Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

hi mirage the album is out and available. i shall definitely tell shankar but somehow i dont feel he sings the same kind of songs. reality is that he has a vocal range which is much higher than most of the singers hence he does tend to sing songs which require a strong high voice ...............but then again he can sing songs classically oriented so well so i guess finally it is a subjective opinion .

HI Ehsaan,
It's Jyothika from London.
I bought the album Kal Ho Na Ho yesterday...heard it only 5 or 6 times .....what do I say...do you guys ever produce bad stuff! K.H.N.H is definitly another winner! Great music....very interesting indeed, alot of variety. Javed saab has done full justice again with some very nice lyrics...what a good team you make.Even though shankar ji is a superb singer it was nice of you guys to restrict him to just one song!!!!only joking!!!! Well Ehsaan ji what's next in the pipeline and when will it come out!! Can't wait!!! Lastly please answer this, when are you guys working with Chitra again and when will you guys be working with Sri SP Balasubramaniam...I can't wait to hear your compositions rendered by SP Bala and Chitra..even better if it was together...How about a nice love duet...or a romantic ballad??

HI Ehsaan
Awesome songs in Kal Ho Na Ho. Also I think your songs in Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai and Nayee Padosan were highly underrated..I loved them too..
Just a suggestion...please avoid ALka Yagnik..she takes away all the freshness in your
music...
are you guys working on any tamil movies?

Hey Jyothika thanks a lot !!!! Tomorrow is the music launch conference etc in Bombay and we will be performing the title song live and unplugged so maybe u will catch it on some bollywood channel. We really hope to work with Chitra again with SPB !!!!
Our next release is a supernatural thriller called Rudraksha the music of that is completely different maybe a bit heavier and electronic !!!

Hi Sarat pity that films like Nayee Padosan and Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai didnt really carry the songs into any kind of longevity we pray that Kal Ho Na Ho does that !!!!
Alka is a very fine singer and there are somethings that she sings which are so good.

To start with,
I rarely listen to hindi songs because I dont get to listen to it quite often..but there were really good reviews for Kal Ho Na Kaho..
So,i was really tempted and so I did..Actually I am happy that I did!!!!
It has been a long time since there has been a good all round Hindi album..The last few I remember was Saathiya ,DCH..
The melody that was missing very much in recent songs : I think it is back with Kal Ho Na Ho.
I am not well versed in music to do a review but these are my comments ...
my picks
-Heart Beat: this was my favourite...flute,guitar pieces were wooow...!
-Kal Ho Na Ho
I would call it a typical Hindi song because of the way it starts..but check out the first interlude when the piano (?) intervenes
tune .It is really good .Sonu's voice is really apt for this song
-Kuch To Hua Hai
The music piece that repeats in this song is really good..(seems like mouth organ..but i am sure it is a different instrument)..my fav song..
I think SEL are experts in making the interludes very interesting...It is not Rahman-like but it is really different I thot
-Pretty Woman
hindi equivalent of dappanguthu..But i am sure it would be famous..:-) ..the electric guitar(?) was great..in the pretty woman part..one of the songs that would make u dance wherever u r
-Maahi Ve
The start was at least unexpected for a song that is titled "Maahi Ve" ..
nice song...

Ehsaan,
I just rented the DVD of Kuch Na Kaho, This is one of the recent DVD's i did not forward the songs for 2 reasons, 1) Gorgeous Aish 2)The songs. Mannn they are mesmerizing with a awesome melody..
Most of all, I liked the Serenity of the BGM. Some-parts of the movie just got life through the Music.. ex I really liked when Abishek is about to leave for US.. it was a soothing BGM..
You guys seem to fill up one void that is often seen in recent movies: BGM..
Gr8 Work..

hi ehsaan,
I have been following ur work for a long time. I have 3 questions to ask...
1. Nowadays, it seems 'easier' to compose music....i mean, get one of those commercially available beats, use some of the numerous samples available( for bass, guitar, flute, etc etc), and with a decent knowledge of music, compose a lot of songs. what is ur style of composing music??..do u manufacture new sounds?? i mean, is there any distinct style of composing that u have??...for example, yanni breaks his connections from the external world,(i dunno abt the level of exaggeration) and chooses on a feel. Illayaraja doesnt do any additional mixing to his music..whatever comes to his mind is what we hear. ur definitley one of those creative ppl out there..so, what is ur style??

on: Tue Sep 30 04:44:02 EDT 2003
2. I would like to tell u my opinion here. If someone gives me a composition and asks me to guess the composer, I can do it for a few composers...as in, I think I can tell that for Rahman, Illayaraja, Yanni, Ismail Darbar. But, with respect to ur music , i'm afraid, i can guess only after elimination of the above composers. Till date, u have scored some brilliant music, but I cant identify any distinct style, say wrt orchestration, chord-progressions. It is true that you are scoring for scripts diverse in genre, but I request you to have a SEL stamp on every song, in some way or the other. This is a humble request.

Hi Parasanna i think our USB is that each album will sound different . We like to think of our music ' film specific ' and the script is the source of our inspiration.

Ehsaan:
KHNK sounded terribly ominous till I reached 'Maahi Ve' and 'Pretty Woman'. One cool soundtrack. Actually it has given a new-age flavour to the usual Dharma Prod. songs ala Jatin Lalit. Now, who's idea was the cinemix of 'Pretty Woman'...Karan's? Interesting stuff, that! Shankar excels in his high-spirited singing in both these tracks.

Ehsaan, just curious,,how do you guys manage to do it? A 3-man team is rare and there are bound to be difference of opinions on a lot of issues.
Also, are you content just to be part of a team or do you have thoughts of going solo as a composer sometime in the future?

why did u use the word, ominous??
hi ehsaan, one of my friends juz told me that pretty women is exactly the English song "pretty women", with some bhangra beats in it??....is it true??

Parkistani, Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi or something else??
And will you do soundtracks for any tamil movies?

Would 'gloomy' be a better word? I must've been reading too much into the supposed fact that KHNH was a modern-day version of Hrishida's 'Anand'...damn the film journos!

hi vijay yes with 3 people there are a lot of arguments and debate but in the end it goes towards making a better song.
hi sel rocks !!! karan johar bought the rights to the song pretty woman by roy orbison and we added a few melodies to it and used some of the original ones its like a new version of the old song and the composition has been credited to roy orbison.
