Hi Guys,
I was listening songs from Nilave Mugam Kaattu by IR.
Music for the 1st and 2nd stanza of the song "suttraathe boomi thaaye" sounded similar to "enai kaanavilaye" song from Kaathal Thesam.
Personally i like both songs. If there are any such inspirations - let's discuss.

Here is a stunner: I was watching scenes from Thalabadhy today and was listening to the BGM in the scene where Rajni says "Thalabadhy" to Shobana. Compare with the music in Lagaan of the song "OrE chori dil sE niklE" (or some such thing). It will be an eye opener. IR is a legend not without reason. The Lagaan song is a beauty though.

Pennathur,
ARR's orchestration is superior to IR's?. I don't think so on any aspect. Recording quality is not just great orchestration.
Can you name a song equivalent to 'Aananda Raagam Ketkum Kaalam' interms of orchestration from ARR?. You cannot.

A masterpiece of all time is IR's Ninu kori varnum from Agni nacchitaram. I have yet to find a song to beat the orchestrization in that song.
Don't assume that I don't listen to any other songs. I am not biased for the composer or his music, I am just searching for a better song complete in all respects like the above mentioned.
(if you have found some please mention them as I can listen and enjoy them. TIA)
just a bit of BGM stuff, if you have seen Indiran Chandira Movie, listen to the BGM bit at the initial stages of the movie, in the mayor's office when charan raj says that they have caught vijayshanti and asks the mayor what to do with her. listen to the amazing bgm bit just around 4 seconds (played on piano I think) and you will know the detail in which IR composes bgm.

Nice observation.
Pennathur:
Thanks for this interesting info."
Are Yaar,
These are the posts that you ridicule with thru 'out the newtfmpage history. Interestingly enuf, all these jib comes after somebody who thinks he/she has pointed out something negative abt IR.
Well my dear fren, u r so pathetic. Go and carry on your orgy with the few who you used to tap on each other's back. What happened to them that now you have to piggyback onto someone who u think is anti-IR? All ran away? What happened to that TOTALLY CRAP piece of constellation thread where you pathetics started for ARR? Nothing else to talk abt ARR??
Pathetic fools.

You guys familiar with the song 'Koottukkuyile' in Manam Virumbuthe Unnai? I know that it does not have the exact same tune as ARR's 'Maargazhi Poove' in May Maatham, but it has the same hip-hop beats and is also set in raagam Hindolam.

Listen to the song "Nadakindra pathayil" sung by janaki from the movie "Aathma". This was composed by IR in the year 1993(post ARR intro). You will see how IR was inspired by ARR's Puthiya mugham music(kannukku mai azhagu song)...

Om,
I think both movies are in the same year, in fact musicindiaonline lists pudhiya mugam as 1994 and athma as 1993 (please verify). they sound slightly similar due to the usage of string beats throughout, but the actual raagam is entirely different.

Jag,
Also Athma is by Pratap Pothan. He takes a movie for long period. Definitely Athma songs are recorded much before Athma release.

As far as I remember, Aathma got released after Pudhiya Mugham. I remember feeling, 'hey, this is not the usual ilayaraja kind of song'. This sounds more like the songs from pudhiya mugham'...
And as 'anbe sivam' says probably athma was recorded much before its release, in that case I stand corrected. Probably just a coincidence...

whatever said here,,i strongly believe that IR was never ever in the past got influenced by ARR and i dont think that is going to happen in future.
The examples you guys are giving are too vague to call 'inspirations'.
i believe IR's inspirations are from the great classic composers of the past.

IR's Orchestration was great even during the days in 1980.Songs such as 'Etho Mohum', 'Kathal Oviyum Padum Kaviyum', 'Putham Puthu Kalai' etc were at its best in India during that time. IR has tried all variety of songs in his 800+ film career. Making Music of ARR style is a childs play for him.
For instance, Just take a old IR song, Mix it with an appropriate Rhytm Beat from the latest Keyboard. Add some extra Bass. Give it to Sound Engineer for DTS Mix. And Instant ARR Style of Song is ready.
But IR has no intention of going in for such gimmicks. He keeps his style intact.
You can find ARR kind of Music throughout the World but IR's style only and Only from this Genious.

IR's music gets down to our hearts. ARR's drives our nerves.
I like both of them in my own way, but a funny thing is what my brother thinks of most ARR songs. Good for a person suffering of constipation. Not my view though.
