Prodigy of 90's? Yeah, now that the 90's are beside us, time for him to pack up?
If market research had removed the sleeve notes and did a pre-market test on the Minnale album, i bet 8 out of 10 would've come up with ARR's name as the MD, Harris Jeyaraj bless the chap. So much for the impregnable fortress that is ARR's style. Can you think of a similar result for any of IR's films? From Anand Milind to Deva, a succession of MDs have tried imitating the IR brand, no luck yet into the 3rd decade.
And, pray, just as you so nonchalantly dump IR's albums in the mediocre tray, why is it so difficult for you to accept that within your prodigy's limited ouevre, there are a sizeable no. of mediocre albums (padayappa, muthu, thenali, to name a few...)?
And, friend, where was your anguished cry when the likes of Kushi and Tenaali were ahead of Bharathi in the top 10 charts? Were you brooding then at the degenerate state of TFM, or were you too lost tangoing to the strains of Macarena?
All the glitter that surrounds the IR family? Excuse me, was that made seriously, in this age of ARR-hype? You really are into an ARR spell, aren't you?

Travis:
Yes, if that day comes when arr is grounded by ysr, kr, deva and the rest, i will be a fan of anu malik.
I know you won't reply but I just wanted to remind you that ARR's favorite song recently was "karuppu thAn enakku pidichcha coloru". That is scored by our beloved MD, Deva. So instead of going to anu malik, you can follow ARR by appreciating Deva's muzik...

Dear Suresh,
If Bharati was enchanting to you, I understand. But the same need not go for me. I never thought it was that great as I have mentioned in other thread... People are mesmerised by Hey Ram and Bharati and every magazine I get my hands on go overboard..I wasnt catatonic at that time. Bharati was good but were few others. But, speaking of tenali which most of u claim mediocre, if u have read the same magazines or web-sites of class, they dont fail to mention that tenali is medicore BY arr standards.... If u say we need to get over with rahman of the 90's then what about raja? isnt he Ancient in the same standards? Also i personally feel Kushi, though by Deva had a youthful feel to it... The songs may not be class to you..
Yes, I restate, the glitter surrounds raja family. All the clout is like, what surrounds the Nehru family (this is my personal opinion and i need not get into political arguments.. and please dont try to enlighten with me Nehru family values and others as I am politically incorrect.)
Harris Jeyaraj 's making music like arr? so tried ranjit barot, where is he? But I do agree minnale is indeed a class apart... But we will have to wait and see whether it was a one-movie flick or he is made of the stuff...
and ifhe makes good music , I will appreciate it and not criticise without reason... Again, Dheena (IMHO),is much much inferior to parthen rasithen or minnale...

few things i failed to elaborate... when i said we get over with raja, it was a comparison for a post claims rahma of 90s should go home...
yes, to what do u say, I also like karuppu thaan enakku pudicha kalaru.. though the lyrics maybe a bit too much, the song is good. I also like a lot fo deva's songs... including, megham karukkuthu in kushi and idam tharuvaya and ninaithal in appu. Deva is not that bad, but isnot extar ordinary, and he has his own list of excellent tunes(though i am not sure were his own!)
I am a music fan first and then a fan of arr... if the music is good, and i like it, i will of course appreciate it and again, will not close my ears just bcoz it was made by harris or ysr or kr or whoever. of all people, SAR 's chinna chinna in ennavale is also one my favs... (ok, that maybe coz of SPB!!)
And i compare (and ask u to do also)dheena with parthen rasithen and minnale (plz dont jump into the conclusion i consider tenali medicore!!! please), becoz they are also by new music directors (ok, bharadwaj is relatively new or have not done much) and did not want more ir-puranams and how he is blah blah over arr.

What I am failing to understand here is why you are all insisting on comparing Yuvan to other MD's. We should just be giving our opinions on the music of Dheena and not saying that other MD's are better so therefore we should not give Dheena any praise. If you want to do a comparison thread, open up a new one elsewhere. Those of us who come to see a genuine review of Dheena are having to scroll through numerous pages of insults and comparisons to find something even remotely related to the topic. Lets stop all this jealousy. We are all mature enough to appreciate every MD for their contribution to TFM, so why are we not treating YSR and KR with the same regard? I think it's about time we stopped discussing their father as a main contributing factor to their music. Sure, it is due to being IR's kids that they got their breaks, but thats probably where the link stops I believe. Ysr's music is nothing like IR's. In' fact I can't say that it is like any other MD's. Give the guy some credit.

I don't remeber who .. but one HCIRF in an old thread was telling about how he thought Roja was composed by IR until he saw the cassette sleeve :)

maybe becoz the movie was by manirathnam , who did not use anyone else beside IR till then.

Madhav,
I think YSR will be doing very well commercially. But music wise it is very difficult to do justice to his father. But since he is very young, we should wait for him to grow more.

Travis,
Why do you insist on posting' ARR is better' in every thread that has no relevance to ARR?
Is it you insecurity?

Dheena BGM:
The best that can be said about BGM is Average.. The songs were poorly picturized too...
Digression:
Seeing a Tamil film after a long time (Saw Friends together with this movie), makes me wonder that we haven't evolved in the past years.. It looked like a 70s movie with costumes being the only change!

I too saw Dheena and Friends. I was sorely disappointed with the movie Friends. The only reason for me staying in my seat was the music. However, I quite enjoyed the film Dheena. I believe the music was very well presented, although some scenes didn't do the music justice. I thouroughly enjoyed Dheena, but if given a choice, would prefer to listen to the cd at home.YSR has done a great job.

I liked Dheena songs..
particularly "Sollamal Thottu" and
"Nee Illai Endraal". Both are good.
In "Sollamal Thottu" hariharan clearly
shows his limitations.. he is struggling
hard to touch the upper scale..but still
the song is good..

In Dheena, the song Kathal Website is wonderful. It is fresh and youthful and full of life. I also particularly enjoyed Sollama Thottu, but I expected the picturisation in the movie to show more pain as the sone shows it. All other songs are very good also , but These two stuck out for me. I can't wait to hear Thulluvatho Ilamai by YSR. Yuvan is really doing well.

MADHAV, PRABHU IYER&SURESH
PLS. don't disscuss with people WHO DONT'T KNOW TO REAALY APPRECIATE music and ANALYSE 'music'.(You see their standard of comparing IR with DEVA .)
Pls.refer director FAHZIL'S interview"there is a difference between drunkard and a meditater"This was the answer for the question why he is not putting ARR for his movies.
This drunkards would only like repeated tunes and the REMIXINGS of the sound engineer ARR.
Just one song 'THAVIKKIREN'from Time or'ORU NAAL'from Devadhai will kick out all 90's songs of ARR .

What about 1000s of south indian folks that IR has lifted. He is said to be master of folk songs.
Shun such cheap useless examples.
