IR GETS LATHA MANKESHKAR AWARD !

today's dinakaran has this info.
IR gets Lathamankeshkar award given by MP state govt.

  How can anyone forget 'Valaiosai kala kala', sung by Latha Mangeshkar, the pride of our nation. You can never get such compositions from IR now!
  
  Though she is old, she still respects tamil film musicians from yester years till date. This is evident in her biography released in Mumbai, which gives instances as her days in Madras when she had lunch with Sivaji family, her appreciation to Sirkazhi Govindarajan after listening him singing 'Odum Nadhiyinile", the appreciation from Kannadasan etc.

  Lata Mangeshkar should get IR award. Then only it will glorify IR.

  We have IR award in our Inter-College Competition "Festember", REC Trichy. Its the highest honor award which will be awarded to the College who won First prize in over all performance.

  Sirkazhi Govindarajan considers that appriciation from lata as the happiest moment of his life.

  IR is a genius. But India has many music directors that are equally good. Not only in the south, but also in the north. But singers of Lata's callibre are rare- Asha and PS. So giving an IR award to Lata is bit of an anomaly.

  that's all subjective, dosth !!
  To me SDB, RDB, Salilda are nowhere near Raja
  when it comes to give a "complete" song...rich in
  all possible ways (u may argue, SDB's melodies are
  incomparable....why u, i feel salilda's tunes were
  better than Raja but overall, Raja betters everyone...ALL IMVHO)

  IR is one of the greatest-No doubts.
  But SD,RD ...etc have covered a wider territory than Raja and were much better.(Except Carnatic off-course)
  IR excels in one thing more than those MDs and that is BGM.He stands apart in that.

  "jiya jale" was bad. LM is/was great - that doesn't mean that she is beyond criticism and all the songs she sang were perfect. I'm with :-) when he says "nenjinilE" was much tolerable than "jiya jale". IMO, savukkadi singAram is right - LM should get IR award - that is the best way to honor both IR and LM.

  Stop saying things like 'vomitting'. You have no right to say this. Lata started singing in the late 30's. She is much older than S Janaki. So we cant really compare. Many many classical singers , in the north as well as the south call Lata the ultimate manifetsation of the musical note. She was the undisputed favourite of many many music directors. Its true that of late she has lost her glorious voice. But this can be mentioned more gracefully, not by using obscene words.
  she is called the nightingale of India and has received the BharatRatna. When she performed at the Royal Albert Hall of London, she got several encores from an audience comprising of Britishers as well as Indians. the range of her voice goes far beyond 3 octaves. Inspite of being a Marathi speaking person, she perfected her Urdu to such an extent that her Urdu diction is considered better than many Muslim Singers of her time.
  Many people dont know, but LATA HAS SUNG SEVERAL songs that you would now call POP. In some of them she has yoddled, sizzled , everything that people say she cant do.
  She has done many of them with Shankar Jaikishen and Salil C.
  Some even with RD Burman. She worked for a short time with Illiyaraja, who himself calls it a great experience. At the same time, she has sung several ghazals, bhajans, classical based songs.
  She has covered almost all factes of playback singing, and is worthy of veneration. Listen to her 'Vande Mataram' from AnandMath (1954).
  And at the age of 62 she sang those magical songs of Lekin.
  Which other perosn could have sung that to such perfection? In fact she has elevated several songs to a great plane by her magical voice.
  There are some songs which Lata has sung in the happy AND sad mood. Surprisingly the speed of the song, the orchestration has been the same in both cases. Its just her ability of conveying rich emotions by changing her style of pronounciation, and by voice modulation.
  
  IR was Salil Chaudhary's assistant. IR is a real legend, but RDB,SDB,Salil,Madan Mohan, MS vishwanathan, ARR, Roshan,Naushad, VR were equally good.
  So the statement that Lata should get IR award is pretty unfair!

  S Jananki's version of Jiya Jale was almost as bad as Lata's considering the fact that Lata is much much older.

  Naming the award after a person who is alive, is not necessarily a great idea. That too, to present to somebody who have worked together. MP govt needs to be little bit more sensitive.. They should just give this award to singers and not cross area of expertise. Do you think some physicist or chemist can be given a Lata Mangeshkar award ?

  once i attended k.aa.pe. viswanatham's lecture, somewhere in bangalore. he was 90. he accused state governments entitling "awards" or "honors" or "similar due respects" to achievers only after they are deceased. he said the honor should be while they are alive, so that achievers feel happy about it.   But Lata's is not a normal case.
  She has shaped and defined the indian music.
  I dont expect someone who doesnt know hindi
  and wouldnt have listened to old hindi compositions to agree. But anyone who has followed
  hindi music knows that Lata stands supreme and as a bench mark.She influences millions of listeners.
  Any appreciation to her is less.

  IMHO it is extreme height of stupidity to compare LM and IR. Both are geniuses in their own fields. You cannot take away the music in a melodious voice as you can't voice from music. They are interdependent. There was time when SPB was compared with IR's greatness. The same now goes with LM. Playback singing and music composing are two distinct fields. Please stop doing this nonsense anymore. Nobody can compare any playback singer with the cuckoo like voice of LM and so can they do the same with IR's VERSATALITY. This is a pertinent problem with most of the people - Duality in each and everything.

  Yes, it was sponsored by IR when he was invited to be a judge for Light music Competition, He gave this shield to who won first prize. Since this shield is more bigger than overall shield, our college people decided to give this shield to overall performance.
