Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

The pallavi and a portion of the charanam appears to have been reused in Abhinandana (Telugu) - "Manchi Kurise Vellalo" sung by SPB and Janaki. Yet another Suddha Dhanyasi from IR ??

Friends,
After narrating (with a liberal dose of lucid details!) his lover's features throughout the song to a close friend, the singer ends the song saying " meedhiyai naan uraippathum nee rasippathum paNbaadu illai!"
appo idhu varaikkum uraiththathu, rasiththathu ellaam paNbaattOda sErththiyaa?!!!

A very popular song on Radio Ceylon, though I don't recall hearing it on Vividha Bharathi :)
SPB takes on with aplomb the twin roles of the naughty narrator and eager listener.
Aayiram Nivae Vaa-1983 starred Karthik & Sulakshana, and was directed by A.S.Prakasam. I think it marked some significant number (200th film?) in IR's discography.
Another song was 'Ooty kuliru, ammadi porvaiyum' (MV/SPS). There was another song too-perhaps a SJ solo, eludes me right now.
Raj- 'Gangai aatril' was written by Pulamaipithan. He spoke about the song in an interview too.
OISG, I too remember the song 'Vadai Katru veesugindra kaalathile nalla vaazhkai undu engalukku odathile, Iravinile thozhilukkaga sellugindrom -antha Iravanaithan nambi inge vazhugindrom' - perhaps from the film Vaadaikkaatru?

Another song that I always found similar to the SOTD (at least the pallavi) was 'Paadi vaa thendrale' (JC from Mudivalla Aarambam)

Thoppai
suddha Dhanyasi?? I feel the song is lot closer to "Neethane en ponvasantham" (Ninaivellam Nithya) and "Kavidhai paadu kuyile"(Thendrale ennai thodu) both in Madhyamavathi.
However with Otti KuluRu ammadi from the same film with Madhyamavathi start i am a bit confused.Perhaps few more listenings might help.
Eminently forgettable movie.2 Karthiks.. when one itself was intolerable. With a pencil mush and a pencil figure ,Hat and shawl on Karthik looked like a female artist in disguise in a wild west movie.AS Prakasm s last ditch efforts to continue in 80s??This film had the title "Raga Rishi" Ilayaraja and that was the only other highlight.
CV,that s the class differnce between "Ponnondru kanden pennangu illai" and "eNNIrendu pathinaru vayathu".But the director had valid(!) excuse as Karthik played both the roles...
BB
Thanks on BB on behalf of all SPB fans!Hope some HCIRF is already ready with an AK-47 for "Not sure who the MD ".

thoppai, that Abhinandana song did not have the 'eppadi eppadi' seshtai inbetween. later on they dubbed this Abhinandana in tamil and this tune must have reappeared in the tamil version (directed by Ashok kumar) - forgot the movie name.

raj VM is the lyricist for devathai and andharangam. He mentioned in one his DD interviews that antharangam is his fav song.(sangeetha jaadhi mullai and panivizhum are his other favs).
Saravanan i thought aayiram nilave Vaa was directed by late Rajsekar?(kakki sattai fame)

Illai, Ramki, Aayiram Nilave Vaa was definitely scripted & directed by A.S.Prakasam. It was produced by Dr.Jawahar & Chandraprakash under the banner 'New Wave Pictures'. It was given an 'A' certificate by the censors and was released on 15.7.1983.

dhaavani poo--indha rendu vaarthai poathaathaa to classify as VM?
trigger happy synth sound all over--ithu poathaathaa to classify as 80s IR?
A.S. Pragaasam did direct this and many other unbelievably horrible movies that I classify him the worst director/storyteller in TFM (Aalappirandhavan, Echchil Iravugal were 2 other movies that I haven't forgotten despite trying; at least "Echchil Iravugal" had some good songs--"poo maela veesum poongaatrae enmael veesamaattaayaa?"--and Chandrashekar's lone good performance as a blind man). Indha (*&^%$%kku Peraasiriyar A.S.Pragaasam-nu title vaera. Can't believe this guy was a professor!
The SOTD is fun enough, but the middle parts could easily be confused with "Pani Vizhum Malarvanam". Gangai Aatril is a grossly overlooked gem. Devadhai Ilam devi was almost as interminable as the movie...Yes, 1000 Nilavae Vaa was IR's 200th film for sure. It certainly marks the end of IR's innocence AFAI concerned.

Song of the Day: Samarasam ulaavum idamE from Rambaiyin kaadhal.

- A very rare Seergazhi Govindarajan song for today's SOTD. Music by T.R.Paappa. Lyrics by Maruthakasi.
- I heard this song today after a long long time, and could surprisingly remember most of the song. If I am right, the song is sung by Thangavelu sitting in a cemetery or some place similar. There seems to be two movies with the same title, one came in 1939, with Sarangapani as hero. The other one, the one that this song belongs to, was released in 1956 and starred Gemini Ganesan, I believe.

IR did konashtai balance between SPB and SJ with "Andharangam yaavume" and "Kanni ilam poovudal"- an equally if not more daunting , erotic number than thIS SOTD.
