Some amazing Desh numbers in TFM:

1. 'Tunbam NErgayil YAzh eduthu Nee' (MD: C.R. Subbaraman?)
2. 'Vizhiyil Pudu Kavithai Padithen' (great Mano-Chitra duet, MD: IR)
3. 'kaNNE kaNmaNiyE kaN uRangAyO' (movie: ParAshakti?)
3. 'GOpiyar konjum rmaNA gOpAlakrishnA' (TMS, MD: KVM)
4. 'kadalil alaigaL pongum' is a relatively unknown classic in Desh, sung by SPB. The movie is Nellikkani I think. Who was the MD? Sample the lyrics:
"Chinna Chinna kAraNathAl Kannamadhil neer thuLigaL
Ennai Mattum Purindhu koNdAl athanayum thEn thuLigaL
Then thuLiyai thEkki vaikkum tAmarayin idayam ammA
tAmarayai malara vaikkum Adavanin udayam ammA"

This song was regularly featured in Radio Ceylon. Has anyone heard this one? Is it available anywhere online? Thanks.

u have mentioned "Vande mataramh - Anand Math " as Desh.
are u telling about the Famous Slow Desh version of Vande mataram(which was also presented by ARR in his album)?

Bcos there is another Fast song(a superb song) in the Anand math film(by Lata and Chorus), since i remember only that(i learnt in school:), and the raaga for that is a mixture of Sindhu Bhairavi and Chakravaaham(Ahirbhairav), IMHO.

just wanted to clear my doubt..whether the Desh version was present in Anand math film.

The ARR remixed version of Vande Maataram is also set in Desh. Its very same as the version aired by AIR at around 5:30am in the morning, around 15yrs ago..i truly dono if AIR airs it these days.

The AnandMath song (sung by Lata and chorus, music: Hemant Kumar) is mostly in Sindubhairavi, as pointed out by Satnosa.
You are probably referring to the more popular radio version (I think it was set to music by Pt. Ravi Shankar).

As for the Desh-KedAra GowLa equation, I am not quite sure.. probably the prayOg is different.

Muthuswami Dikshitar has composed a wonderful Keertana, 'NeelOtpalA~mbikAyai' in Kedara Gowla.

In fact Dikshitar has composed songs in praise of NeelOtpalAmbika in 9 DIFFERENT GOWLAs!
(they all begin with NeelOtpalAmbika):
1. GowLa
2. Chaaya Gowla
3. Reeti GowLa
4. Kannada GowLa
5. Purva GowLa
6. Kannada GowLa
7. kEdAra GowLa
9. NAri Reeti Gowla
9. MAya mAlava GowLa

Another interesting fact about the above compositions is that Dikshitar has showed his mastery over the Sanskrit language by composing each song in a different VIBHAKTI (affixes - nominative, dative, accusative, possessive etc.)

'JAgO MOhan PyArE' is Bhairav (Carnatic equivalent is MAyA mALava GowLa).
There's 'ammA roTi de' - a Lata song from SansAr (Music was by Emani Shankar Shastri & MD Parthasarathy). I think it was a remake of AVM's vAzhkkai *ing VyjayanthimAla.
Another very popular Bhairav song in HFM is 'mOhE bhool gayE sAvariyA'.
There are many many songs in this rAga in TFM though. In fact IR himself must have tuned in a couple of dozens! Here are a few:

2. Madura Marikkozhundu vAsam (Enga Ooru pAttukkAran)

This might be a small digression. Nevertheless, the song 'Ennu Varam Nee' from the movie Kannaki sung by both KJY and Chithra appears to have Neelambari/Kedharam shades. Please clarify?

Ram,Sindhuja and all ROS members...i happened to hear 'sengamalam sirikudhu' (Bhagyaraj & Radhika starrer), i think the film is 'dhavani kanavugal'. What a under-recognized song set in "Lalitha"!!!!. Can someone confirm though?

Ram, Sindhuja...i am afraid there are no links to the song..how i wish you guys listen to this 'sengamalam sirikkudhu' from Dhavani Kanavugal..the same high quality one can find in 'idhazhil kadhayezhudhum'..i believe & am fully convinced that it is "Lalitha"...and what a rendering by SPB & Janaki.

Satsona,yen iniya ponnilAve-is it the 1 where Prakash pothan sings with a guitar?I heard this looong back,so don't remember properly-From what I can recollect,I think it's Natabhairavi(I'm able to remember only 1 or 2 starting lines....)
And Nalam vAzha-lovely song with beautiful usage of keyboard-it is mostly Sumanesa ranjani with few deviations.
