  I agree to the fact that VM is better than KD in so many ways.
  KD and VM worked together only for 2 years.
  When VM came to TFM, his 'pon maalai pozhudhu' was the song in
  
  demand in All Radio music programs.
  KD must not died so early.
  he must have lived to fight with VM.
  had he done that everyone wud have accepted VM is better.
  
  choose any topic,
  VM had penned better lyrics in that topic than KD.
  
  high degree of poetry,
  deep level of philosophy,
  pure commercial thinking,
  ultimate simplicity,
  enjoyable folk,
  
  you cant say a place where KD had wrote better lyrics.

  kannadasan has write equal number of 'kattipidaas' and
  
  'jumbalakkaas'
  
  kannadasan has written more double meaning songs even when they are not necessary.
  
  kannadasan is still appreciated for onething.
  making his idea's simple.
  expressing in simple meaning directly.
  
  but even today one of the proliferated group of lyric writers can write lines like kannadasan even better at times.
  
  the only thing was kannadasan never faced a good competition.
  all he had in front was Mr.Vaalee.
  
  I wont blame kannadasan for being so.

  most of the time he was not in his senses.
  he never preached anything bad but
  researchers have shown how many of the poets started consuming alcohol just to imitate kannadasan.
  
  kamalhaasan once said in a stage,

  but vairamuthu is unlucky,
  kannadasan died early. '
  
  kamal sometimes speaks sensibly.
  this was one such a speech.
  
  Shivaji in a singapore stage said VM has excelled KD,
  which created so many controversies.
  
  that led to VM announce that he deticates his 'kaviyarasu' title, which was confered to him by the same organization that confered the title to kannadasan, to kannadasan itself.
  
  He was confered 'kaviperarasu' by the chief minister of tamil nadu and the considered living legend of tamil literature mr. karunanidhi.
  
  and people now fighting that kaviperarasu sounds superior to kaviyarasu and VM must not use it.
  
  not in one of his literary books VM put any title in front of his name.
  
  these titles are just used by the film industry.
  VM is someone beyond these titles.
  
  'ilaya thalapathy' vijay changes to 'puratch thalapathy' vijay for his next movie. its just like that.
  
  no one wants anything.
  so there is no point in fighting for other's titles.

  "VM using 'english' words for common people who speak tamilish, to understand??" Enna peathal sir idhu? You mean to say tamilish people cannot understand simple tamil words?. VM doesn't need to use english words if he can use simple tamil words (after all they are tamil songs, aren't they?). Did you realize that he is the whole reason for this bad thread?
  
  Then FYI, I have listened to all VM songs right from 'ponn malai pozhudhu' till today. In fact I like many of VM's songs.. There is no doubt that he is a great lyricist (vaana magal naanugiral, veru udai poonugiral -- I said hats-off to you VM, when I first listened to this line 20 years ago). However many people would agree with me if I say that majority of his songs are just 'varthai jalangal' and also they don't actually fit to the situation of the song in the movie. Moreover, he writes for the tune and situation from 'his point of view' not from the point of view of the character who sings the song in the movie.
  
  Kannadasan songs are not like that. Listen to 'athikkai kai kai.. song in 'bale pandia' for intelligent use of words and also how beautifully fits to the situation. Similarly listen to 'vaan nila, nila alla un valibam nila'.
  There are many examples like these.
  
  Kannadhasanum sila peathal songs ellam ezhuthi irukkar (e.g 'my name is billa..'), but very very few.
  
  I would say both VM and KD are greats. But if you compare them, KD is defintely greater than VM. Many KD's songs are still alive because of his lyrics.

  Vairamuthu is a pure commercial poet. He cares least about the society. He doesn't hesitate to fill out some junk words for the tunes, just for the sake of money.
  
  There is a old song that says:
  kaththiyai theettaathe - unthan
  puththiyai theettu
  
  Here goes money minded Vairamuthu:
  
  thiruppachi arivaalai theetikittu vaada vaada
  
  This shows his social responsiblity.
  
  All Vairamuthu does is take some old song, change a little bit and add his speciality words vErvai, azhukku, thaagam, otrai etc.,
  
  Example 1:
  Original:
  vizhiyile malarnthathu
  uyirile kalanthathu
  
  VM:
  vizhiyil malarnthu uyiril kalanthu...
  
  Example 2:
  Original:
  naan kEttu thaai thanthai padaithaaraa

  VM:
  thaayai thErnthedukkum thanthaiyai thErnthedukkum urimai unnidathil illai

  Not only he has copied, but literally struggled to find more words. VM is the only cine poet that tries to use reuse and reuse the same words.
