Hi Guys,
I was listening songs from Nilave Mugam Kaattu by IR.
Music for the 1st and 2nd stanza of the song "suttraathe boomi thaaye" sounded similar to "enai kaanavilaye" song from Kaathal Thesam.
Personally i like both songs. If there are any such inspirations - let's discuss.

Don't dream.Come to reality...Do u mean to say all songs are mere Coincidence and Samples. If so, my ealier posted fact is clear, that ARR style of Music is availble through out the world. But IR style of music, U can find only and only from this Geneous.

Yes, IR wishes to copy from the master.
But unfortunately he is too old and cannot copy skillfully.
ARR rulez!

No ARR's critic. its 10 out of 10..Nobody has tried to find out the real source of my sons songs. If he can copy "indha poovilum vaasam undu " from some unknown composer and that is found out after 20 years...wait, I am sure before I die and my son dies almost all his songs will be explored and the real composer will get his credit. My son even copied this bachaa rahman's tune and beat once. what to say?

dei paraiyan punndda mavangalla,
ARR is a copycat. People of Indian origin living outside India are well aware of this. Because we are exposed to all kind of music since we are born. For a village living paraiyan like you, you are only exposed to indian music and in particular indian film music. If you don't know anything don't make yourself an even MORE punndda mavane. You are only exposing your music 'skills' by being such a punndda mavane.

Suriyan FM, Radio Mirchi, Sun TV Subtha Swarangal, Raj TV Raja Geetham, Star Vija Ninaithaley Inikkum, Jaya TV Melodies, KL Radio satellite channel .... every where IR songs rulez. His old unheard songs of 80's which were least heard or never probagated those days are getting welcome revivals. It sounds great to hear those songs within four walls of our room. Eg: 'Idho Idho En Nenjiley', 'Putham Puthu Kalai', 'Egantha Valai...','Azhagaga Chirithathu..'.
It is a fact.. IR rulez the Wallz

Mani Ratnam gives his comments on the music directors he has worked with - Illayaraja and Rahman. (Film fare-Oct 96)
"I have worked with two music directors - Ilaiyaraja and A R Rahman. They're perfect opposites in the way they work.
Illaiyaraja is absolutely prolific. He is an amazing talent who believes that the music written down by him should be stuck to totally. And then it is recorded which is just a matter of execution.
Rahman does the opposite. He has the music in his mind, and uses every musician as an artiste, probably because he has been an instrumentalist himself. he tries to extract something extra from every one of his musicians as well as his playback singers. He believes in their addition input.
Rahman improvises while Illaiyaraja has every little detail chalked out. Like Rahman I try to improvise while leaving others free to make their additional contribution...though I wish I could be like Ilaiyaraja and work out everything on paper."
NOW JUDGE THIS FOR YOURSELF [ this was taken frm rahmanonline.com]

I guess what Maniratnam was polite in saying that as I am sure that was the reason he broke up with IR and that could be the same reason that he like working with ARR better than IR. Maybe, working with IR make him look like a fool if he turns down all ideas and suggestions of others as he considers himself as the Master of Music. However big or successful you are, there is no harm in listening to others' sincere ideas. I always thought this is where ARR completely outscores the other genius and thats why people started flocking towards him to work with him. Maybe, people did not have a decent alternative to IR in the 80s and thats why they had to stick with IR. And once ARR came up and proved his mettle and showed that he can be as down to earth as he can be when it comes to accepting others inputs and ideas (after all it is someone else's film and ideas and not your own personal album), everyone naturally preffered him to IR , in addition to his chartbusters-churning abilities. Obviously, given a choice to work with such 2 geniuses, I would like to work with both of them, but it is the attitude, versatility, broad thinking, improvisations of his ow ideas makes ARR a safer bet.

"after all it is someone else's film and ideas and not your own personal album"
MS :
With all due respect, given the number of situational songs Raaja does in movies and the kind of BGMs he composes I am sure he is well aware of this fact. If you read the article on how Raaja composes songs you will understand whether Raaja is open to suggestions or not. But even to suggest ideas to him one needs to have better ideas than him. I am sure that most directors in the field do not have the musical authority to do that, barring the exceptionally brilliant ones and even they are satisfied with his music. People did/do not have a decent alternative to Raaja because he has raised the standards of film music to overwhelming heights and did/does things which were/are stuff of dreams for other composers.
ARR gets the best out of his artists, great. But that is also why he hires the best possible creative minds and also takes plenty of time to compose. IMHO it seems like it is ARR who treats the movie like his own album instead of worrying about whether the music will fit in or not.
You DO NOT IMPROVE on something which is already COMPLETE.

thx jag,
to MS:
adding to wat jag has said.Yes after given the storyline and the project and after initial discussions on the movie IR comes up with his compositions which doesnt need any improvisitions.thats why Ir had been succesful in delivering as much as 9 films for a deepavali in 80s.his max no. of films were done in 84 where he composed for 66 films.ARR cud reach that mark only after 8 long yrs.moreover IR composed for 425 films in his first 10 yrs of carrer.ARR has come up with +/- 80 films in 10 yrs. the hollywood style of making movies is preparing the script in firsthand and then going got shoot.Kamalhassan is trying to adopt the same style.Heyram was done similarly. this method prooves to be safe, economically and in time factor.
Adding, it was with ARR that the making of film music had been degraded.he doesnt sit with the director for discussions. The songs for BABA were composed when he was at london. the plot and situations were explained to him via net and phone and VM sent the lyrics via net. he sold his entire album doli sajke rakna to a tamil movie jodi which had entirely different storyline and situations.how cud he justify this. IR had given tunes like this to other films but he doesnt sell the whole album he picks up tunes composed by him for similar situations and gives them.
Adding IR himself is a lyricist and great visualizer that he invents plots or situations where a director cud fit a song after the story is said to him.The song Izaiyil thodunguthamma in Heyram was a situation where IR found that a song cud be fit in.
finally IR in allways helps the directors in elevating their stroy by giving them suggestions and improvisions. once it is finalised thats it nothing more. thats why Ir was able to compose for 800+ movies in 27 yrs.
on manis comment : yes he certainely wud like to be as IR bcos the extensive production cost that involves in his films are bcos of not preplanning it.his Nayagan originally came upto 5.5 hrs after final editing then he edited again to bring down the movie for 2.75 hrs.jus think of the film roles, time and labor wasted on this.this has happened with his every movie. initial dalapathi was 4.5 hrs. his otehr movies till recent ones are shot for not less then 4 hrs.but kamal is trying to change this trend and he has prepared the entire script for his nxt production sandiyar. and u know the music is by IR for that film.geniuses think alike and work alike.

even from mani's statement u can figure out that ir works by his self. and his music is his own music. arr needs more input from others.... surashpeters, ranjith barot, harrisjeyaraj... in future there might be more in this list. they all are great musitions. when they are with arr, arr was delivering great music, after harris depature his albums were boring... finaly he gave some decent songs in boys. that tells us the whole story.
