The melodies of MSV are longlived and cherished even today as new. They sound fresh.
ARR, though young in age can be considered as a current day counterpart in composing songs intact with melody, well orchestrated to the mood, giving importance to the lyrical content, the same way MSV did then! I think there is a similarity between the two geniuses.

Satsona - Welcome. I saw you in Rahmanonline earlier.
The easiest way to start a composition is write a short melody - say two bars. Make it complete. For example "kan-du-kon-den kan-du-kon-den". You see how simple and complete it is? Don't worry about copying / imitating. I think thats ok when you do it unintentionally. Later on, you will learn to differentiate and make ur own comps.

Swamiji...I hope u r serious...
if not
do you mean like "Senthooora - poove....Senthooora-poove"!

Cosmician - Yes it is that simple! Try it! Everyone can compose is the idea here. If you think it is complicated, you will find it difficult to start. Think it is easy, and u will do so.

And if you had started with 'sottu niilam dOi..reegal sottu niilam dOi' you would be India's #1 music director, by now !! :) :)

hello everybody who saw my earlier msg here in this forum and posted reply. Thanx for ur replies to that, but i am sorry to say that some of u did not quite understand my mail. When i addressed Mr. Talvin and mr.mahabs, I was being a little sarcastic. I am happy that it was not taken that way by u all.
Mr. mahabs literally started explaining how to get inspiration to make music. I am happy that u shared ur ideas sir, but I wish to inform u that i was asking how to get inspiration in a sarcastic way, since u said rahman lacks creativity. of course my sarcasm also was as a friendly gesture.
what i wish to say is that if u r creative, doesnt mean u work without inspiration. And I feel both spontaneity and hard work are part of a genius, (I didnt understand what u mean by handicap, is hard work a handicap????!!!!)
If u feel so, i differ from ur views.
even a genius has to work hard to express. IR had to learn Western notations to express his music, he would not have got it spontaneously by birth.as for his music which is spontaneous, I am sure Rahman can start doing like that, spontaneously, but no,he doesnt do it bcos he feels perfection is needed, so he takes time.
IR just made music what came naturally to him, and i dont feel he had the time to improvise on a particular song(due to his daily recordings)
Swamiji, Namaskar. Even u didnt understand my mail here:-). i was just joking when i asked mahabs to teach me to compose.
I have been composing for quite some time, some tunes and continuing it, trying to improve upon them.Anyway, thanx for ur suggestion and encouragement. But 1 thing, what u said was right. Whenever a tune comes to me, I keep thinking if it is something I got original or is it something from what i heard already, that is i try to find out if it may be similar to some tune b4. of course it is completely unintentional.
But i am awaiting mr. Talvin's response still. Are u there?
cheers
Satsona

I think it was Thomas Alva Edison who said "Genius is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration !"

I thought you were being sarcastic that's why I asked whether you were suggesting it seriously to Satsona or in a sarcastic way :)
Kiru...
Did ARR compose the "Sottu Neelam doi..." jingle...I know that PC Sriram was the director..
but the strange fact was Ujjala still beat Regal hollow in sales despite the quality of the Regal ad :)

"Ujaala-Regal factor" might be explained as follows. A quality ad will have an impact on the consumers. It does not mean that ONLY quality ad will have an impact on the consumers. there might be some other factor(of Ujala side) that had more impact than the Regal's "quality" ad.
is it the verbal "Ujaalaavukku marittaen; appa neenga" still lingering in the minds of consumers than the visual effect of regal? :-))

I think you are right there Kupps...the message needs to be delivered properly and here it was through that catch phrase...though the ad was very stupid ! It is a strange fact that many award winning ads actually don't increase product sales...it has been noted many a time that when an ad wins an award..the agency that has been handling the product (account) loses it...the company decides to try another agency bcos the sales have not been that good !

hello mr.satsona
i noticed your sarcasm. i wanted to answer "why should i get inspiration? i am not a composer. i get inspiration from my shere of crativity". but forgot to add this. anyhow, i am happy that you are a composer. just remember 'great minds think alike!'
<>
just consoling words from a genius for mere mortals to work hard.
many persons are hard working but their output is small.

i feel he doesn't want to improvise. a creator hates to alter his creation. many poets hate it when their creations are corrected by editors, even if it improves the quality.

It is a lovely fact which is cent percent true.
Time will show the truth. You almost listen to MSVs songs in literally all the programmes Radio or TV, any public function, with appropriateness. Next to that is ARRs songs which is hotcakes for kids and adults alike. No body can object to that.
It is the order of the day and time keeps changing people, things and situations.
It is true that MSV and ARR songs will stand the test of time.
Nobody listens to 76-96 songs as freqently as MSV or ARR songs! Please touch your hear and answer true to your heart! You will know that this is a true fact!

No one can beat the songs of M.K.T and IR. They are hot vadai's to all of people today. All I hear are songs from 1940-1950 and 1975-1990. Rest are not even being aired.

raghuvir, watch a quality program like subthaswarangal, you will know how many 76-96 songs are played. You should have watched young singers who sung before TMS! during its 200th week.

Dear blind people,
IR's music is all time music.
Walk out you home.
In tea shops, buses, hotels, ... all the places plays its player with IRs music.
Now ARR fans are listening his old songs?
Never, Even his fans can't listen his old songs?
But I daily heard IR's songs particularly in 1980s SONGS (the golden years of Tamil file music)
Did any anti IR fan see the kumudam comparison of IR and AR?
