UV and Jay,
Those were all played live! BTW, I wasnt the only kb player. We had two more, Nagaraj and Abhijit - we all split parts quite sensibly. Yes we had off scale flutes playing along with kb.

Swamiji:
Nice Performances. Mukundan's composition seems to be very interesting. However performance of flute in that one was a big let down. The rest of the orchestra portrayed very grand while there were some delays in flute performances.
Good Job.

Aditya

Hi Guys, Thanks a lot.
I worked with my friend Kapileshwar in Toronto. I am from OTtawa now working in New Jersey.
you can get some information at sivasweb.com/kadhalsalsa/
We rented the studio number9audio.com for my voice and flute stuff.
Mastering was doing at Sangeetha. Majnu and Tenali
mastering were done at the same place.
All compositions and Rhythm Pro. were done in Toronto. You can check the Tools sections to see the list of items used.
My intention is to produce something like a Cinema Album. And I think we got that feeling.
Thanks and I will let you know once it is out in the Market.

Nice work siva.
Most of the so called tamil pop albums out in market sounds like tamil cine songs mostly.
that way your album is different ,it does sound very much like cine album. :)you can get that feeling :) as you say. The recording is very good.
Do you have any mp3 site.? you can upload your other experimental songs there.
All the best
UV/Premadona

Your "Alive" song is very good. Beautiful melody with a very innovative bass lines
Interesting thing is that Melody was written in Keeravani while the bass lines and Arps on EP playing mayamalava gowlai - Innovative Work.
Specially around 2:12, bass phrases and then a unit pause with EP Dynamic Piano taking over the next phrases. Beautiful continuity keeping the mood flowing...besides these wonderful drum loops...Good Job Jay!

Aditya

Aditya,
Thank you for the feedback. Glad you liked the song. I am actually amazed that you recognized the Raaga...I know I shouldnt be. Whatever I do in classical in pure intuition..no brains involved. Its interesting what people with classical knowledge make out of it :)
"Alive" was my first attempt to do something based on a raaga.

UV: I do plan on doing songs with vocals eventually. Now I'm learning and experimenting new stuff. I'll definitely need good singers/lyricists at some point.

Guys
I came across these two good artilces on raga
do read and listen on raag Hindolam/Malkauns.
The famous film songs I can remember is 'Om Nama Shivaya' from the movie salangai oli and 'Azhagu Malar Ada' from Vaidakei kathirinthal, there are also some great songs from old movies i dont recollect them now. And there are some great Malayalam film songs on the same raga.
And IR has handled this raga in his album Nothing But Wind.

UV,
yes, there are many songs in Hindolam/Malkauns in films. IR has used it in "A composers breath", I think, in Nothing But Wind - I guess the flute was played by non other than Hariprasad Chaurasia. It is a great raga, it is a morning raga if I am not wrong. Soothes the soul and gives a mystic , and meloncholic aura to the atmosphere if played/sung/composed well.

And in the same movie a very superb Jazz song called 'Raja Rani' if anyone can tell the chords for that song I would appreciate it.

Kitcha,
Thank you. I donot know if you will believe this, but I am using a P-III 800MHz Dell Dimension PC, with Goldwave, FruityLoops, Impulse Tracker and a Creative Sound Blaster PCI 64V and nothing else :)
I guess it is all in the amount of time you spend in Post Production.
Tsotetsi,
What version are you using? I think I can provide you with a small tutorial for 3.4, which is what I use. Let me know if you would like me to send you a mail.

Wow...that really IS impressive.
I have a Delta 1010 and I'm not able to produce sounds half as good as yours.
So I'm assuming you use Goldwave to record. Does recording software make a difference? I use N-track to record my stuff and do you think Goldwave could make a difference?
What other stuff do you suggest I concentrate on during post-production?
Too many questions, I know...hope you get some time to answer them for me. :)

Kitcha,
Actually, I donot do any voice recording. Every one of the instruments used is either synthesised or are simple .wav/.xi samples. I use Goldwave for all post production work - editing, mixing, equalizing and normalizing.
When it comes to digital recording it doesn't matter what software you use. What is more important I guess is, as I indicated earlier, post-production work. I usually take a week to equalize and mix the final rendering. The best way to do it is, as I have learned, export each channel of your track as a seperate high-quality .wav file without any sort of compression or encoding applied - I prefer 16bit-44.1K-stereo. Then take each channel wave and equalize it to your preference. Keep the volume of the output down to a normal. Once you are satisfied with it. Start mixing each channel into the final render. Equalize/Normalize it after this if needed. Normalize the volume, and then encode it into 128kbps/44.1K/Stereo MP3
Many seniors here in this forum could help here, since I am still an amateur in composing.
One more free advice. Never,Never,Never use low quality samples if you are using computer composing tools. Rely less on MIDI (I personally hate MIDI. I would prefer to record a .wav sample out of a synthesiser and edit it in the computer). Try to use mono samples and use your softwares panning/pitching ability to make stereo after effects. Stereo samples are less 'flexible', I feel.
Hope this helps. Have fun composing.
-Eswar
PS: I was thinking of writing a small tutorial for FruityLoops for Tsotetsi. But if you want my personal one, and not mind basic stuff then I can send it to you too.

Kitcha, Eswar:
I used to record ith SBLive too. My songs "Fly Away", "Broken" and "Twilight Rain" are recorded with that and cakewalk. The others are done with D12. Well..I moved to a better card too...incidentally, Delta 1010! I'm using it with Cubase 32. There are no songs done with this set up which are on my site. May be my next song. I was trying sequencing with Cubase now that I have more Sound modules to work with. I havent gotten the feel for it as yet. I got too comfortable to the sequencer on Triton!!
