Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

hi ehsaan, thanx for replyin'. So far, I have not heard the lagaan, taal or zubeida kind of music from u guys. i would like you to compose some indian-classical or folk kind of music. do u have any plans of releasing an album like that?? IS it because of your cool outlook that, u guyz dont get those historical BIG projects??....is there any idea of releasing a non-filmi album??

Hi Selrocks we havent had a chance to compose for a folk or classical kind of film but yes we will be able to compose for one . We could score symphonies but it would not be pure classical but orchestral yes.
Hi Novice Ive heard only one song from Boys which was really nice very contemporary. I think I would first look for a good melody and then look for the production , orechestration etc.
Hi Sridhar I'll try and do so once our website is ready.

Hi Ehsaan,
Nice album. I was wondering if u wud be using the singer Nandini again. I loved her voice, and would like to hear her again. If I am not true, she is usually a sessions player right? Has she performed on any of your songs?
Another request. Could you please ask Loy if he can make available the themes he composed for 'World this Week' and 'Turning Point' on doordarshan. As a kid, I loved those themes, and would like to hear them again.
regards,
Sam

Dear Friends!
Im hoping that whatever im going to discuss will be accepted in a good mood. I m hoping for a good healthy discussion.
Well my name is FAIZAN I m from Karachi-Pakistan. Im a big fan of KUMAR SANU u can even call me one of the craziest fan of KUMAR SANU. I just love KUMAR SANU. Im also a sincere music lover. My favourite Music Directors are AR RAHMAN, NADEEM SHRAVAN, JATIN LALIT, ANU MALIK, RAJESH ROSHAN, HIMESH RESHAMIYA and others(Im only talking about FILM MUSIC). I have not a great liking towards the music of SEL. But! Now adays i have also started liking the tunes of SHANKAR EHSAAN LOY specially their recent albums like KUCH NA KAHO and yes KAL HO NA HO is good not an extraordinary effort but a good hard effort by them (only 1 song in whole album is hummable 'Title song') I feel SEL have not been successful in producing good melody soundtracks in recent times there was a big gap and still there is a certain vacuum, i even dont consider DIL CHAHTA HAI to be SEL' best work till date..THEIR BEST IS YET TO COME! Im sure and im waiting fot it.! But yes it is accepted that this team is really working hard. The VACUUM in their compositions which i feel is HEART TOUCHING MELODY TUNES which is the greatest assest of all music listeners and lovers and that is terribly missing. According to me the vacuum is due to the absence of great artist like KUMAR SANU in their songs. So far they have not utilize the capabilities of this great singer. They should think about this matter. I dont know whats the reason behind not using a great singer like KUMAR SANU so far. In my opinion this is A BIG LOSS! With due respect, i request SEL to think abt this matter they should work together, and it should be done in near future. After all Music gives us the lesson of Love and Peace. I dont think there is any mis understing between SHANKAR EHSAAN LOY and KUMAR SANU. They should settle down all matters. We true MUSIC LOVERS needs a big revolution.
We all music lovers want some great songs from this combination.
Faizan

haha!
Nice one this one.. kumar sanu is probably the luckiest singer in india who's that popular.. he's got an painfully boring nasal voice... directly from his nose..
Great music directors like a.r.rahman have not worked with him much at all (except in kabhi na kabhi). there is so much of talent outside that hindi film music should not refrain from giving chances to them instead the cacophonix sanu singing all 8-10 songs in a nadeem sharavan album.. god save us..
btw, I am an ardent admirer of SEL. loved armaan so much, dilchahta hai rocked!!! shool and mission kashmir was really creative and kal ho na ho is great too. lovely commercial easy go listen album..
way to go you guys..
waiting for lakshya!!!!
also ehsaan,
i would like to know why you don't perform much in concerts..like shankar (mynta, shraddha, shakthi and a many...) and loy too playing some jazz keys(great chords) in shraddha along shankar and that mandolin maestro..
also , how much are you invloved in the indianness, i mean the classical part of the team's creation? whom do you regard as the current best in indian film music? I am a great fan of shankar's voice and have heard he's a great guy when some spontaneous jammin sessions happen.. how does he do it?
kindly reply.

Hi Faizan unfortunately we are not particularly fond of Kumar Sanus voice but who knows we may use him some time.

Hi Sush thanks for your lovely comments. Well about performing live with Shraddha etc I guess my guitar style is more suited to a blues / rock kind of thing maybe touching a little bit of jazz the high speed fusion that these guys play is not really my bag( i would get seriously nervous playing along side U Srinivas :) ). Loy and I plan to form our old band sometime later this year and lets see what happens we play a mix of funk , jazz and blues.
Well I guess my Indianness is really in the melodic aspect I have heard tons of old film
music as a kid hence I can understand the Indian sound. I am not really classically trained but do have a rough understanding of raagas.
Shankar is a great improviser and a very very talented musician with a great sense of humour.
Regards
Ehsaan

Hi Faizan one more comment from me on your post is that if there is no melody there is no song so according to you we have been just composing " vacuums " just something that maybe we call modern film music and not the repition of what has been done for the last 10 years or so. for us to compose the melodic songs as you know would be extremely simple we would create song banks of 30000 songs as some music directors claim to have !!!! it gets difficult when u dont have song banks and the film script is your inspiration. I guess we fit in there some where.

Hi Ehsaan,
So great to get a reply from you. Great to know more about you guys.. Esplly you are so keen into jazz and blues...
I infact started listening to jazz more after i got hooked into the jazz-carnatic fuse of the legendary shakti. john mclaughlin was so inspiring.. the part of him in an album called natural elements and handful of beauty with l.shankar, zakir and vikku were just awesome! now U.shrinivas is into the revival of this band whom john regards as a monster. true, shrinivas is god! shankar, shivamani and selvaganesh has also been invloved with shakti in their last few indian tours. they are trully the best in fusion. they are so fast and have fantastic rapport. in fact in one of the concerts which i attended..they played a brilliant compos of theirs called maya".. after a level they themselves didn't realise that they were so fast and selva gave up first.. followed by john...
by this time zakir and shrinivas were so fast... after a while zakir too quit and gave up.. SHRINIVAS just carried on and on... he was out of the world. it was just magical!
i also listen to the mahavishnu orchestra another great jazz-blues specialists..
Kindly do share some other jazz stuff which your like... also whom do you regard as the current best in indian film music?

hi sush
being a guitarist my first choice would be b.b. king , robben ford ,larry carlton , scott henderson , pat metheny , jeff beck and myriad other fusion and blues guitarists !!!! i love all of miles davis ' music , i love joe zawinlu both solo and with weather report there are so many artists i like !!!!!
i think a.r. rahman is really somewhere else his music is from the heart and appeals to everyone from the listener to the musician. i have known him from his jingle days when he was called a.s. dalipkumar or dilip even then his music blew me away !!!! i think it is so important to be a musician first then a composer just composing on a harmonium is not enough. rahman is a great keyboardist as ilyaraja is a wonderful classical guitarist . i need to listen to more of ilyaraja s music but have heard so much about him everytime we work with the string section in chennai as a lot of his musicians work with us.
if u want i can email u list of albums i remommend ..............fusion and blues

Oh that would be great.
Thanks so much ehsaan. please do email me the list. my email id is g_sush@yahoo.com.
i am also a great fan of rahman. days wen i rarely listened to film music except for some ilayaraja works, suddenly roja emerged and the whole sound changed. still feel pathetic wen people compare and bash the 2 brilliant musicians/md's..
rahman and ilayaraja..happening so much in this site esplly.
waiting to get your reply,
sush
