I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Oh, sorry about that, bm. When I clicked the url from this thread it worked....and I also was able to listen to tuppuru tuppuru....I wonder why you having difficulties. Try www.mahanadi.com and then do a VJ search on the site. I hope this suggestion yields results.

Naaz...you can also try http://www.orissa.net - go to the music page and search for "Bani Jairam" or "Bani Jayaram". remember oria's and bengali's often pronounce 'v' as 'b'! Yes, and the song is "megha borosil tuppuru tuppuru". At one place she cries out "aahha" and thats real great!

Naaz:
I heard your program in bits and pieces ...of course it was good, but there was office work after a long 3 day holiday here. Its a pity I couldnt hear it at a stretch. However I thought that you (i.e. Naaz Ahmed) would have compered the programme. But I was surprised to hear the name of the person as some Ameen (when he concluded). Moreover I was also surprised that he pronounced VJs name as Vani ('n' as in naughty) and not VaNi ('N' as in the Hindi 'raN-neeti i.e. rules of war)!! Or am I missing something?
Thanks a lot for your treat!

Hey Guys, Thanks a lot for tuning in and all your gracious comments! I really enjoyed presenting those albums. It was a wonderfully popular show - my phone in the studio kept ringing non-stop. AVR, I wonder why you heard my N as in "naughty" - as I consciously was using the periya Na/Ni from Tamizh. Hmmm - maybe, my consciousness slipped with all those mellow numbers!! I will be more watchful next time!! :-) (but songs like those are easy to float away on!!)
Vaada is a fine album. Sadhana Sargam in Hindi is something remarkable. She does such a good job with those lyrics.
I have never heard my voice on the net...How the hell does it sound??

Thanks.

Who loses if VJ doesn't sing in Hindi and Tamizh Films? (That's rhetorical by the way!) :-)
There was an interesting episode on the phone while I was presenting the show this evening. A lady from the 'burbs called and asked me if the show was on regularly on Sundays. I told her, yes, it has been that way for more than a decade. She was taken aback - more because, as she explained, she had missed all those programmes that had gone by. Then she insisted that spell the names of the singers - Vani Jairam and Lata Mangeshkar,(interesting irony there) and requested the names and addresses of the music companies that had released the albums.
Then she said this: I don't understand a word of what they are singing, but it all seems so "pure and ethereal" (her words verbatim) - and kept saying "you've got to give us more of this stuff. This is so unforgettable...say you'll be back with more!"
She concluded with this confession: "I am a German-Canadian and I don't think I have heard such singing before. Where can I find the tapes locally??"
It is moments like these that have made it all worthwhile...To bring India to so many genuine listeners through music - in Canada!
I had to share this with you guys.

Here is a request to all participants (in this thread particularly) - I am planning a compilation of hits from 70s /80s by VJ PS SJ SPB KJY PJC and UR. If you can help me with a quick choice of songs by VJ (5 solos, 5 duets) I will take your preferences into account sealing the compilation...However, please remember that I might not have all the VJ songs in my library, hence try and keep your selections within the "well-known/available" range. Neel D, AVR, Priya, Susi, Kik - your input is an absolute must.
I am planning a special radio show on Rhythms India for Ugadi/Tamizh New Year's Day. It will be an all out Tamizh/Telegu radio show. And your lists will help me a lot in getting the compilation right. My thanks in advance for your lists. :-)

Addendum to the above:
You can also email your lists of 10 directly to me at naaz99@yahoo.com (posting it here might also be a good cross-reference game - to see how many lists share songs in common.) Either way, please don't hold back. Let it rip!! :-)

Everyone,
Did you all stay tuned? Here comes something new.
Inspired by Naaz's radio programme last night, I put together a little thing. It is not the fanciest thing in the world. But I hope that you will enjoy it.
Here is the Grand Opening of a small website for VJ songs. This is only a start.
