Sat down to tune your lyrics. You have painted excellent the word pictures of the rainy day and
unique observations (kaikuttai kudaiyai mariyadhu).
However, you need to bring some deeper meaning or emotional feel to it.
For instance, here is a prompt:
ilaigalil pudhu panithuligal
thelithadhu yaar vaanmazhaiyo
urangugaiyil peithaayo - idhu
sariyo illai muraiyo
naan kaanaa nerathil
mazhai peithu enna payan
Pirai kaadhil seraamal
naan paadi enna payan

Pirar kaadhil seramal...

Pallavi:
ilaigalil pudhu panithuligal
thelithadhu yaar vaanmazhaiyo
urangugaiyil peithaayo - idhu
sariyo illai muraiyo
naan kaanaa nerathil
mazhai peithu enna payan
Un kaadhil seraamal
naan paadi enna payan
I made the pirar to Un, to make it more intimate.
Now, your imagery founds its place:
Charanam:
Ethirpaara neram paarthu mazhai thooral thoovum
En kaiyum Kaikuttaigalum Poikkudaiyai maarum
- From: rjay (@ 156.77.105.121)
on: Mon Nov 10 11:42:05 EST 2003
I brought out the interplay between the
naughty rain drops and me:
Ethirpaara neram paarthu mazhai thooral thoovum
En kaiyum Kaikuttaigalum Poikkudaiyai maarum
Moodatha idam paarthu neerthuligal serum
Mugathil naan kudai pidithaal mudhugellam eeram
- From: rjay (@ 156.77.105.121)
on: Mon Nov 10 11:48:17 EST 2003
I liked the two imagery (Senthamarai, Powder sayam)
SO here it goes:
Thamarai mel saerrin thuli poakka vandhayo - manidhan
Poipoochin poliththanam kaatta vandhayo
Ucchi veyil veppath theeyai anaikka vandhayo
Eeram illa manangalakku ninaivu thandhayo

Now the task is to make the 'poetic' ideas and lines into singable and varied 'lyrics'.

Thanks everyone for listening. Also I have to complement vijay for that wonderful tune in Gowrimanohari. I kept humming the tune of the pallavi for sometime yesterday. And MS, of course, your rendition was lovely.
Vijay
I sure had hamsanadam in mind. But may be I shouldn't have used D2 that often since it erroneously gives the feeling of being Saraswathi as MS pointed out. Anyway, I'm glad you all liked it.

Excellent Kaumudhi...the melody effortlessly embraces the lyrics making it a perfect marriage. Waiting to hear the rest of it.

rjay,
I understand your point about giving my song some gravitas by adding more depth. I truly like what you've come up with as alternative lines. You should definitely make your song out of that.

MS,
The geocities daemon is upset, maybe! It should come back. Sorry!
Meanwhile, I listened to your tune, very good. The prelude
showcases your singing ability. THe transition in Uyir theril is surprising and good.
I cant help getting reminded of another Kannan-Meera song in Gowri Manohari. ;)
Very good melody and emotional rendering! Keep doing more.

Divakar, Kaumudi,
I listened to your tunes. Very nice.
Divakar, mood is set very powerfully and the pallavi is catchy. You need to work on the Charanam.
Kaumudi, all you need is an orchestra to play your song! ;)

pKitcha - Thanks for the comments - that was the complete song.
rjay - Thanks for listening.
uv - The link is a geocities link. So I guess the traffic is too high when you accessed it and it was acting up. Can you try listening later? The link seems to work for me.

MS, Diwakar and Kaumudi, good job on those compositions. Kaumudi, I am gonan try to do some background score to ur tune, if u permit me.
Udhaya, though I am aware of the genral idea of the song, I am not sure of the meaning of everyword. Rite now in process getting there. Once done, I will try to tune ur song in some time. Quarter end is getting near so have to do some studying and projects rite now.
Meanwhile, I did this Dheemi Dheemi song from Earth sometime back. Its not an exact replica of that song, but follows that style. Let me know ur comments.

"I cant help getting reminded of another Kannan-Meera song in Gowri Manohari"
Rjay, you are probably thinking of "Kanna varuvaaya " :-) I had originally created that tune for Paadhi Raavil lyrics of Udhaya and hence that feeling of longing creeping up in the song which reminds you of the other number(which is also in GowriM). MS added value to the tune by singing it in a ghazalish manner and then wrote fresh lyrics for it.

Thanks for listening. Sure, if you think it is worth spending your time on it, then go right ahead. I would be more than happy for you to make the orchestrated version. But I'm afraid it is not perfect with the thaalam. I realized this only after I recorded the whole thing although I thought I did maintain the thaalam while singing.

Vijay composed a tune for "sindhippOgum mugile". And he joins the band of composers trying their hands in tuning preset lyrics. This composition of his based predominantly on brindavana saranga is interesting because of the way he splits the words and unpredictable structural changes that he has produced. I liked it immensely.
Composed and sung by vijay. A simple nice background using keyboard is also present in the song.

Few facts about Mahati:-))...
Mahati is a seeker of Utopia and that seems to have been temporarily promised by your postings in the last couple of days. Hence I will hang out here for some more time until it becomes permanent.
It's not difficult to trace me as I am within you as your good side of Human Being:-))
Check out your % and collectively I am that much:-)) If you agreed with my postings, then you're agreeing with yourself in good facet:-))

Congratulations to new talented singers and composers of this thread...
Kaumudi, Nice effort and perhaps with good singing ability, you've rolled out this tune with ease. As a listener, believe me I am happy about this tune and it's very pleasing and perhaps will be the same for every listener ( serious or casual ). Due to my MFS ( Melodic Familiarity Syndrome ), pardon me to comment that you have constructed the melody phrases identifying with the children of yaman/kalyani scale rather than of nithimathi. Hence it didn't strictly sound to me as hamsanadam. Dhaivatham is a non-issue as it was part of this raaga which is avoided in today's hamsanadam. Taking this as a good opportunity and assuming that everyone here is open to other languages, please check out this song

For a change this is not IR or ARR but great GK Venkatesh and singer is RajKumar:-))
Vijay, I like your composition for sindhi...Superb and it captured the feel of rain immediately -> I found it more situational and thematic to the lyrics. Besides I think this thread has discovered a new composer ( filmy ) who can contribute to this
Vijay and MS,
First of all my salutations to your Gowri Manohari and I am glad about your duo. This is absolutely my favorite tune. Keep around with each other longer without any ego issues, you can mesmerize people around with soulful music. We don't care who did what in this tune or lyrics but the team is extremely great.
