This 'so-called' film critic from REDIFF.COM says 'ABHAY' (Hindi Version of ALAVANDHAAN' is a crap movie. The link is given below...

How crucial was 'music' a crucial factor for a film like ALAVANDHAAN?

<<...I have done that before (screaming for blood), but still do not cross the line to name-calling and mud-slinging..>>> what a world this has become, thirsting for blood is OK (by some crazy AQUARIAN logic), but name calling/mud slinging is utterly NOT OK. WHYNOT, heard of a poem called "POISON TREE" ( It is better to have your stance made very clear, even if it means it will create open enemies, rather than putting up a diplomatic face with ulterior grudge)...Known devil/Unknown angel story - For Your Information, dearest & loveable hun.
<<...rather than think of it as my birthright to do so, unlike some goats..>> Your own personal opinion dearest & loveable, and given the fact that you consider this as "PERSONAL OPINIONS FORUM, WHATSOEVER" i don't think that merits a reply ;-)
<<..May I quote astrologycom.com on Capricornians..>> Ain't it good to see you refer volumes and volumes on astrology to just manage a reply, dearest & loveable Ynot.
<<...you seem to consider this as "PERSONAL OPINIONS FORUM...But alas, it is, isn't it?..>> For your kindest consideration, there is a world of difefrence when you mention DISCUSSION FORUM and PERSONAL OPINIONS FORUM...Think about it :-)
<<...Nice to see the capricornian almighty lose his bearings now and then..>> Hey my dear friend,i have been interacting with you for quite some time now, and as you said, might be these interactions have led to some irrepairable "rubbing off" of traits on me too.
;-)
<<..dearest & loveable neutral fan, be very sure. ;-)..>> Pray be a bit clear dearest & loveable WHYNOT, are you being affirmative or negative here ;-)
<<...i'm waiting for the day admin pulls down the thread, or neutral fan runs away in defeat... :-)..>> There is a third option Ynot. But i would not want that to happen :-)

<<...kamal looks undeniably pretentious...>> and i thought KAMAL was being paid only to be excellent in pretentions, (i mean acting). What do you expect, get an actual real-life PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC to act as NANDHU?
Can u list down what u found to be wrong in the movie?

>>thirsting for blood<<
Oh c'mon neutral fan, don't be so cute, ok. We both know that your thirsting for blood was an analogy.
>>Ain't it good to see you refer volumes and volumes on astrology to just manage a reply<<
What can I say, I'm learning from u ;-)
>>are you being affirmative or negative here<<
Wat do u think, neutral fan?
>>was being paid only to be excellent in pretentions, (i mean acting)<<
Oh there u go again...u can act realistically or u can act like u are trying very hard, but not quite get it right. And i wasn't talking about Nandhu, which I thought was well done, but the Vijay version.
>>Can u list down what u found to be wrong in the movie<<
I have, some time ago. U jus have to go back several pages and have a look cos, I've already repeated the post twice in 2 different threads.
>>There is a third option Ynot. But i would not want that to happen :-)<<
I'm sure u wudn't! ;-)
And jus to add neutral fan, I'm WhyNot, not Ynot, ok? I like people to get my name right.
And a finally,
>>What do you expect, get an actual real-life PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC to act as NANDHU<<
Yes, I wanted them to, but dhanu told me neutral fan was too busy to attend shooting. ;-) LIGHTER VEIN, my friend.
btw, wud u have any idea wat ur ascendancy/rising and moon signs might be? (jus being a nosy aquarian) :-)

i agree that "sigappu rojaakkal" is better than "aalavandhaan." but that doesn't mean that "aalavandhaan" is a bad movie -- it has its points, plus it also explains its sources. yes, nice catch on the "superman" reference, but there's others.
nandhu grew up watching cartoons (did you note that in the flashback there was the blue superhero on the wall)? that is why when he hallucinates, he hallucinates batman-style.
"aalavandhaan" is not a perfect movie (by GOD what a lousy action-packed brainless masala idiot rasigarkkaaga ending), but the character of "nandhu" is a great villain (until that lousy action-packed brainless masala idiot rasigarkkaaga ending).
don't knock "nandhu."

