Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Kaetadhu Kidaithadhu Kodi Kanakkil!
Thanks for all the details and cross references.
Yes, it is hard to believe that it is the same Padi Konde Iruppaen VJ in Rasathirosapoovae...Contrast (and ability to transform ones' singing "character") is staggering. Even the two versions of the former are so distinctly apart in their emotional reach.
I really liked En Yoga Jadhagam Naan Unnai Serndhadhu...had forgotten all about it.
Another rare duet (VJ-SJ) which I cherish is Penne Bhoomiyadi from Manidharil Iththanai Nirangala. Music was by Shyam, I believe. Andha Paatula, "Ah, Sari Sari Sari Sari..." nnu oru reengaram varum - that lingers to this day!

Oh, yes- 'Penne Bhoomiyadi' is a captivating song, picturised on Sridevi and Manorama. I believe it a remake of Shyam's own hit song from Malayalam. Shyam has done wonderful music in tamil-( and has given some lovely songs to VJ)-in fact when once I tried to list his films, I got around 21- I feel there may be more. I heard he was very successful in Malayalam.
The humming in the beginning of 'Penne bhoomiyadi' is similar to SPB's humming in the beginning of "Bhoomadevi poley vaazhum jeevan nee thaney" from Pancha kalyani- also by Shyam.

Saravanan,
Shyam had given music for Mouli films -Vaa entha pakkam & Matravai Neril. I also seem to remeber a Jaidevi-Nizhalgal ravi movie( directed by Jayadevi) I think the music was by Shyam. matravai Neril had one good song can't remember off hand.
Naaz,
thanks for the welcome. I do check in now & then but as u know though I like VJ I am not a die hard fan of hers. So I hust go thro the postings so as to recollect some of the forgotten nos-- like the Pullankuzhal gem.
neelD,
What about my request? "Vendum vedum "enakku antha song

Saravanan -
Shyam's compositions always had a link, each song of his contained a trace of his earlier pieces - whether this was intentional or just his manner of arrangement/style I can't say. But his tunes had a trademark quality that made them immediately identifiable (say, like OPN or SC from HFM.)
Hence, not just "Bhoomadevi Poley Vazhum," but also "Galeer Galeer Endre Kalam Thannaal Inge Munaerudhu," the haunting SJ solo from Devadhai (Jayanthi's comeback, sort of, which didn't really happen?) also has a melodic similarity to Penne Bhoomiyadi.
Another rare VJ song that is seldom heard (Neel, kaadhai konjam indha pakkam saaikkavum! :-) is the unusual VJ solo from Avan Aval Adhu:
"Aathoram Kodiveedu Adhan Mele Gopalan Avanodu Naan Aaduvaen"
A different VJ-MSV offering. Has anyone else heard this song? Remarks?

Thanks NeelD for the "Engirundho oru kual vandhadhu" song. One of my favorites...
Is this the only song that VJ sang for JJ?

NeelD,
Just a small suggestion. Why don't you name the duets sections as VJ & SPB, VJ& KJY etc instead of Tamil Duets 1, Tamil Duets 2 etc.. I see that you are already doing the classification but if the same is also changed appropriately it will be easier.
(Your site is like a DB for VJ songs!!! Keep it up!!!)
Thanks

YVSMani, would you kindly send me an email. Aaniver will be coming to you in a few days.
Vengayam, I do not have Vendum Vendum at the moment. Some day down the road may be. I have some randomly recorded audio tapes. I may find it in it if I am lucky.
Priya, I was wondering why no one said anything about "engirundho oru kural". One of my favorites too. I will try to implement your suggestion about the links.
Naaz, "Aathoram kodi veedu" is a wonderful song. Many of MSV's songs from around that time got zero air time and the songs just disappeared. It is so hard to find a good recording of those songs now. "en ullam" viraivil varum.
Saravanan, you are welcome. Keep those backgroud stories and statistics coming.

