Radhika,
Thanks! Appreciate it!
I am pleasantly suprised at the #2 rating at 1sound as Castle's inspiration born out of me from a purely Carnatic Melodic Strand and was well received by Western ears on the Piano....
Thanks

Robbie,
How you doin? Sorry, just joined my new job in Chennai. Was busy with that.
5.1 sound? I wish to see that system :) Never worked with 5.1 surround till now. But how exactly would this help in composing music, unless you are doing a movie track? It may be interesting to play with, but for a music composer it would only be an extra overhead, in terms of money, and I dunno about this, but technology too I should say.

Divakar, Autumn delight was indeed delightful. The mood instantly reminded me of an old hindi number "Madhuban kushboo deta hai" which is also charukesi-based I believe. Expecting more such pieces from you.

Divakar
Your Autumn delight was lovely. Especially for me - I just heard the piece after coming back from a lovely hike and it's autumn here - it just made a perfect finish! But when I downloaded the piece, it downloaded about 2.18 minutes of the piece. Is that the total length of the song uploaded in the website? I was enjoying the lovely ups and downs in the score and at 2.18 min, it abruptly ended:-(
Anyway, hope you have more on the way.

Eswar,
First up, sorry for the delay. Secondly, congrats for your new job in Chennai. You like it? I suppose you came here to get in to the cine field? My advance wishes to you.
Actually, I am going to buy that 5.1 speaker system with the belief that some softwares might allow me to record (& master) songs in 5.1. Since I had not used *any* music softwares so far at all, I request your help as to whether any softwares would really allow that thing.

robbie,
Mixing in 5.1 is different from encoding in 5.1,
encoders are costly, ranges from $400-$1000
Basically you need something like protools TDM, or Cubase or even acid 4.0 supports 5.1 for mixing, meaning you can place the sound anywhere in the surround field. (something like panning in stereo)
But finally when you mix down you need to encode for 5.1. You mixdown output has to be in 24bit meaning only works with DVD , you cannot make an regular audio cd in 5.1
it nice to have a system that can replay 5.1,
Boyz songs has been speically recorded in 5.1 system (waiting for the DVD). In movies like lesa lesa, sami have good 5.1 mix were used mostly in backgrounds.
Sound is very directonal, you need a (good) 5.1 system you play it back. For the heck of it, I am fancy enough to have 7.1 though i cannot encode in 7.1 too costly.
5.1 works!.
:)

Robbie,
Thanks. Cine field is not yet in the grasp of my hands. I am working as a software engineer right now. The job is good, so are the people.
Re: 5.1
Aren't way talking about 5.1 surround? I think I feel dumb not knowing what I am talking about :)
So, a question - How is from a point of view of a music composer, to compose songs, 5.1 surround a boon? Wouldn't it be a little too "sleazy" to have your drums playing on the back-right, and your violin playing somewhere between back-left and front-left? :) Or am I completly wrong?

SRIK,
Thanks for your response. Only from you had I learnt that we need an encoder to make music in 5.1. So long, I had thought that just a DVD Writer would be enough. So, what is this encoder actually? A software or a hardware? If its a hardware, why doesnt it come built-in with a DVD writer?

an encoder bundles 5.1 tracks of audio. DVD player or your receiver (Amplifier) DEcodes them back to 5.1.
Software and hardware versions are available.
check here....
http://www.5dot1.com/equipment/ac-3_and_dts_software_encoders.html
It does help in being more creative, i tried a dd5.1 live, makes audience wonder where the sound comes from, must be careful not to get carried away. .:)
soon i am planning to get out a 5.1 audio in about 6 months.
It is fun when your music is split in 5 tracks of audio while the convetion is just 2 tracks (180Deg) . The surround field is 360 Degrees.
If you have tamil dvds like "Dhool" check the middle channel, this is reserved for vocals only in a song. If i cut the middle channel i get a background sound track without vocals. Some times chorus are panned to rear!..over all fun.

SRIK,
Yea, these days, most 5.1 recordings have the central channel reserved for Vocals. In almost all English DVDs and most 5.1 Games.
Yea, it would be fun to make music in 5.1, and I have finally decided to buy a 5.1 MegaWorks speaker system. Anyway, thanks for those insights on decoders :)
Take care Srik. And, Eswar too.
See you ppl soon :)

Hi Friends,
I am thinking of sequencing the entire musical background in my keyboard and moving it into a wave file in teh PC and then mix the vocal track. I don't know if it would work fine, and I would appreciate if someone would let me know anything related to it.
I tested something without success yesterday. I connected my keyboard to the PC through the MIC slot and tried to record from START - ACCESSORIES - ENTERTAINMENT. The sound recorder allows me to record only for 60 seconds. Do I need to set it somewhere to record for a longer duration of time ?

Hi Friends:
Here's a new score "Time"...The inspiration to this score...for obvious good reasons both at work and home:-)) in the past few weeks, i was unable to spend any decent time on music for myself...so this score is questioning me "Do you have time for Music?"...

Listen and Enjoy...Raaga will be obvious...
Regards,
Aditya
