hihi,
Don't stop on my account. I'm ever the proponent of alternatives, you think I'm going to be satisfied with just my version? I'm eager to see what theme you come up with, and I'm sure others do too. Get going and finish your lyrics. The time taken to produce arts never matters.

Hello Divakar,
I am new here but i have been a silent listener for quite sometime now. I felt compelled to respond to your question about why the public access feature is not working because this happened to me with my yahoo briefcase account. Once i moved to the paid upgrade service, it allowed me to grant public access. Till then, only yahoo members were able to access it.I think that is what is happening in your case too. Anyway, please doublecheck this info.

Really very nice. Though I could not spot a clear cut tune, I guess you intended to sound like an aalaap. You play the acoustic guitar very well. I could hear some occassional deviations from the raga in some places. I hope they are for embellishments. Keep up the good work.

Divakar and other musicians here:
This raga and divakar's free style performance is so inspiring...that I captured instantaneously ( so that I don't loose the spirit ) my spontaneous appreciation as a composition...
To be context independent, I will attribute this as my appreciation and salute to all the good music that I heard in Hamsadhwani...
Here you go...hope you like it.

MS and Aditya,
Thanks for the comments.
MS, I have deviated from the raaga Hamsadhwani near the end....I have used with respect to this raaga both F (Shuddha Madyamam) and A Flat(Shudda Dhanyam I guess)...it just happened with the flow
when I did the playback it sounded really well so I didnt change them
Thanks

NataBhairavi it is....Aditya you impress me man!
BTW what is Nadopasana?
this whole tune just flashed on me and I had to write in keyboard immediately and then strumming in Guitar was easy. it mainly uses Chords
C Major (Power CHord) and Chord Ab Major(Power chord)

Divakar,
It was like listening to a Raag Alaap. I liked your way of playing the acoustic guitar. I was surprised that you could sustain many notes on a nylon string (Did you use a classical guitar?). I felt it would have been much better if you had strummed the chord in the pauses instead of playing the keyboard.
I am surprised at the quality of your recording. It sounds very good to me. What kind of a set up do you use ?

Da Vinci,
I am glad you asked that question. The trick when it comes to sustaining, not just acoustic guitar but works for flute and sax is how do you set the reverberation in the final mix. The key is reverb! Infact the notes are not sustained that long as it appears, even a steel-wound would be difficult when you move on the fret quickly and sustain as well...but that effect could be brought by setting the reverb parameters and listening to the o/p of the sound. ofcourse the recording itself takes more than a trial and error to make sure the final mix sounds good with out too much noise. Too much reverb can spoil the recording as well, I have had flute sounds sustained for long enough, it turns in to a jarring whistle at the end of that note, i had to reduce the reverberation parameters.

Another sample on the dist electric guitar. Please note the sustain is achieved by means of feedback loops between amp and the guitar.
The composition is based on the scale HINDHOLAM.

Divakar,
That was a nice link. Thank You. I have rarely been impressed by an acoustic guitar sounding so nice and clear to me as your Hamsadvani piece. I was very much impressed by Eric Clapton's album 'Unplugged' (it is fully acoustic) and the quality of the recording of your piece is certainly impressive by that standard (if not for the little scratchy sound of your fingers on the fret board).

Dbhowman: Looks like you did not get the meaning of Nadopasana. It is a Sanskrit word made up of 'Nada' and 'Upasana'. Nada means sound. Upasana means worship, devotion, meditation or practice. Aditya probably meant 'worship of/through music' or 'devotion to/through music'.
There is a music sabha in Madras called 'Nadopasana', I think.

Hello Friends:
This is regarding my DejaVu Song...
I published http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Vijayaditya/DejaVu.mp3
Some of you expressed your appreciation by posting in the forum and some via e-mail.
Sridhar and others have suggested to add vocals to this song. Udhaya immediately penned the lyrics...Udhaya thanks for the lyrics...
and I was overwhelming on how to execute this song...
Radhika Krishnan who is a singer approached me and offered to sing the song in order to give me a better idea as to how the song sounds with the lyrics. I didn't assume anything about her skills and said yes. I am glad that I agreed
with her offer. We had about 3 sittings ( exchanging vocal clips over net )....
This is where we're right now...listen here...
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/radhikrish
go to MySongs folder and then to Samples folder to listen the latest vocal sample.
Please provide your opinions.
Thanks to Radhika Krishnan for her patience, perseverance and offer. I am encouraged to record few songs with her in future.
You could listen to Radhika's other film samples over there and provide some valuable inputs.
I wish her good future and welcome her into this wonderful thread to participate more actively.
Regards,
Aditya

Aditya,
Radhika's voice sounds young and fresh. I adore the way she spins the word "vaeLai" in the first line. It adds a lot to the song. The second line, especially the "vaa ingae" part sounded faster to me when I heard the instrumental, at least I envisioned it that way. Just something to think about. Adding vocals always slows the song down, but try picking up the pace a little and you might get a different effect altogether. I'm just suggesting alternatives to experiment. You and Radhika are the musicians, you know better.
Now, I goofed on my transliteration in two words I think. Please, change them this way:
"poar vaanil saayndha maegam"
should actually be,
"poar vaanil saantha maegam" as in, "peaceful cloud on the war-torn sky". As it is, it would mean "saayndha" as in, "peaceful cloud leans on a war-torn sky". Actually this is kind of abstract and poetic too, but the original meaning is clearer.
Another lyric goof is my typing, "pragaasikkithae" instead of "pragaasikkuthae". The meaning really doesn't change, but the "ku" sound, suits my ears better somehow. Other Thamizhs can weigh in on these things too.
Other than these, the song sounds wonderful. Personally, this is the best use of the internet for me. In the future, if you guys don't want this kind of detailed analysis on the lyrics here, let me know and I'll take it to e-mails. I just wanted to share how a writer collaborates with a composer and singer since some of the musicians and singers here probably haven't done this before.
