for originality u must rate IR as no 1.
deva the last... ARR, HJ, VD, YSR all are at the equal possition. but at this date HJ VD YSR giving better music than arr. the question is can ARR comeup with good music in boys and take his possition back in TFM???

ok guys lets go to original topic..copying in tfm.
An.. i saw ur post saying vidyasagar is copying. I think everybody is copying including arr. The thing is how much they copy and how much they use their own creativity.. for originality u the no 1 possition to IR. deva is the last one.. arr, vd, ysr, hj all at the equal possition. at this date vd is doing well and arr going downwards (im only talking abt arr's music and not talking abt his earnings), and ysr hj all are doing better than arr. all are expecting boys. the question is can he take his possition back in tfm with boys.

Dinesh - go to the below site:
http://www.mail-bag.com/copycat.shtml
You can see copied numbers with the ratings - i.e. is it a 10/10 copy or a 5/10 copy!
I didn't pick on Vidhyasagar, I just pointed out that he is not blameless in doing cut and paste jobs!
Deva does the same.
Ilayaraja Sir, I agree is the one with the least copies, no doubt. But I never said that he was a top copier, so please don't accuse me.
ARR, uses samples, which are widely available, however, I can't say he a a copy & paste person, as loops and voice samples are public domain and if you pay enough, you can buy them at specialised music stores.
Historically, in English music, it is very common to do this. Look at most R&B numbers, the bassline will be from an old number, wich a new twist put to it. Very little is 'original' music!

I was most most disappointed by - Mouna Ragam Ilaiyaraja Love Theme By Ilaiyaraja being a total copy of Theme Music By Flash Dance
:(
ARR did it for Baba and IR had done it so many yrs ago for Mouna Ragam! :(

Hello An,
Yea i went to that site. there is similarity i agree. but its not cut and paste. if u compare arr and ir, ir has done more than 750 movies. u can calculate how many songs. in that 750movies how many songs do u find copy?? arr havent even reach 100movies.. in almost every song u can find some sort of similarity somewhere. entha pata ketalum engayo keta mari irukum. but he doesnt take his tunes from just 1 place. a bit from here bit from there like that it goes on. In that site it shows only the english songs. arr is not copying only from english songs. he is taking tunes from every where...sangeetha keerthanaikal, thevarams, very old songs, old songs, from yani, spanish, etc etc. in that site i couldnt find jumbalaka jumbalaka.. it is pure cut and paste. one tamil old song egsample is "solayo solai kili from alli arjuna" is cut and paste from "kalelam manika kalakuma". if ir's percentage of copying or inspiration is 2%, arr's percentage should be more than 30%, vd, hj ysr kr all doing equally good job, deva 60%(should be more than that.

hello An,
yea i went to that site and heard those songs. mouna love theme sounds similer to tht song but its not cut and paste. ir has done more than 750movies. u can count how many songs..in those 750 movies how many songs do u think he has copied or inspired? arr hasnt even reached 100movies. and tht site only giving details abt copied english songs. arr is not copying only english songs. he is also taking copying from.. sangeetha geerthanaikal, thevarams, old songs, yani, spanish etc etc.. egsample jumbalaka jumbalaka is a total cut and paste song.. its not listed in tht site, old song example is "solayo solai kili from ali arjuna copied from kalelam manika kalaguma. almost in every arr song.. patu engayo keta mari irukum. he doesnt take the music from one place.. he copy a bit from here a bit from there.. so if u say ir is percentage of copying is 2%, arr will be 30%, vs, ysr, hj all copying equally 30%, deva 60% (should be more than that).

Hi Raj(@ 211.28.96.9): or is it 'fake' Dinesh? dinesh (@ 211.28.96.9) - Same IP!
What is "jumbalaka jumbalaka" a cut and paste of?
Also, for the comment " in that 750 movies how many songs do u find copy?? arr havent even reach 100 movies"
I didn't say that IR is a copier, just that I was hughely disappointed by the Mouna Ragam Theme tune, which I loved as a kid!
My comment is that nowadays there are only 12 notes in the scale. Any song that shares the same Raga/Scale of another will have a similar sound - I can't term that as a copy!
For the song "solayo solai kili from alli arjuna", it is only the first line that is similar (I say similar, as it is not the same) to "kalelam manika kalakuma", but I can't call that a cut and paste! The rest of the song doesn;t follow the same pattern, although both songs are in the Raga MAYAMALAVAGOWLA!
Again, I re-iterate the fact that in IR's day, non patented samples of music were not available for public consumption, but newadays, these are freely available! Hence ARR, HJ, U1, KR, VS e.t.c. have the right to use them. ARR was the first to 1. Introduce Loop based music to TFM - this stems from drum and bass loops as the basis of songs and 2. Get other MD's savvy on the technology behind music and the fact that there is free music for the world to experiment and share!
So, tell me, which Keerthanai's has ARR copied -not U have whet my appetite - I'm soooooo curious.

One more comment IMO, the music that was available to IR in those days was Western Classical - which he has heavily been inspired from, whereas the new musicians are inspired by the new music trends - R&B, Soul, Hop hip, Garage, Jungle e.t.c! ;)

Neither is Kannellam Manikkam a cut and paste! And it was never said that the Mouna Ragam piece was cut and paste, rather a copy of the actual flasdance tune - do U listen to the songs given in the links?
