Hi all,
I just surfed thro' the net and happened to see the profile of PS. She was heralded as the "Lata Mangeshkar" of TFM. Does she deserve that crown more than SJ and Chithra?

Aruvi:
I wasn't joking ! I really feel SPB and SJ make the best singing pair. There must be some logic to it, otherwise IR wouldn't have used them so much ! I think they complement each others' expressions very well. BTW, I did put the smileys in so people wouldn't go hammer and tongs at me for eulogizing SJ ! I treat the entire discussion lightly :-)

aruvi!
Being a great admirer of SPB-SJ-IR combo, I want to strongly refute your claim that `a no. of songs' from this combo had mukkal-munagals.. fact is far from it! There may be a few, but it will be below 1%:-) (Take popular mukkal songs from the post Moondram pirai days, they were mainly involving SJ and not SPB; the famous `ponmEni' is a SJ solo; `nilA kayudhu' is MV/SJ; `vA mAmA' is a SJ solo...where's SPB here)
All of us have our own share of mistakes, is it not? But ultimately, one is labeled based on his behaviour `most of the time' and not on `occasional blunders' alone:-)

aruvi ,
<< I cann't TMS's voice >>
i think what you are lacking is exposure. Before you come to conclusion , you must listen to his glodies like 'kalviya selvama vIrama', 'mAthavip poN mayilAL' , 'pAttum nAne bhAvamum nAnE', 'kallellAm mAnikka kallAgumA' etc. (the list is endless , i can go on and on ... ). In spite of being an ardent SPB fan, i can say with strong convictions that it will be of arduous toil for SPB to bring out that grandeur in expressions if he is asked to render that number. AM Raja, KJY , PBS and others can close their eyes and pray for next jenma, with due respect. Every singer has got uniqueness and limitations, even SPB is no exception. So , even if they were to express your personal taste, TONE IT DOWN! konjam adakki vAsi..

<< Rameshb thaan PS nalla paadirukkaangannu sonnaar >>
PS has indeed has done well with controlled expressions without going over-board, a hallmark of PS. One doesn't have to artificially bring out a laughter to prove she/he is expressing well, unless the lyrics or the situation warranted for. In fact that particular song had neither of it, and SPB's laughter sounds just 'inserted' to the producers plea to IR in those days balu-va konjam sirikka sollunga (esp. for kamal/rajini songs)

producers plea to IR in those days balu-va konjam sirikka sollunga
SPB paatukku thaan ivvalavu demand-nnu ninaichen, aana avar sirippukkuma ? :-) SPB-kku sirikka sollaradhu is like poonaiya paal kudikka sollaradhu !!! Idha yaaravadhu request vera pannanuma ? :-) Eppadiyo ponga rameshb, andha oru sirippula SPB poga, IR poga producers oda mentality-a kooda ippadi purinju vachchirukkeenga :-)) Just kidding ! But the level of emotions and whether they are controlled or not are subjective. I felt PS was underwhelming, you felt SPB was overwhelming. Let's agree to disagree :-) My basic point was that SPB and SJ are birds of a feather when it comes to emoting in a song.

rameshb,
Was there any doubt about TMS's ability of singing? I did not degrade his singing. I just said 'I can't stand his voice'. What's wrong with that? Many people here have expressed the same about other singers. If I had brought down his singing talent, that is debatable, but as I did not, you can come to your own conclusions, I believe.

aruvi,
you may have your opinions based on your personal taste. But that does not give you exclusive rights to make afflicting remarks under the pretext of "expressing your taste" as if there was gravely problem with TMS's voice. What did you find wrong with his voice that you cann't stand it?

rameshb,
i dont see any reason why u are so upset about the fact that aruvi does'nt like TMS's voice. is it because u are a great fan of TMS? I have expresses greater displeasure over Hariharan's voice many times in this forum and i have not received any replies like this yet. i dont think aruvi or for that matter any one needs to clarify why they didnt like a particular singer's voice unless otherwise they want to do so in the first place. I can say IRs present songs sound like trash without bothering to explain why. If everything has to be written with an objective frame of mind then there is no point having a TFMDF.

I atleast had the courtesy to address u by your name but lokks like u dont even have that. And by the way, u are NOBODY to ask anyone to shut up here. if u cant explain your case with valid, sensible points and all u can do is shout and ask other people to shut up then i cant help but pity your pathetic state of affairs.

rameshb,
The kind of posters like you who keep barking at everyone who does'nt share the same opinion as you is exactly what the forum can do without. Instead of trying to understand the difference between subjectivity and artiste-bashing, you seem to use indulge in abusive language here.
I think your posting above applies to you more than it does for anyone else.

And by the way there is nothing like 'intruding here'. Iam surprised that in spite of being here for months rameshb does'nt understand that this is not a private one-on-one chat that he is carrying on with Aruvi into which no one should intrude!! This is a damn public discussion forum where anyone can come and post anything related to TFM without losing their head like our friend ramesh did.

rameshb,
So what if someone thinks TMS or anyone for that matter does'nt suit his/her taste ? Who are you to question that ? No one is asking you not to listen to TMS or anyone. Even if you are unable to comprehend someone else's taste, there are ways to express your point of view.
In this whole thread, we have seen people argue back and forth about their favourite singer, vis-a-vis SJ, PS or KSC. A common point of agreement will never be reached, but yet the sheer points that people put forth to highlight the plus and minus points of a singer alone make for interesting reading.
Hope you maintain that spirit too.

To everyone else,
On a lighter note, ingeeppa's, can someone please tell me how to make italics text when writing. If not, I am threatening to post in all capitals, thanks-maas:-)
- From: Bug (@ goliath5.primary-server.net)
on: Tue Jun 27 23:37:11 EDT 2000
Aruvi,
to write in italics you have to use these meta tags.
(i)....some sentences/words.....(/i)
(i) is the opening meta tag--saying that the sentences should be in italics. while
(/i) is the closing the meta tag telling that italics is done and no more. :-)
make sure you use the pointed brackets (inbetween letter M and question mark keys) in your key board instead of the above curved brackets.
