Yesudas and Illayaraja

With so many topics opened, I have not seen one that discussed these two great musicians. Yesudas and IR have provided TFM some soothing melodies and wonderful songs. Let me start by opening the thread with "Edho Ninaivugal" ... This song has mesmerized me for a long time. Please bring out the best songs with these two and I would personally like to get a list of the songs and keep it safe for a million years.

PS :: Please for heaven sake do not drag ARR into this... This should be purely related to KJY and IR with comments related to the songs and their beauty.. Awaiting your responses....

  HATS OFF ARASU !!! This song has exactly mesmerised me ever since i heard i heard the song. I still hear it regularly, the interludes in violin and the melody is so haunting it immidiately sends me into my years i spent back home. Man this song is a killer.Even the topic is something i was looking forward to, Thanks Arasu.Hoping for some interesting postings. (sorry guys i couldnt resist this.)

  "Maadapuraavei Vaa..." is from PARUVA MAZHAI, which was dubbed from Malayalam. The MD was Salil Choudhry.

  Thanks for the info about "Retthatthei Panku Vaichu..." from your CD. After reading your posting, I went through my video several times, but still have difficulty relating it to Yesudas's voice. I have a HUGE collection of his movie and non-movie recordings in several languages, but somehow this particular song stands out! Are there more than one version of this song in the movie? Or has KJY changed his voice that much for this song, or is it poor recording on the video? The scene on my video is that of a funeral procession. Ramki, Mano, Arasu Dakshin, or anyone else can jump in with an answer!
  
  BTW, Arasu Dakshin: Please list all KJY/IR songs that you have or know of that are not already listed on this thread. I will be interested in "trading" (swapping) some of mine with others for some songs that I need for my collection.

  lo friends,
  my favourite KJ/IR combination is "poove sempoove un vaasal varum" (a karthik movie) -film Sollathudikudu manasu. Also for my friend rajkumar "maasi masam aalana poonu". and our combine favourite is u know the great KJ in his classical rendering -- 'SINDHU BHAIRAVI" - all the songs are great ( including thanni thotti - if anybody objects, we dont care). Lo Arasu, how come u and others have missed this film. Also reg. 'MOOGA MULL' most of u have said KJ has sung "Sollayo Vai thirandu', it is wrong. Actually it is sung by SriKumar, another Malayalee singer. Also when I mention Srikumar, I remember the song from His Highness Abdullay (malayalam) a song of KJ, of course not with IR - but the song is real good - the song is 'Pramada vanam'. As good music lovers, I hope u all would like that.

  This is a distraction. Famous Malayalam movie director Bharathan (known for the "Bharathan Touch") passed away this week in Chennai. His Tamil movies include AAVAARAM POO and THEVAR MAGAN.

  You guys have listed most of my favourites, (Poove Sempoove and Paartha Vizhi top my list). I would like to add the following numbers too:
  
  Mazhai Varudu Mazhai Varudu (Raaja Kaiya Vacha)
  It's a very beautiful duet with Chitra
  
  Manidha Manidha (Kann Chivandal Mann Chivakkum)
  A great song with some mind-blowing chorus. IR gave a whole new shade to the Raga Keeravani.
  
  Sangath Thamizh Kaviye and Kanna Varuvaaya(Manadil Urudi Vendum)
  A semi-classical Ragamalika duet with Chitra. (Very badly picturised by Balachander; Couldn't stand Suhasini's Abhinayams and the Hero's antics)
  
  Gangaikkarai Mannanadi (Varsham 16)
  A seemingly effortless rendering; only KJ could have done justice to the song.
  
  Moham Ennum Theeyil (Sindhu Bhairavi)
  Once again, ONLY KJ could have done justice to the song.
