Vaanavil Talent Quest 2003

Vaanavil Talent Quest is a prestigious talent quest for amateur singers, with the top prize being a Kia make car. VTQ No. 1’s winner was Sheila Raman who got to sing a song under Bharadwaj in the movie Engey Enathu Kavithai. Bharadwaj was one of the judges of the finals.

Last year’s winner was Alinda Alphonse and she is expected to sing under Harris Jeyraj’s music, who was one the judges of the finals. She sang Rukku rukku rukku splendidly and was a good comedienne too.

Who will be the winner of VTQ 2003 and who will be the MD for the finals?
As usual we will have to wait for Tamil new year to know the results. In the meantime, share your thoughts here.

  I respect your concern ...in Malaysia where this poeple respect a real talent !!!What ever singing contest all they know is Re Shanmugam,KJ Babu, Saraswathy, Jack Nadaraja & so on....so where is justise...I do believe Vanavil people will know all the issue here !! I'm not satisfied frm the VTQ 2001 it self !! The ealier message is being a reply for the particular person !!!Don't take it serious !!! All I want is people must know the actual Meaning of Padal Thiran Potti !!!!

  1.DONT EVER APPOINT LOCAL JUDGES IN THE FINAL ROUND AS THEY MAY DO POLITICS THERE LIKE WHAT HAPPEN THIS YEAR.ANURADHA DONT DESERVE THE 1ST PLACE.SHE DIDN'T SING WELL IN THE 2 ROUNDS YET SCORED HIGH MARKS.VALARMATHI WHO SANG THEVAN THANTE VEENAI WAS SUPERB YET BELOW HER.WHAT NONSENCE IS THIS.
  2.NEVER ALLOW VIEWERS OR SMS VOTES TO FINALISE BECAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS OUR MALAYSIAN INDIAN'S MUSIC KNOWLEDGE IS POOR.
  3.GIVE MORE MARKS FOR VOCAL RATHER THAN FOR OTHER TALENTS.
  4.NEVER ALLOW CONTESTANTS TO BRING SONGS WHICH HAS HINDI LYRICS(EXAMPLE: ANURADHA'S DEEWANA SONG) AS THIS IS PURELY TAMIL SONG COMPETITION

  The past 2-3 weeks before the finals, they keep airing Deva's interview in Osai (channel 114, Astro). He really praised Malaysians. He seems to be really humble. He was also eager to come to Malaysia for the contest as a judge. He kept saying that he is going to have a tough time selecting the winners as he believes that Malaysians are good singers.I was thinking that PERUSA ENNACHUM NADAKE POTHE since astro keep airing it, again and again. I was RIGHT. All of us saw the DISASTER that took place on APRIL 12, on GENTING HIGHLANDS. THANKS ASTRO VANAVIL.

  You have shown that you have nothing between your ears by your reply above. The true meaning of "Paadal Thiran Potti":
  A competition to showcase your vocals AND talent capability. The talent capability is anything other than singing like acting, playing instruments, etc. S
  
  ome of the people might have better vocals but when it comes to showcasing their talents (other than singing) - they are not able to do do. That's why people like Jega, even though he got the highest marks in the singing round, got very low points in the talents portion.

  Govind's speech is scripted by the people from Astro. Astro is the organizer and they have defined the meaning of Paadal Thiran Potti as such. It's a COMBO between singing AND talent. A person requires both to succeed but of course the 2003 competition is a total farce right from the heats. Both of which are mutually exclusive. Only a fool like Mike would define his own definition.

  i agree with u mike, saravanan just sang thats all! with all his charms.. oh god! he got in because he know people thats the point!!he sang for more than one song in more than one album!! he just sang like any other person nothin special at all..except for the talent part, that is a true talent..i have to agree.. valarmathi sang the kandekondain song well and i think jegathisan sang very well eventhough he almost imitated unikrishnans's voice for raile2,but he sang though songs all the way from heats to the finals!! it is a contest, so when a person sings a though song well and beautifully he/she sould be rewarded respectively!! like alinda, even she sang all the thoughs songs so well especially theenda theenda (not an easy song to sing) and rukku rukku, its still a feast to the ear if u hear her singing now!! that is what a true talent and singer is.. anybody can sing any usual song easily!!even sharmini's voice was a bit shaky, and her choices of songs were quite dull but she was ok for the 3rd place, peeple could accept that...and it was very obvious that even anuradha herself looked blur when she was announced the first price,i bet she would have thought " others did much much better then me!!" such a huge difference between anuradha and alinda.. because of this many of them are thinking twice to enter next year, as all their hard efforts will be gone to waste.. just image deva choosed her as per 4th place and now he himself has to give her a chance to sing for his owned composed song!! what a kodumai for him, i bet his annoyed, he has to work with her.. but maybe he can help her to improve her singing.. what the hell..
  one moe thing.. my friend who went to genting, noticed one thing, as he was sitting behind the judges for the last round when the contestants were judged to sing old songs.. and when kavita sang deva looked at anuradha sriram and she showed with her hand that kavita is good and that deva should choose her among the four at that time (well they dont have a choice, but to choose one of them rite)and maybe thats why deva also would have equally thought of choosing her but what a dissappointment!!..anyway has this issue been out in the tamil papers? anyone knows??? malaysia tamil news paper???

  Hi, Dell & so call Malaysia Aalavanthan, first try to respect others.As a graduate frm UM in Lingustik Bahasa majoring in Tamil & as a teacher, I don't fine any problem with Mike's defination of Paadal Thiran Potti, I think u both got language problem.If u don't understand anything pls do ask frm those knowledgeble in that particular area understand !!!don't simply talk.Where in this world got Anjing Kurap Babi ??Even that u cannot get it right Mmmm.It dosen't mean that Vanavil hv describe the meaning as such so they are right !! you can accept the defination but the the result !!! Wht a crazy people !!Radio 6 is the first one to organise Kalai Thiran Paadal Potti ..do they ask you to dance,act or play instrument ? so they don't know the meaning of the Paadal Thiran is it !!