Naaz/Neel,
I am humming 'Aathoram kodi veedu' to myself-'Aadamal asaiyaamal ananda layathodu' (I hope!). Thank you so much for reminding me of this song. The slokas in between were rendered by someone called Krishnan. Avan Aval Athu (1980), based on Sivashankari's story was directed by Muktha Srinivasan. VJ had two other duets in the same film- each one enchanting in its own way- Illam Sangeetham- SPB-VJ-picturised on Sivakumar and Lakshmi-where Kannadasan played with their names- SPB says 'Lakshmi vandhaalaam--', to which VJ responds'Sivanum vandhaanaam, angey Kumaran vandhaanaam'!, and the other duet being the unforgettable TL Maharajan-VJ number 'Maargazhi Pookaley'(Siva-Sripriya)
Naaz, your reference to'Thangathil mugameduthu' set me thinking about VJ's unique record in Meenava Nanban (1977). I don't think any other female singer in tfm had, in a single film, sung 3 duets with 3 different male singers. VJ not only achieved this, but had a spellbinding solo as well. 'Thangathil mugameduthu' with KJY, 'Neram pournami neram' with SPB, 'Kannazhagu singarikku' with TMS and the timeless masterpiece solo 'Pongum kadalosai'.
Priya, besides 'Engirundho oru kural' VJ has sung another wonderful song for JJ- 'Sippiyile Muthu athu sippikkenna sondham'- Anbai Thedi(1974).

NeelD: just now sent an email to u. Thanks for aaniver.
There is a duet by PJ * VJ in velicham which goes like this,
oh my dear, i love u.
intha paadal irukka???
- From: Saravanan (@ 195.229.241.245)
on: Wed Jul 17 01:29:32 EDT 2002
yvs mani, that song from Velicham was sung by 3 people- VJ, PJ and I think Surender. It was a fantasy song, both Karthik and Nizhalgal Ravi imagine themselves singing with Ranjini. Karthik sings the English lines- Surendar, I think with VJ for Ranjini. N Ravi sings the tamil half (PJ with VJ). A very different song by Manoj-Gyan.

Saravanan/Priya, there is "mazaikkAlam varuginRathu" from Paattum Baharathamum. I am not sure if JJ sings it in the movie.
G.Ragavan, please go to Tamil Duets 3 Page 2 of http://www.vanijayaram.com It is the first song.

NeelD,
You are right. VJ sings for JJ in Paattum Baharathamum. I saw that movie. JJ gives a dance performance singing that song...
Saravanan I have not heard that Anbai Thaedi song though...

Just heard Mazhaikalamum Panikkalamum Sugamanavai From Savithiri. Spellbinding. Made me think of the solo Vazhndhaal Unnodu Vazhndhiruppaen...
And if, somehow, that is construed to be an indirect request, here's a real one to keep solo Savithiri company, Neel -
Idhu Undhan Veetu Kili Thaan - from Shankar Salim Simon.
Saravanan -
Pongum Kadalosai is a classic. You can listen to a songs like that all day...
Priya -
Anbai Thedi was a nightmare of a movie. It had one of those annoyingly precocious child-stars Baby Rani or what is Indira? and the plot was about a naive (yet again,) Sivaji and his noble hallucinations...He gets to play Buddha in one episode. Enough to make one laugh all the way to Bhodi Gaya! :-)
I remember the song Saravanan mentions, but I don't recall too much about its picturisation. MSV-VJ have had better songs than that together for sure.

Iam just listening to the swarnakamlam song-what a ghambeeramana rendition by both VJ and SPB. Her opening is stunning-even the picturisation of the song was fabulous.
another great VJ-KJY duet was in the film Maduraiyai meetiya sunderapandiyan-the song Thendralil addum-
In the movie Mullum malarum I wished that VJ sang the adi penne-the one sung by jency but still vani's Nittam nittam nellu choru was simply great-she beautifully conveyed the enthusiasm shown by the actress fatafat jayalakshmi towards food.
another great solo by VJ was the Yaaradhu sollamal nenjallipovathu - Neel it will be great if you could download this song.
I always get goosebumps when I hear this song.
Now iam listening to idayam pesinaal-from amarakaviyam-incidentally this also happens to be one of VJ's favourites. She had mentioned in of her interviews (eons back) that she felt sad that this song didn't gain enough popularity

Another song again a great solo-chandira pirai parthen-one of the longest songs in TFM -Neel it will be great if you could down load this song.
Neel -I really can't thank enough for making my day -listening to VJ's songs as iam working in the lab-its so soothing
