hi all,
Preludes and Interludes are pillars of any song..There are many songs which have great Preludes and Interdludes in TFM..
Hindi film songs when compared to tamil songs dont have good preludes and interludes..we have to be proud about that..
Can we discuss about such tamil songs which had exceptional preludes and interludes???

you said and he said, if you want say it again..
but why trying to make post out of it. MIAN CONTENT WAS FEW EDENS BEST SONGS, Did he say AnYtHing LIke Arr DoESnt Rule?. IR RULES WAS JUST HIS FEELING.
WHY IN THE NAME OF @%$*%#, YOU DONT TALK ABOUT THOSE SONGS OR OTHER SONGS??? WHY MAKE A POST JUST FOR THE TAIL, TO SHOW YOUR PERSONEL HATE? (hope its just personel). HE MIGHT SAY FEW MSV SONGS AND SAY MSV RULES TOO. SO WILL YOU COME BACK AND SAY, NO MSV MAKES ONLY SAMI MOVIES IN 90'S?
Why dont you try to realise your mistake than trying laME ExCuse?.

thalapathi - sundari kannAl. Amazing orchestration in the interludes. Could very well be used for a movie of biblical content like Ten Commandments. I understand that he was paid 80lakhs for this movie, the highest at that time. For bigger productions, the Maestro, uses a full orchestra giving you that awesome grand feeling (even notice how rAkkama sounds, classic, other MDs would have given it the usual dance number treatment). I suggest listening to the above song in a home theatre setup (for eg. 5 ch stereo or something like that). Many of the Maestro's songs need a high resolution system to enjoy, because of the number of instruments playing.

Here is the best example of what is wrong with this forum. A guy who has no idea about what an interlude is, insisting that his idol/icon is the best at scoring them...

HMMM....I will elaborate...The starting music of Kadhalikkum.....is one of the best preludes of ARR...Gradually
the beauty of the music enhances before CHARANAMS...and the music in between the start of GUNDU MALLI....is certainly ...worth mentioning in the thread....Please read my posting again...I said...that part of SARANAM....do not blame the Forum...Sometimes when one argues being precise gives different meaning.....A.A

AA, Could you, in all your infinite wisdom, point the word "saranam" in your post above for me?
PS: Have you heard of Rapidex?
PPS: Using all caps in postings is considered shouting, and hence indecent.

Heard `AgAya Gangai' (Dharmayutham) in Cbe Radio last morning...(might be the nth time hearing this song)...the prelude is great with SJ's humming followed by some IRish sounds, but something's not OK at the moment when MV starts, sort of being a little bit abrupt (is there a recording snag?)...however, Raja makes up for this in the 2nd interlude where one can't make out when SJ's voice is replaced by the solo violin, a mesmerising transition!

IMHO Ottagathai kattiko from Gentleman cannot be said as an example for great prelude-interlude. to me its just a catchy tune, thats all. Rather i wud prefer songs like 'minnalae nee vanthatehnadi' from 'May maatham'.
if u ask for the technical reason, im sorry i cannot. its just my feeling thats all. i may be wrong.
hey! how 'bout 'aanandha raagam' from panneer pushpangal, 'puthham pudhu kaalai' from 'alaigal oivathillai'.

Pani vizhum malarvanam from Ninaivellam Nithya
Pon Malai pozhudhu from Nizhalgal
Potri padadi penne from Dever Magan
Roja poonthottam from Kannukkul Nilavu
Baratha Samudhayam(1 st interlude) & Kelada (2nd interlude) from Bharathy
Atleast 1000 to 1500 songs of Maestro will
have good prelude and interludes.

a.a.bhai! Since you have been harping about the kAdhalan song (even I liked the percussion portion of the song very much), it may be difficult for you to stomach the fact that the humming is heavily inspired from a 1986 grammy winner `don't worry, be happy' (or is it 1987?)...

Potri padadi penne, had a great interlude.
I dont think interludes has only MDs contribution. It has to mix will with the environment, some times even events.
'Padava unn padalai' has good wild violin interludes for mohan to die in a accident.
'poove sempoove..' for karthik's amnesia confusion
'vennilave vennilave..' from minsara kanavu.

I agree with you Kk THE prelude and Interludes in the song Kappal yeri Poyachu...takes the listener back to 1940S....This song's Interludes...effectivly communicates the event....especially the humming chorus....One of the best interludes of ARR...from film Indian...

Hi,
I think Roja Roja in Kadhalar Dhinam had very good interludes. The whole atmosphere of the song, the picturisation had a feel good effect, IMO

"Yaarathu Yaarathu" from Mr.Romeo had a great interlude. The beats were racy and exciting and pumped my adrenalin.
Another great interlude which had the similar effect on me is "mella mella ennai".Could anyone tell me the movie name?
The picturisation on Ravinder and S.Smitha gave the feeling of a second-rate song(at least).A good song surely.I think it is SNS and SJ if I'm right?

A good test for a good prelude is how well it is remembered and how easily it can remind you of the song. For eg. within a few seconds into the prelude you should be able to tell the song.

thOgai iLamayil adi varuthu - Payanangal mudivathillai prelude. The opening flute piece gives/reminds the image of a mayil 'than thOgaiyai silirpathu pOl'. The song has interesting mirudhangam playing (complimenting the tabla) and the trademark IR tabla playing with guitar and bass.
IMO, IR won the hearts of his mainly through his preludes and interludes.
