Hello Divakar:
Welcome to this thread. Please check that it's not somehow easy to download this audio.
If you would like to improvise this first attempt into a serious work...I sincerely suggest that you should rework/improvise boldly on Kedaram Scale. In case you don't want to follow any scale structure...take out nice rules of scale patterns from kedaram, nalinakanthi, behag etc., to make up your own creative work...
Good wishes and make a bold attempt and looking forward sooner for such an attempt. From this first attempt, I believe you can present a more serious work.
Regards,
Aditya

Did anyone listen to the song in the Yahoo group Creativesongwriting? What do you guys feel? I wanna know if I could improve upon any of my recording pieces and how well the instruments blends in with one another....Any suggestions, comments are more than welcome....
TO ANSWER DA VINCI's QUESTION:
Yes infact you can get much more that what keyboards offer you....but as a starter try Yamaha XG SOFT SYNTHESIZER S-YXG50(I guess they offer a trial for a month or so)...All you got to do is load your midi in to the XG player which comes it with a bunch of instruments on its own sounding more real those ordinary music keyboards...
Alternatively if you have SB live sound cards you could load PREMIUM SOUNDFONTS and play your midi....but that in itself is a separate topic.....if you want more info on this or other Questions on synthesizers etc...lemme know...
Thanks! Appreciate it!

I did listen...look for my comments prior to your message. Sorry I didn't know you were looking for suggestions on recording and instruments...

Dbhowman,
What a name ! :)
Thank You for your reply. I bought a Yamaha PSR 540 and was playing around with it. It has rich sounds but when I want to move it into a PC for working with a Cakewalk sequencer to mix with vocals, I lose the charm of the rich sounds I got from the online keyboard sequencer.
I dont know what you mean by premium soundsfonts. I would like to know any related details from you. Please let me know when you have time for it.
Thank You.
By the bye, your song in the folder you have mentioned in your earlier mail is not accessible. Please make it accessible so that we can listen to it for giving you comments on it.
Thank You.

To Aditya,
First things first: Thanks very much for listening to that song...appreciate it!
How do I make that group open to all so that anybody could download songs atleast without having to register to that group. I tried changing some group settings but to no avail.
Also I built that song on the scale (C, D, F#, G, B, C') which is Hamsanandham scale but I have introduced my own color to that song, so doesnt exactly fit that raga though....in case you want the notes or midi file I would be glad to send you that....
Once again thanks...
I will upload some of my other work in based on some carnatic ragas...
Thanks

Swamiji,
Thank You. I just now saw your reply. I explained my issue related to your suggestion 'You can record the audio from the keyboard into the PC...' in my earlier reply.
I believe the sound card in the PC doesnt reproduce many of the subtle sounds of the keyboard. That is where I am concerned with.

Dbhowman,
If you created that yahoogroup (or an administrator of that group), I believe you could do it. There must be a link for "Management" of the list. You could find how you could fix it there.

Divakar:
Yes I did get your point...somehow my ear counted G as the root note of this scale...and formulated as the following "G B C D F# G" to be the right scale...in fact at some places to simulate gamakam on flute -> performed bend has created an illusion to ear that it was probably some accidental note touched occasionally...although i couldn't quickly guage that note.
So I thought adjusting my illusion of that note to note A shall bring up the following scale beauty...which means
G B C D F# G
G F# D C B A G
That's why Kedaram...This is just a suggestion...
Looking forward to your other works...

Aditya

Got ya! I opened the file section to public now...
The URL is

TO Da VINCI:
Did you try the S-YXG50 player first?
Ok I can help you here...follow this link
http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/midplug/m_syg50a.htm
What cakewalk sequencer are you using PRO AUDIO, HOME STUDIO or SONAR...

Aditya,
You are good! though the scale is C,D,F#,G, B,C' I HAVE used G as the root note! so it is not Hamsanandham, its a transposed scale of kedharam!!!
but it closely resembles one of Kedharam or Behag(ofocurse behag uses A as well) which uses the notes C,E,F,G,B, C though in different patterns....A simple transposition of my composition from G to C will bring it to fit to the notes....so evidently the points you pointed out are true as well.....
YOu have a good EAR for music!!!!
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!
BOTTOM LINE: did you like what you hear?
Thanks

Divakar,
It is easier to call (spell) you with your first name.
I downloaded the S-YXG50 player and it was cool. I had the MIDI file in my PC at work and I heard it reproducing the exact sound of my keyboard. But I still have the question hanging ! Suppose I use my Cakewalk (express) in my PC to mix the vocals with the MIDI, in what way could this S-YXG50 player help me ?

Da VInci,
here's the thing....The moment you introduce vocals you are going out of the MIDI realm and entering the Digital Audio. So essentially if you want the end result of your effort to have vocals embedded its got to be in one of the digital audio format(WAV, MP3, RAM, RA...). Of course with Cakewalk you could do that...
Remember though, XG player you have downloaded is not just a player perse but comes with set of XG50 drivers that if you have properly installed will automatically show up in cakewalk. So far (I guess) in cakewalk you would have used the Ouput of the Midi tracks to either your inbuilt sound card driver or your YAMAHA 540, now all you got do is pull up the S-YXG50 driver from cakewalk and you get the Midi sounds playing from XG50 and still have your vocals in cakewalk. You can record them both from the sound card and export them as mp3 or WAV file.

Divakar,
I understand what you mean. I will try it with my Cakewalk sequencer at home. Thank You. It has been a great help to me.
I could finally listen to your piece. The sound was very rich and you have deftly handled your keyboard that at a few places I had to remind myself that it was only a keyboard and not a real flute (it also sounded like a slide guitar in a few places). I felt that the santoor effect of whatever instrument you had sounded a little off key or rather out of place. It sounded more western to me (probably because of the harmony) in spite of the classical raga base you seem to have developed it from.
Bottomline: It was a pleasant piece of music to hear :)

Divakar,
I liked your song and I am looking forward to listen more from you...I suggested that you should boldly improvise the melody in Kedaram...I am sure you can do it.
As the context is similar for composing in the same scale, I would like all of us to read how another composer:-)) elevated the beauty of melody in this scale...it'll be the same phenomenon...first time when I heard this song, for a moment I thought it's Jaganmohini raga...but fault is with the way that I started listening the song. I started the song with female voice and you know what it leads to:-))

Looking forward for more from you.

thanks for all the comments and suggestions Appreciate it!! Thanks ADITYA and DA VINCI especially for those kind words!I will work on those improvizations..
I am uploading my next composition the lead is Acoustic Guitar based on scale Hamsadhwani ..
Its positively one of my first compositions. I should say I have a soft spot for this scale. I have done more than 6 compositions in this scale. Isnt hamsadhwani a pleasant Raga?!
I am looking for comments and suggesstion once again....I really thank you taking the time and coming back with great suggesstions!
HEre's the link everybody!
