Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

'Thenral vandhu' is an example of the created ,looming larger than the creator. This song has moved me to tears for no single reason.Every single element which has contributed to this song(be it the haunting humming, percussion, instruments, interludes, lyrics, singing)seems to lose its identity in the greater ocean of MUSIC , is all I can say.

All the praises for this song is expected from hard cores.
Would like to hear views of neutral people like Uthaya, Saravanan or Lollu, on whether this song is worth being a song of year or whatever.

Sure, there are bound to be diverse views on any song for that matter. It is only when u start deploring other's preference, it becomes an issue.

Vaathiyaar,
I rarely agree with the mainstream, this song is a prime example of that. I don't want to spoil others' enjoyment of this song so my mounam on this song is the very opposite of sammatham. I would pick several hundred IR songs before this one. But whatever makes people happy, good for them. We must all find enough things in life to be happy about. So, I'm happy to see others happy.

A brilliantly conceived perfect ong, great tune but not my favorite, i don't know why maybe it is the dragging effect or drunkard effect of IR. I preferred the Chandiraru Suriyarum song...
One things, bb the sound quality is super. my many recordings of this song from original sources gave jarring rhythm noise.

Dig:
"Would like to hear views of neutral people like Uthaya, Saravanan or Lollu,"
Please dont include trouble-mongers like Lollu in the same list that has Saravanan's name. Its an insult to Saravanan's class, knowledge and contribution to this forum.
Just because Lollu decides to mock IR or his fans repeatedly in all threads it doesnt make him "neutral". His class is evident from the username that he has chosen.
-------------------------------------------------
As for this SOTD it remains as one of my all-time favourites. I liked the peppy "chandirarum sooriyarum" with its wonderful WCM interludes and the short chorus number "Kannirandil yetri vaitha neivilakke" from the same album.

I know some neutrals' law book can't digest this because the two letter- key word has been involved in it.

Even in my opinion there are thousands of songs, INCLUDING Ir's songs, that are better and more popular than this song. Unfortunately, even if you put a donkey's sound, people here will rave about it as long as Ir has a role in it.

Thanks bb, i finally managed to get the font working by murasu anjal. The analyses have been quite informative. I guess this a trend of sorts in the making. There have been songs in the past in SOTD which have been analysed extensively.
As a suggestion for improvement, the SOTD maybe further refined by both identifying a worthy song and identifying people who can analyse the song extensively. I understand that this can be labour intensive and requires coordination, but if it happens maybe once a week or once a month, it will be still be worth it. SOTD can then transform into SOTW (week) or SOTM (month). 200 SOTDs is surely a commendable achievement.

:-),
First get yourself a name, then get yourself the courage to address me by name, then air your comments, maybe we can discuss things. Of course, if you want to believe that everyone who doesn't agree with you is biased, you're welcome to remain in your rigid mindset and hang out with like-minded folks so there won't be the imbalance of a contrary opinion in your world.

Udhaya
Thanks for your opinion. I tend to agree with you.
This song is far from mainstream actually. Outside this forum, not many people are even aware of it and as for the movie, the less said, the better. :)
Vijay
The last time I checked, Lollu was not a Tamil movie celebrity and it clearly says in the main page "Please help us by NOT making severely critical remarks on anyone or indulging in personal attacks."
I would rather take his lollu remarks than "reviews" like those for this song, from the hardcores. I hope you know what I mean.
Uthaya, one more thing. This nameless entity has alredy made his views known very clearly, not long ago. Do you remember this posting (which was made when there was some severe discussion going on) which was nothing but "ventha punnil vel paichara maathiri"?

i think my earlier post was out of context...
what is the difference between arrangement and
orchestration...this is in the context of "Thendral vandhu theendumbothu"...bb mentions in his writeup that Karthik Raja did the arrangement and IR wrote the melody...so i was wondering what KR's role was in the song (as in what arrangement means)...does it mean he harmonized the melody/chose the instruments/did the recording??
can experts clarify?
TIA

Vaathiyar, you need to check the other threads once in a while to see what I mean about Lollu's antics . If my "personal attacks" would keep away posters like him away from TFMDF, I would consider that a service as bb is pressed for time to do minute-my-minute police work here. I have been here long enough uo not know the difference between a truly objective poster and a pretender/trouble-monger.
My request to you was meant to not encourage posters like him.

"Outside this forum, not many people are even aware of it ".... really..... i don't think so.... "Avathaaraam" was a super hit musically.... fyi, FM used to play this song daily when the cassette got released.... (on a side note, ARR in one of his interviews when asked about IR's songs at that time, "i heard that Avathaaraam is very good")....
as far as movie - i agree with u.....

Wish you all a happy new year!
- This song by Maragathamani is sung by SPB and Chitra. A short but beautiful song, it is on the sweet nothings that lovers exchange. Mammooty and Bhanu priya keep talking over the phone overnight till the wee hours of dawn. To fit the mood, very minimal orchestration is used.

Thanks for the nice, pleasant song! But I think the female vocal is not by Chitra. It is Sandhya - I guess the same lady who sang Pookodiyin, Buck buck etc songs. She is related to PS, I think.
