I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Saravanan,
I really can't express my feelings in words after reading your write ups. I wish I had interacted with you in person during your Gill Adarsh days since we seem to have the common interest in VJ songs.
There was a short review about VJ's concert in Ramakrishna matam in mylapore, madras in the current anandavikatan issue. Its strange that a such a great artiste has been totally ignored by both tfm and by all the sabhas during the december season.

Thanks, all! When one is at the right place, with the right people, even things that one doesn't dare to dream of come to pass-

Ravi, I too watched the show. could see last 10 mins only... such a perfection in her rendering. Total involvement (rasichu paaduradhu) is grand and a colourful feather in VJ's cap.
BTW, did you guy watch Unni Krishnan's prog in Jaya TV the day before? damn good :-)

nothing that I can say, nothing that I can conjure with all my effort & time can match what VJ said to you. You deserve all of it and much more.
Thanks for your write-ups.

This is one of my cherished songs. Never an Eid goes by when I don't listen to it. When you hear this song in the dark, starlit night, the feeling can only be described as transcendence.
Thank you for bringing this sensation back at the end of the year. A fitting song for this season of lights as well!

Naaz, you are awesome :) I have liked this song since I was a kid!
I have been searching for this song for a long time and finally found it yesterday. But the recording was very poor and I could not understand a couple of lines. Great lyrics by Kannadasan, and of course VJ is great as always. Thanks again

Just a few typos and mishearings in the above:
Appa (Kartha) is Aththa.
Vanangudhadi has an extra dha. (got caught up in the repetition.)
And-
you're welcome!
(The song also deserves kudos for a superb composition by MSV. Once again, the chorus is absolutely integral to the song, and not some tacked on frill.)

Naaz, About the typo, doesn't the word appa make more sense than Aththa?
BTW, are you from the twin cities area? Your IP looks familiar.

Babu -
Aththa is used in varied forms (Adhdha, Abhbah) by coastal muslim communities in TN and Kerala - and is the same as the tamizh "Appa." Given the "muslim" ethos of the song, I am inclined to believe that KD was striving for that special "authenticity" in the lyrics. Hence, Aththa is the word, as pronounced by VJ, in the song.
(Interestingly enough, the same communities use "Ammi" (or the shortened "Mi") for "Amma" - but KD, being his astute self, eschewed that word for mother and stuck to the tamizh/muslim form, as Ammi in tamizh means something else altogether :-))
I've been to the twin cities. But my permanent home is on the west coast of Canada.

Thanks for the explanation Naaz, makes sense.
Actually KD's choice of words in this songs is unique, esp the words "Mudhal Iravenbar...", "Aandavan Meedhe Nambikkai Vaiththom Adutthadhu Pirakkumadi" and of course the complete second stanza :)

Naaz/ Chandran,
I think in 'Machaane acharam podu', the male voice is Krishnamoorthi, and not Kovai S.
Priya, Sriram - Thanks for your encouragement :)

Thanks Naaz,
I checked this (Machaanae acharam podu) with Kovai S himself sometime back. He was not sure. Ofcourse, He didn't remember some of his own songs.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the song Naaz/Neel D.
Wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Saravanan,
I listened to this song (Machanae Acharam Podu) now. The singer is neither Kovai S nor TMS. It is somebody else. As you said, it might be Krishnamoorthy. But, am not familiar with Krishnamoorthy's voice.
Thanks for the info.
