Rajesh, you are right. IR is a great fan of SDB. 'Naan pesa vanthen sollathan or vaathai illai' by SPB and SJ is a copy from SBD's interlude music in the song 'Badi sooni sooni Hai' sung by KK in 'Mili'. In fact you will find IR using lots of SDB's musical interludes pieces in his own interludes. One example that springs to mind is the santoor piece in 'Ab tho hai tumse' in Abhimaan that was copied in IR's 'Thenil Aadum roja' sung by PS. SDB's typical bongo beats (listen to the bongo beats in Khilthe hain gul yahaan sung by KK esp. when he hums) were also copied by IR. IR's vaagai nathi oram from 'Rickshaw mama' was a straight lift (atleast the Pallavi) from Naushad's "Chod babul ka ghar' sung by Shamshad Begum.
MSV's 'Vanthavargal vaazhga' in (engiruntho vanthaal) and 'Naatukkulle enakkoru'in Billa have their origin in Naushad's 'Nain lad jaye' from Ram aur Shyam , sung by Rafi.
KVM's mannan thiru meni from subadinam sung Balamurali Krishna and PS certainly (atleast in the Pallavi portion) sounds very similar to Madan Mohan's 'Wo Chup rahe' from "Adalat" sun by Lata.I guess it qualifies to be called a copy.

Hope all have heard "Snam Theri Kasam" from the the movienamed the same. It is a KH starrer. The concluding violin piece matches with the first two lines of "Seer Kondu Vaa en devanae". Only this, and the song to a different direction then.

FOR THOSE WHO ACCUSED IR FOR COPYING BONEYM,
There was an interview of SPB published in Kungumam (the cover has Bala's foto). The interviewer had asked SPB about his opinion on the the copying trend among the MDs including IR (the example given was Darling ,darling from priya)
the answer given by Bala was that people shud not accuse a composer like IR for copying.
It seems IR was forced by the Director to compose the song that way (similar to Kanavu kaanum).
these are the words of SPB. If u guys don't believe me, spend Rs 3.00 check and for urself.

Listened to "Vaali", a deva album. The song "Sona Sona" is imported from "Suzzana suzzana" by ABBA.I did'nt listen to it completely as it was disgusting.Deva in full form.
PS:This album had a lot of expectations and was proclaimed as Deva's ultimate truimph.

Guys, when you hear a Deva song have you ever felt that you have heard a similar song before but you are unable to pin-point? The reason is he is a master at combining several songs. One primary example is the song Khushboo sings in front of a Murugan idol in a Visu film. The pallavi of the song uses the same metre as IR's "Amma endrazhaikkatha" and the anu pallavi is lifted from MSV's "Aaandavane un pathangalai" from 'Oli vilakku' esp when Chitra sings the line 'Murugayya'. I am unable to remember the wordings of a song that had a mix of KVM's "pothigai malai uchiyile" and MSV's "Kangale kaathal seivathai". I think it will be interesting to list songs that fall under this category.

in jest:
when MSV/IR/ARR resembles some other song, its a request by the director.
when dEva doesnt resemble anybody, its an enforcement by the director

Hi,
We cave been screaming our heads off that Deva has copied the theme music from Gupt (That sound which comes in every song) in Priyamudan(Pooja Vaa) .But the truth is it was copied in Gupt from ARR's "Love Birds" (Song : No Problem) .It is a pity for Deva that someone beat him to suttufying a song. The song was not a hit becos the film was a Boooooooom (It bombed)

Dear fans,
We had been discussing lifts from the streams of music other than tfm. why not let us discuss those songs which were copied from tfm ? Another information I want to know: Is there any western song that has used the tune of tfm ? Please clarify.
Regards

While talking about songs copied into tfm, if you look at this discussion it would have mostly centered around Deva. For songs copied fro TFM, I think we can fairly safely center it around Anu Malik, although Jatin-Lalit and even Anand-Milind are not very far behind.
Let me start off with "Virasat" which Anu Malik so blatantly claims to be his music!!

I guess , when you include Deva and Anand Milind , the whole spirit of investigation dies. I will stick to some of the older ones. RDB's 'Yaad a rahi hai' has a striking resemblance to 'Yaar antha nilavu'. You will find Naushad's 'Mera pyar bhi thoo hai' in Saati ( a remake of Paalum pazhamum) on the same lines as 'Naan pesa ninaippathellam nee pesa vendum'. Shanker-jaikishan's prelude music to 'teri pyaari pyaari soorath ko' sung by Rafi is similar to the prelude in 'Kan padume pirar kan padume' sung by PBS for MSV. In fact the tune of the song itself resembles the original Tamil version. All songs from the movie 'Naanum oru penn' like 'Kanna karumai niram kanna' & 'Poo pola poopola sivakkum' were copied in Hindi and interestingly the 'poo pola' song was PBS's first Hindi song. The lady co-singer was Lata Mangeshkar.

ILaya nila pozhigirade was copied by kalyanji-anandji for KlAkAr .The singer was Kishorekumar (neele neele ambar).
These guys can't even copy properly. The interludes were horrible in that song.
Recently, bodhai yeri pochu was copied as bOli bAli ladki (axe and mamta K).even that song wasn't copied properly.

I think the "copy" of suspense sounds from Gupt by Deva is very much excusable. We have to clearly define what is a copy. IMO, there are several songs that sound similar to others but it is easy to see that that was not deliberate. But there are certain songs that have been deliberately lifted and it is these that we must spot here.
Anand-Milind and Anu Malik are master copycats in this sense. Of course, Deva also comes under this list often.

I think that the suspense theme from GUPT is a copy from DEEP FOREST. So, if ARR has used this in Love Birds, then this itself must be a copy!

The Gupt theme is completely different than any of the tracks on the three Deep Forests CDs.

Hi,
I know for sure that the title song from Gupt which goes as "Gupt gupt..." is a line by line copy from an English song (including the interlude music). I may have got the name of the band wrong. I know this because I heard the original!
