Raj: DF-la pp-la people vacha peru. kutram sollittae irundhadhaala vachuttaanga.
IR, Rajesh: In the song, "Mein yahaan tukhdon mein jee rahaa hoon.
thu kahin.." sounded Gowrimanohari. with a D2 N3 S d2 pa. Looks nobody thinks that way. :)))
Maalaiyil vedhanai (Sethu) sounds kedharam.
Can we list songs in kedharam?

nakkeerar,
interesting songs in khamaas!! my grand-father use to sing the song sujana jeevana raama suguna bhooshanaa and he told that it is set in Khamaas raaga. I used to like that song much.
Nowadays I'm very much in liking with the Chalapathy Rao's Chiththiram paesudhadi. I some how felt that it was related to sujana jeevana. Now my *feeling* is somewhat justified. Seems the sandham also somewhat similar in these two songs in their pallavis, i think.
Btw, the very interesting part in it is -- classifying Pazhamudhir Cholai yenakkaaga thaan under Khamaas. I heard from somebody that it is based on a different raaga.
Pundits please clarify.

IR_Fan,
"pros" you mean pro-IR ;-)
btw what was so aweful in those questions to term them as awesome? If u find anything wise in those questions then i beg ur pardon for that inadvertant error :-) [ it is true that i don't know even basics of music(any) ]. i'm nowadays familiar with few words like sandham, bass, chord, tune, raaga and above all scale. u can find these words in my posting but they are not from a "real" thought. i find some fillers to fill in my sentences and hence i use them.
Above all, i might have totally misunderstood what you intended to tell in your posting. If so please educate me :-)

kupps...there is a world of difference between the terms "awefull" and "awesome"...remember, i termed your questions as awesome and not awefull :-)....i mentioned this because, a few weeks earlier MS had mentioned that some hardcore folk songs of ilaiyaraaja are based on rare melakartas....so i thought even your songs might be based on such rare ones that only the pros that rule this thread (PTRTT) would be able to tell...please for heaven's sake do not get me wrong..neither am i an adept in Carnatic Music...(PS:By the way, i just coined the abbreviation, PTRTT...so the copyright rests with IR_Fan)...
ok, so PTRTTs help please....
which raaga do the following songs belong:

Kupps: Here is another site for khamas.
http://www.rit.edu/~pnveme/raga/Raga_Khamas.html
kamAs |28| S M1 G3 M1 P D2 N2 S | S N2 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
is a Janyam of harikhamboji
"Chithiram pesudhadi" looks Harikhamboji to me.
For KamAs, I look for stress on ma1, and intro of foreign Ni3.
others might be able to explain how to differentiate kamAs and harikhamboji better.
IR Fan: Thanks for the correction.

malai en vedhanai was discussed earlier and i think it is sankarabaranam. i dont remember what the forum concluded.
Would be happy to know the ragams of the following songs. [1] anbu nadamAdum kalai koodamE (http://www.dhool.com/cgi-bin/display.pl?order=title&query=title+like+'anbu nadamaadum%'&start=0&offset=40&prevq=title+like+'anbu nadamaadum%'). [2] azhage azhagu ( raja parvai.)

IR Fan,
I did not misunderstand you. I said "what was aweful to term it as awesome" with full concious of their meaning and their differences. That aweful and awesome was intentional on my part.
Btw, my questions about "orampo" and "yellorumae" is based on that, that i found some similarity in their structure/pattern(whatever it is) especially in their charanam. Listen to rotila yellam of "orampo" and thundayum thoLula of "yellorumae".
PTRTT :-) good abbreviation.
Regd. Maalai yen vaedhanai it seems really this song is kootify your vaedhanai very much in identifying its raaga :-)
Now let us leave into the hands of pundits to clarify our doubts.

Hey folks,
There is no ruling in this thread :-) u are just as regular participants as we are. So dont ostracize us by branding us :-)
Maalai en vEdhanai koottudhadi - I remeber somebody noting that even though it has only notes of kedhaaram, it is more like ShankarabaraNam wihtout D used. Its feel is more of ShankarabaraNam and I agree with him.
Regarding Pazamudhir sOlai:
Though it is set in harikaamboji, the first line is almost a direct lift from the Papanaasam sivan kriti - naanoru viLaiyaattu bommaiyaa - set in navarasa kaanada. The first lines go as follows:
na|an|o|ru vi|Lai|yaa|ttu bom|mai|yaa
ga|ma|pa|sa dha| ni dhadha maga(risa) |ga|ma|pa
and the first line of pazamudhir solai is
ga|ma|pa|sa sa| ni dhapa|dha dha|ga|ma|pa
But that is all when it comes to the inspiration part.

thank you MS...so can i list it both under kedaram and SB and still not be wrong? If it uses all notes of kedaram, why would you not call it kedaram? ( is it like the case of "ennavale adi ennavale" from kadhalan that is said to be in kedaram but some critics initially said that "ennavale" cannot be kedaram...is this "sethu" song too face similar issue? MS, can you clarify...[(PS: hey kupps, still your questions have not been answered :-)]
