'Kalaakaar' was a Copy (or 'remake' as they call it in Hindi, even if the story and screenplay writer is not acknowledged) of 'PayaNangaL Mudivathillai'. The song Ilaya Nila was copied by Kalyanji-Anandji with some changes to the charaNams. However the title instrumental score was a note-by-note copy of the Tamil song.
Kunal Goswami (Manoj Kumar's son) made his debut, while Sridevi played the lead role played by Poornima Jayaram (Bhagyaraj)in the original.

Always wanted to know this - the pallavi of IR's "Unakkenathaane inneramaa" from Ponnu Oorukku Pudhusu (1979) (i don't remember the charanam of this song) and the Hindi bhajan "Om jai jagadeesh hare" sound same.
which one is original and which one is a copy? While this Hindi bhajan is very popular and had come even in a devotional Hindi film (Jai Santhoshi Maa !?) and has taken various forms/versions, IR's song is comparitively less known even among his HCFs!!!

Peter Pan,
Copy right works differently. If u r in a R & D team for a company than any product u develop is owned by the comp and not u. so thay have the right to sell it and also not acknowledge u. U r an internal function inside the black box :-)
So the producer is the owner and everything. it suffices to acknowledge him.there is not a thing 1 that the script writer can do about it. Thats the way this wicked world works... :-)
Therin lies an answer(though partly only) to ARR's alleged "recyled" songs.:)

Sorry another posting but forgot to bring about another IR song...other day I was humming the Starting humming of "Ahhaan Venthuruchu.. Aasaieel Odivantheian....Palluuu..pallamum..." from the Kamal Movie "Kalyana Raman". (Sung by Malaisiya Vasudevan). The Starting humming by malasiya Vasudevan kind off clashed with "Rajavin...Parvai..Ranien Pakkam..Kan theduthei Sorgaam...". Also the "Kalyana raman" song also seems to inspired by
this old song.
Any thoughts?

Nanban,
try something better... just a trace in a tune doesnt mean anything. please try to learn music.
or ask some one to write down the notes of both the song and see if there is any similarity.

This is really cool. When it is IR people talk about trace. Now, take the example of "Roja roja" from kadhalar dhinam and "sippi irrukkudhu" from VNS.
Now tell me what is wrong with the former. I would say that the KD song was one of the best examples of improvisation. It starts in the way where the VNS song ends. Other than that both songs go divergently opposite to each other. There is no similarity else where. But, people in this forum kizhichchified the KD song into pieces and when I came out with a very long opinion about the song I too had brick bats.
Now there are other such examples too. But, I am not going to talk about it now. Neither, I wish to initiate and IR-ARR fight again.
I view the so called copying in a different view.
NaNbaN:
Your MMKR example is really cool. I never noticed it. Yes, the song seem to be pretty much inspired. (There is nothing wrong in it....why there should be?)

i agree with both songs...i also know that its a trace in the begiining tunes... also i dont think one needs to analyze notes to fomr an opinion on traces or similarity...
if one is talking copied in the strictes sense 1 can talk about notes... i gues nanban is just asking that to all..

Guys,
Do anyone of you remember the yesteryear ARR, when he did the title music for the serial "Naan, nee, nila" or something like that, i dont remember the exact title. But the story was by "sujatha", (writer for Mani Ratnam's "roja") and it came around 1989-90 in TV. The title music is a lift from the theme music of "Bounty" (Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins- a 1984 movie).
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks.

the recent hit deva's 'maley maley' from chocolate sounds very similar to rajaa's 'aalana naal mudhala' from kadhal kavidhai.
is it right?

Guru,
i think u r talking about "yen iniya iyendra" the space age serial by sujatah which came in ananda vikatan. I know the title music is copied (but i am not sure the MD is ARR ). I have seen it not only in bounty but a movie called " a swan in love" (an X rated movie released in sathyam theatre :-) ) and lot of old movies.... it should be an old composition..

hi nanban
this forum is not to discuss what r all the songs u know?
u have given two songs.they r no way realted to each other.
u simply try to prove that ilalayaraja is copying that's all.but u don;t have that much music sense to prove it.
o.k
so try some other music directrs.give some other useless comparision.

The song 'padha kolusu padi varum padi varum' from film 'thriumathi pazhanichami' (the charanam part) has heavy resemblance to the song 'nitham nitham en nenjOdu inba kana' from 'koottu puzhukkal'. 'nitham nitham' is available in dhool.

Ram, I dont see the similarity in rhythm for the song thaniyE and the Pat Benatar song. BTW, maybe we discussed this before the first charanam of kARRE en vAsal vanthAi sounds like a piece from an older song.
