  Classical music ....spb is not tranined in classical music of anyform...still he does the greatest job. Rafi has not done by far south indian music of any kind.
  
  SPB can shift his grears from various forms of music, while rafi did not, like kjy there are songs branded rafi's, IMHO, many mds swtiched to kishore who was more verstile than rafi.
  Serioulsy I dont want to degrade Rafi here, he had great songs no doubt. but I feel spb is the M.V.Singer of indian music history.

  I agree Rafi was one of the legends India has produced. He was truly gifted which many people had high regards for.
  But all you nerds like IMF want to take Hindi music to a high pedestal and belitte TFM - this is totally uncacceptable.
  What artists truly dont like is to be compared with another artist. Even when you go to music competitions, the comparison is "how one is well prepared than the other", but not "How one expresses better than the other". Because expressions are very personal. If you want you can compare two imitators like "How well he imitates a person better than the other person". Each artist has his own form of expression that should never be branded "Oh! he is not like the other one". This is not a very healthy criticism.
  Just for an example - go to an accomplished singer you know (say a friend) and tell him/her "hey you don't even come close to SPB/LATA"...and immediately take cover. If the other person had a rifle, you would be long gone. A personal request. Compare two people if you really think one is doing a really bad job. But dont compare two people that are in the same league.

  I think this comparison is getting silly.
  Each singer is unique in his/her own way.
  Rafi was gifted in the sense he was a natural,who never had any formal training in classical singing but still could sing difficult songs with such ease.
  ApPerson doesnt necessarily be great because he shows variations,to me personally having or establishing ones own unqiue identity is the tougest and challenging part for each singer
  And Rafi is KJY inspiration as told in a interview by KJY himself. But KJY never imitated Rafi.
  Now to compare each individual is killing music and artist since each person has his/her own + and - .
  Anyway I know this topic is started only to generate some mails so I will stop here

  Guys i am a Silent Reader, but when i came across this thread, I Felt the need to break my silence. I am big Fan of Rafi after him i am big Fan Spb.
  They Both are great singers. IMHO i Feel u are comparing Artist in Different eras. There was no Rock Music or Metal music is the Days of Rafi Nor have i heard anything From Spb which can clasify as a music of 60's Era.
  
  I am Classical musician myself (though quit after nine years) but I can say with Confidence u can identify urself tosinger and song, when Rafi Sing it. I urge u to do this guys that start humming a the Songs of Rafi eg Phooolon ki Rani Baharon ki Mallika or Mere Mohobat jawan rahegi sadha, Some along the song u involuntarily start smiling. Rafi had the Ability to bring out the inner most emotion. Again i maintain comparing these legend is futile.
  
  Just a pssing note most of the theards i have seen so far the posting are. most often than not, comparing one person to another and war of words folowing that. I think it is time u start at the person ability than comparing them

  Identidying actors/actresses purely based on the playback singer's rendition (whether it is Rafi, PS, SPB, KK, Lata, or TMS) is one of the biggest myths among the fans. This is just one way for ordinary fans to shower on themselves extraordinary talents (in the name of praising the artists of their choice). This is NOT meant as a personal insult, but please, cut the crap.

  All i said was just a fact about people attending the funeral of rafi. I wanted to show he was a great legend, that's all, not to prove anything. It was raining that day and still people followed his casket, which is just another fact. Don't you guys want to know true facts ??. I'm just listing them so i can share them with you. If someone just says something against you guys, you just blast them. Talk about stupidity !!!. And don't make stupid comments about when mozart dies we didn't know there was a funeral cause it shows your ignorance. Shruti was right that you guys are blasting rafi based on stupid proofs like KK had a more base voice or he took over rafi after aradhna etc. Just base your arguments on proofs that make sense and not on dumb ones. And don't blast anyone because they have their own opinion. I gave my opinion based on facts. You guys just say it based on baseless facts which shows how much you know about music. I never said SPB was not good. I just said rafi was better like shruti said. You can say SPB or kk is better. That's fine. Everyone has their own opinion. But base THAT opinion on good sensable facts and not crazy ones to prove your opinion. I mean look at what you've written ??. Comment himself gave his opinion based on no facts. I want to hear him back his statement saying that kk is more versatile than rafi. If someone's proofs are wrong, then it is our job to correct them with solid proofs and facts. No one's opinion is wrong, but some people's facts are wrong. Shruti was listing solid proofs earlier and all i wanted to do was do the same thing. And if that happens, you guys can't take it. If you can't take it then you shouldn't be here talking about this subject. Everyone wants to hear true sensable facts and not opinionative ones. If you guys want to balst some personality, do it with good proofs and not senseless ones and no one will disagree with your proofs because you gave solid ones. That's all.   IMF, we exactly can read your mind. You seek trouble by means of "discussion". Don't think anyone of us dont know facts. People attending someones funeral is in no way connected to him being better than another person. Your personal opinions are good, but please remember that it is ONLY AN OPINION. I gain nothing by saying "he is better than the other". If I know that is the case, then I wouldnt want the world to know. To me comparisons like yours bear no meaning - It only kills an artist. Like I said before "NO ARTIST WANT TO BE COMPARED AND THAT TOO BY PEOPLE LIKE YOU". That said, you will do a lot of good if you shut up...

  Like i said before, i didn't mean that rafi was better than spb because people followed his funeral procession, i just wanted to state a fact which i thought would be interesting. Swamiji, Why wouldn't you want the world to know your opinion if you think that someone is better than the other. It is just an opinion. But prove it with facts. I didn't start to compare, i just agreed with what this person who started the thread is saying because me and him and others have the same opinions. That's all. Finished. Then along came a person who said KK was better and spb the greatest without stating his facts (this was deepa). Then, Shruti replied to them saying that no one can be compared to rafi which was his own opinion and he based it on facts. Then that is how i started to share my opinions based on facts i know. The facts were not meant to compare, it was just to back up my opinion. Whoever started to compare was wrong. That's all. Enjoy Music.
