TMS, Vani Jayaram are notorious for their negative remarks on IR. Even we hear that KR passed some comments on ARR. I have read the frontline article where Naushad, HPChaurasia, L Vaidyanathan showered praises upon IR. In this thread, can we get to know all of those compliments, jealous and negative comments of various artistes on other various artistes. It will be interesting for those who do not the full content of what was said and when said.

vishayamillai. ovvoru padaththaiyum
hit seiyya venum". This came in India

should IR's apologists stoop to low levels just to justify IR's remarks. I think it is setting a very nasty precedent.

Whoa ! Karthik ! I don't see any apologists here in the first place. Secondly, it appears that IR's words are being unanimously condemned here. Some of us (affectionately called HCIRFs :-)) are just chiding IR using softer language than what we reserve for others.
What do you expect us to do ? Write a protest letter ? Hold a rally ? Boycott IR ? Everybody here agrees that Raaja's comments were in poor taste - only thing is, they wish to put his reaction in perspective of the prejudices and bias prevalent in the TFM industry today. Nobody is condoning IR's words.

I also read the same comments of ARR in a magazine soon after his entry into TFM.But he was clever enough not to mention any MD while saying that "500 padangalukku isai amaiththu,100 pAdalgai hit seivathu periya vishayamillai. ovvoru padaththaiyum hit seiyya venum".
To Add Somemore :
Soon after Roja's success ARR answered the foll in Kumudam when he was asked the question "Neengal yaar yaar(MD's) padalgalai virumbi keatpeergal?"
ARR mentioned all the MD's from TFM except IR. It was a shock for me to hear it, at that time ARR was known as a guy who was doing Jingles(i.e his part as Keyboard artist in IR'troupe was not known to public very well). But after say year or two he was pestered again and again by reporters to comment on IR's music, then he commented about IR.

Why do you people think that what ARR said was out of malice. Maybe it was a general statement. It's all right to have favorites but must you try to bring someone else done for the sake of it.

if i were to conduct an interview with ARR on behalf of some magazine i would first start of with the question relating to his above statement. he has also made statements like 'i have never listened to IR's music' etc. well none of the magazines never seem to touch any of these issues. thay ask some dumb questions like 'what was u'r first ad jingle', 'how did u get interest in music' etc.
does anyone know when and for how long was he a keyboard artist in IR's troupe. i remember someone saying that he worked with IR in punnagai mannan for doing the computer music.

Here are some information I have about ARR talking about IR.
Filmfare magazine 1996
Was working with composers of the stature of Illayaraja an MSV fun?
It was. I learnt what I should do and what I shouldn't. Abroad every year, a sensational new discovery explodes on the music scene. But here new talent is rare, we keep working with the same singers in film after film and with the same orchestra. It's easy to fall into a rut. I wanted to be different, to be wild. But it wasn't easy...
Why?
Because a composer is given only eight hours to deliver. Where's the time to sit back... reflect... experiment? Whatever you churn out in that timt is accepted. MSV used to compose a phrase and ask his musicians to play it over and over- he'd improve on it every time. The 'feel' had to be right. Illaiyaraja writes out the entire score... He's a genius. I just give my musicians some rough notes-they play them over and over until I am satisfied.
Why did you turn to add films?
I wanted a change. After a year with Illayaraja, I wanted a break.
THE HINDU
Can you tell me about your contribution for Illaiyaraaja's score in 'Punnagai Mannan'.
I was only an operator and not a composer. When I first bought the computer IR called me and we had lots of work sessions. He composed the song and I programmed it.
On the day of the Cassette Release function for 'aasai' he said on stage that he has told reporters that of Deva's music he likes the song 'Annaamalai' and from IR's he likes 'Ingi Idupazhagi'. He says that for some reason all the reporters edit that.
He said in some magazine that he was good friends with the family. He used to play with KR and YSR when they were younger. IR used to treat him with a lot of liking because IR used to have been playing for ARR's father before IR became a MD.

If ARR came up with such idiotic statement about IR, I don't think that fellow has anything to offer people. This bugger can't even produce a single song which has any surprises, but tries out the meanest stuff that IR or other greats would be scared to think of. A real cheap fellow this ARR

I have always been puzzled about ARR's opinions of IR. For one thing, his music has little to no influence of IR's style(one reason why I admire him - he came up with with music totally different from IR's style). Also, in one Filmfare interview, he said IR was one of his favorite MDs but in Hindu, recently, he said his favorite MDs were MSV and KVM, not IR. Also, he has said comparing IR and himself that " a tiger is a tiger and a lion is a lion" (implying that their styles are different but).
He also said that he ditched playing for other MDs (incl IR) because he got tired of the monotony. Its difficult to see anything positive in these.
But that's ok because he is not being hypocritical: he hasn't been very influenced by IR and so doesn't shower praises on him.
But on the flip side, KR has said he is friends with ARR, YSR has listed Roja's songs among his favorites and the major thing: If I'm not mistaken I saw ARR touch the feet of MSV and IR during the April 14th "Tamizh Puthandu Vizha".
Overall, its difficult to make out his attitude.
