NM - Number of Movies
I have included 70 repeat movies of ARR essentially he has scored music for 59 movies in 10 year period something which he did in one year
more than one occasion. It is like comparing a hill with mountain. ARR has loo...........ong way to go before being bracketed with IR.

S:
I don't agree with Wisden's list. And, I think we have very short memmory and we try to belittle the efforts, if any, of indians.
Let me talk about Ausies. Now, sachin did win an all important match against ausie. Where ..in Chennai... we where trailing some 100 odd runs and there were 2 days left. We knew, if we prolong the match to the last day, the pitch will crumble and our bowlers can take advantage. When sachin came it was nearing lunch and we had lost 3 wicjkets. We were some 80 runs trailing. Sachin scored a fast 155 not out on that day itself and we posted a huge second innings total.
Kumble finished off Ausies. Mind you, test matches are won largely by bowlers and batsman cannot single handedly win matches. Even in the double hundred by BL against ausies, the last innings of ausies were finished quickly by Walsh and Ambrose.
India, seldom wins test and only sachin cannot do all that is need for a win. On the other hand, WI had in them, BL, Walsh and ambrose at that time. The W and A are enough to win tests. Do you remember the test against WI and AUS in perth.
Comming back to Mohali. That test was largely won by W and Benjimin.
Who in their dream would have thought that India will be finished by lunch.?
In that same series, Sachin scored a 179 in chenai and helped India win the test and take a lead.
Comming back to the match against pak., yes had he done that then it would have been a history. But, his innings was one of he greatest nevertheless. Suffering from a back spasmm and largely handicapped by that, he still managed to score a great century with a dumb player like NM.
Fortune plays a major roll buddy. In the 96 tour of WI, when ST was in 92, out Edi Nichols gave him out for a ball that had hit his shoulders. In another match, he was given out of a no ball. And for the fist time and last time in his life Walsh threw a ball at the stumps which caught ST run out at 88.
Except for Bradman's 314 or odd, no other batsman's score has single handedly been a winning factor for a test. Bowlers have to take 20 wickets. And the fact is we don't have such bowlers who can take 20 during a crunch situation.
Another point that I got reminded. The last test we won against WI in PoS, SI scored 100+.
Isn't he still a match winner.?

CF,
This is the problem with ST fans. You exaggerate things. First of all in Chennai test against aus, we trailed by 71 runs and when Tendulkar came to bat we were 115/2. Sidhu had just got out after taming both Warne and Robertson setting them up nicely for Tendulkar, and dravid and azhar also scored fifties.
While I agree with you that it is the bowlers who win matches, the fact that ST after playing nearly 100 tests, is yet to have a single big 4th inning score that took india to victory works aginst him. He himself acknowledged this before the WI tour and I expected big things from him in this tour. But things didn't work out well. Hopefully he will do it in the England tour...

CF
Greenidge s 214 on the last day of the II test Vs England 1984
Llyod s 163 at calcutta 1983
Vishwanath s 97 at chennai in 1974
SG s century at Port of Spain in 1976
Gilchrist s recent performances against Aussies,
Redpath s 66 against india at Chennai in 1969
are some examples that Batsman could win matches too.In some of these matches the bowlers had unbelievable bowling figures.
But give me the number of instances when Sachin was required to bring the victory in the IV innings.AFAIK apart the 97 series against WI and Chennai test against Pak rarely he got a chance.
ST is still the only match geniune match winner..or atlest the person with that capabilities india has produced in the last 2 decades.

hey.......know this slightly :) off topic but will try and get back to it soon ;) .......tis neways really borin to get back to ARR vs IR ;)
ST scores over BL only in consistency and his amazing one-day record.........and IMHO no where
else......and wat really matters are test matches........i do know that his test average is more than BL but he doesnt have the thing(??) to produce big scores
BL has got 150+ so many times....
375 vs ENG
277 vs AUS
221 vs SL
213 vs AUS
182 vs AUS??
177 vs SL
153* vs AUS
ST hasnt got this many.......and mind u the 153* was such a crucial innings if u rem......walsh and ambrose did help with their bowling but the target for WI was sum 313 whcih is difficult on any 5th day pitch......and BL got them through with the help of Simmons intially?? and then walsh and ambrose.......this isnt such an easy task
ST did deliver a similar knock at Chennai...........VS PAK..........but he failed to get us home..........playing an unncessary shot........ok there was of course sum luck for BL in that innings coz he was dropped by Warne......although a very difficult chance at slips.......when WI needed sum 6 more runs :)
ST still lacks the knack of producing a match winning innings in test
ok now.......before the admin sees this......i dunno how this relates to the thread but make proper changes to the scenario and fit in IR and ARR in proper places......if possible!!!

Nice to see so many stats gurus here :) we might as well discuss this over mail if Umpire Admin does a Darryl Hair and sends this thread packing.
CF:
You took the words out of my mouth by referring to ST's 92 at Barbados in Mar 97! Yeah, if the innings had not been cut short, we might have won the match. And your point about bowlers setting up the chase for the batsmen is very valid.
ST is capable of adding a match winning knock in the 4th innings to his achievements. But understand closely why it's not yet done. In the matches that we have won(almost all of them on home pitches), India piled up a big score in the first innings(with fellows like Debang Gandhi and Deep Dasgupta making merry!).
And we rarely get a chance to chase 4th innings competitive targets while playing abroad coz our batsmen come a cropper in the first innings itself. Either that or our bowlers dont do a decent job in the 3rd innings. Eng 1996, SA 97 test matches come to mind. Or else the top order folds up in the 4th inn(Madras 99 v Pak).
One occasion when the opening partnership went off in solid fashion was in the ATC match against Pak, Ramesh and Laxman putting on 108 I think(I was present that day at Eden!). But that day, ST was controversially given out.
Wait and see, ST will come good one day!! Even SMG didnt have much 4inn knocks did he?? That 221 at Oval and 96 at Bangalore notwithstanding...
someone get to the topic fast...

CF,
u r completely wrong about the innings by Lara...They chased some big total and won it...Not that it was a simple score to chase....Just remember Lara made 149 to win the match !! It was a fourth innings century, which (y)our fav master blaster hasn't done so far...
I defend tendulkar big time whenever someone talks about his performance....but comparing him with Lara in terms of match winning knocks, i switch sides..

S (@ 128.107.253.40)
That was exactly wat i was referring to......BL making 153* chasing 313 and CF has got it wrong on that stat sayin twas ambrose and walsh who won it with the ball........they rather supported BL with the bat
Prabhu,
i do get ur point on why ST doesnt get chances in fourth innings.......but why doesnt he prove it abroad......we want him to be THE reason for success.......not play a helping hand!!!
though i am a BL fan i do accept that ST is THE greatest batsmen at present......if that needs to be undisputed he needs to prove it with some innings which really helps india win
OK THEN........ADIOS,TATA,BYEBYE,SEE U TO ST AND BL.......GETTING BACK TO MUSIC NOW..........I STILL PREFER ARR