I saw the first 15 minutes of aalavandhaan at a relative's place, up until the point where nandu gets introduced to kamal's fiance and he tries to hurt her by spitting stones at her. when u have a newborn to look after you cannot afford the luxury of watching a movie in one sitting I guess. My observations:
kamal has obviously done a lot of research and has taken pains to get into the role of nandu. He should be applauded and it will be interesting to see how the movie pans out. But the way the other Kamal and his girl try to talk in an Americanized way ended up irritating me. Maybe I have got used to real Americans here, so when the heroine uses an Americanism (I think it is) like "do you mind??" to express displeasure it comes across as artificial, especially when there is no proper inflection/emphasis in her voice. Kamal’s accent too has started getting to be irritating in his movies. I also did not like Kamal and his girl talking about their sex life. I dont think kamal being so horny that he cant wait for a 'safe' day to have sex is in any way relevant to the movie. Any other actor and I would be inclined to think it was a cheap attempt at titillation but I have a lot of respect for Kamal as an actor and a person. So I think he just put it in there to provide some sex education, but I still am offended. I was almost squirming in my seat because it was at a relative's place. He tries to throw in these 'scenes' in various movies to maybe make a point that these things happen and we should show them in our movies as western movies do. I have a problem with this because I feel that our culture is different. In our culture we are not very comfortable with public displays of affection (PDA). Western culture is comfortable with that. For those who argue that people objecting to 'kissing' scenes in Indian movies are hypocrites, let me ask you this. In the US people kiss each other rather passionately (I am talking about serious lip-locking here) just before boarding an aircraft. Do you think any Indian would be comfortable doing that? We should stick to what is natural to us and try to adapt from other cultures only when it is beneficial. Probably Kamal and a host of others think that western liberal values wrt sex are beneficial. I differ in my opinion there. In ‘There’s something about Mary’, they showed male body fluids (people who saw the movie will understand this). I was not able to at appreciate the humor in that. It is a natural secretion too, but would you want it displayed for all to see? If we encourage Kamal in these kinds of things a few years down the line he too would start showing those kinds of things in his movies. Someone should tell him that we don’t need to copy western culture in order to make decent movies.
BTW I am a big fan of Kamal. I justed wrote this because someone else a few pages above was arguing that it's OK to show sex etc. in Tamil movies. I disagree.

tigger,
maybe you dont like it. And we have gone over this adnauseum in this thread. there are many people in india who have had pregnancy outcomes after having sex in an "unsafe" "period".
This is one of the common problems social workers wud find (if you happen to speak to some ask them you'll know! ) when they are in many areas (incl cities) lecturing.
now! I remember my grandfather telling me in the song " manamadha leelai'yai vendraar undoo"(i guess) there comes a bit where the person stops singing and sends out a (flying) kiss at his/her partner. That was considered to be rude obnoxious.
now my questions are
1) do u become an BAD person by sitting in movies which have simple flying kisses ?
2) was the director/actor of that movie wrong?
3)are you already in a degeraded culture ?
4) now if you accept simple flying kisses of that kind are you wrong?
who is to say what is wrong in this contantly changing world. Who are you to dictate to kamal and others what is correct for culture.
Well! it is true we have conciously avooided discussing sex in the outside because it was considered private/sacred/holy but arent we the same people who started caste system! encouraged sati, illtreated women and indluged in stupid superstitions like sticking glowing iron rods across your face and walking on smouldering coal.
how can anyone believe the ancestors were always correct?
Neutral Fan,
stop supporting Kamal blindly! This movie has flawed execution. the much hyped graphics also is quite awry in some places.(like the entire last bit where both kamals fight and the baloon scene)
this movie lacks narration and story content. this story is nothing new (infact didnt require a delusional scizophreniac (kamals potrayal was NOT that of a scizophreniac and was a cinematic version of it)
The only +ve point about the movie was Nandhu's potrayal. Thatwas kewl with trend setting fashions and expressions. Otherwise the movie is trite!
The second half is quite abysmal

<<...This movie has flawed execution. the much hyped graphics also is quite awry in some places.(like the entire last bit where both kamals fight and the baloon scene)..>> Bharat, can you outline (with some brevity please) what wud be the right way of execution for this movie? We can then take it up from there..
<<..infact didnt require a delusional scizophreniac (kamals potrayal was NOT that of a scizophreniac ...>> Man, this only shows u missed the whole point. The whole plot is centered around POSITIVE PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA...and each and every single scene has some relevance to the plot (yes, including that BALLOON Jump)...Did u know there are two types of schizophrenics, a positive one and a negative one. NANDHU, for your kindest consideration falls in the former (NANDHU falls in that category wherein the guy think he is a superman, who has no fear...and KAMAL has brilliantly captured that in the final few stunning action scenes where he blindly walks towards a speeding car...because he just does not feel fear when he is on one of those wild hallucinatory trips) And do you, in your wildest imagination find out why (in the climax scene)when KAMAL stares at the twins in RAVEENA's womb (on the scanner monitor) with suspicion? Take a gues Nanba...
And there is objective relevance to all the scenes (silly scenes as according to acclaimed critics like you)...Can u tell me the reasons for the following "trivial" scenes?
1) Why does he say," I can smell her here..She must have been here...where is that girl. Has she escaped.?" (Asks Manisha about Raveena)
2) Why would he take a plunge into the Ballon and walk straight towards a speeding car?
3) A local drug peddler produces a knife and kamal says,"Endhu perisu.." (Mine is big)...? (No double entendre meant ;-))
4) Why the cartoon scenes were unusaully lenghty? (And u thought ppl did not do the editing properly eh?)
5) And why the narration switches over to cartoon when the scenes get bloody?
6) And why he suddenly changes his mind in the climax?
Think over these my friend...Be assured that all these seemingly inconsequential subtle things have a direct bearing on POSITIVE PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA...

and to top it all, this one is an absolute blinder...can u, dear Bharath, hazard a guess on why NANDHU takes an instant dislike for RAVEENA?
(And u thought PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA was not at all needed for the film yeah? Don't u ppl understand KAMAL has more at stake than u & me? And inspite of this business angle, he has done as much justice as can be done to the film...)
