AR Rahman's Tamil Blockbuster "BOYS"

Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....

Also; use this thread to discuss this album..

Here is what i found::

Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.

Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.

In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.

Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.

For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

  normal man..i belive its experience speaks...hehhehe...and i need to say one thing...if boys is a stupid movie...then tamil people are even more stupid..which they cant agree nothign but facts...all they need is crap story which is just fantacy & not reality...coz they will do what eva they show in boys,and when its screened by some dir/movie...its a sin...tamil nadu peep r soo damn backwards...u guys better go & see Darling Darling Darling or some senceless bakiaraj films...u guys dont deserve maestro's like shankar,mani ratnam & even ARR...damn with u all...
  
  - boys is running good in malaysia...and its rated 3rd all over malaysia (the sales of ticket)the only tamil movie & top 10..no 1 is Pirates or Carribean...No2 is Medalion......3 is BOYS - By SHankar-ARRAHMAN!!!!JAy JAy to The combo!!

  Shankar’s films dubbed into Telugu have always done well in Andhra. His Jeans and Muthalvan were bigger hits in Andhra than in Tamilnadu. The latest we hear is that Boys is doing blockbuster business all over Andhra.
  
  The dubbed Boys is doing better than straight Telugu films like Seetayya. In Visakhapatanam’s prestigious Jagadamba theatre, Boys has grossed Rs 8, 24 068 in a week while Seetayya could manage to gross only Rs 6,30,473 in two weeks! In Hyderabad there is a repeat audience for the film as theatres screening Boys continue to be packed!
  
  The old adage- “One man’s food is another man’s poison” seems to be true as far as vulgarity and Boys are concerned. The original in Tamil was actually passed by the Hyderabad censors which itself created a controversy in Tamilnadu.
  
  And for the Telugu audience, vulgarity is nothing new as films like Chitram and Bachelor had more double meaning dialogues and scenes than in Boys. In the recent super hit Simhadri NTR is shown enjoying the fruits of bigamy as he ends up marrying two heroines in the end!
  
  According to trade analysts Boys may do Rs 15 crore business easily which can classify the film as a super hit!

  i would say there is nothin wrong with BOYS....what has been shown are just pure incidents in the life of five boys...y take it personal? these scenes are bound to be shown, if the subject being handled is such
  
  nobody blames Thulluvatho Ilamai or Kathal Kondaen...y? ... that is because there were no sorts of expectations from a director who is new or one who is following up Thulluvatho Ilamai...like u know what would be shown and are prepared for it...that is why it doesnt hurt
  
  but, when the same stuff is shown in a Shankar's movie, u seem to get that feeling of disappointment for Shankar's movies usually can be watched with the family...but my point is there is nothing wrong if a new subject is handled by a director....even K.Balachander handled a Manmatha Leelai, which for the yesteryears is definitely vulgar
  
  all these oppsoition is only because the movie is by Shankar....like talking about that one tends to gain popularity...do u know there was movie called Varaar Sandiyar starring Prem(the useless!)...y didnt it face any opposition? ... the oppsition came only for KAMAL's Sandiyar...y is that? ... simple ... u just mention Kamal,Rajni,Shankar etc and the matter would make it to the headlines the next day
  
  so, IMO Shankar has not done anything wrong with BOYS....i don't see the need to put him down for handling a controversial subject...things at some scenes are a bit overdone, but you can't deny the background stuff, for that is what is going on today

  mm....can u please tell me a tamil film which is as technically excellent as BOYS...
  what did u not find in BOYS....every damn song is shot in an amazing manner, each having something special to it...
  1)Girlfriend had the 'graphic girl'
  2)Dating had unsual picturisation w.r.t. Beach Resorts
  3) Ale Ale...u know what it had right?...pretty surprising that it did not interest you...this is the best possible way the Matrix stuff can be imitated in Tamil Films at present...mayb ur more into the Ramanarayan graphics or something!
  4)Saregame...that MTV awards show...even that did not impress you?
  5)BoomBoom....the amount of efforts that had gonr into the costumes and sets were amazing....this is a FACT....no point denying it
  6)MaaroMaaro....the number of ppl involved in the song....this much of co-ordination is simply excellent
  then u have this 5.1 digital track...y do u feel BOYS din deserve it? ... the name ARR wud suggest that BOYS definitely deserved it
  the nose cut graphic was a nice innovation...
  
  actually....what were u expecting more? ... did u sit in the theatre thinking that they were playing Matrix Revolutions and thus disappointed at finding songs in the movie? ... well, there are a couple of months more before that film will release...some one has cheated you i guess!!

  Chennai: Even as Boys, the latest film by Shanker, is evoking criticism of being vulgar, Puthiyah Thamizhagam party leader K Krishnasamy, who had first demanded a ban, queered the pitch further, saying that merely cutting off a few objectionable scenes was not enough.
  
  
  
  Addressing a press conference, he said his party had formed committees or "censor boards" comprising various sections of the people, who would be viewing the film in different parts of the Tamil Nadu.
  
  "Our party will decide the future course of action against the movie and demand withdrawal of the scenes which these committees would recommend," he said.
  
  The PT leader said removal of some scenes by the makers of Boys was only partly acceptable but the mistake of having made a film in such a way that it would instigate the youth to behave 'in a manner alien to our culture,' had to be corrected.
  
  Mr Krishnasamy had earlier taken up cudgels against actor Kamal Hassan's new film originally named Sandiyar/i>, alleging that it should be banned as it would arouse communal passions.
  
  Following this Kamal Hassan, who is also directing the film, dropped the title, which indicated a particular caste. The new title of this film was yet to be announced eventhough the shooting was going on. UNI

  Don't worry.
  Boys is a flop coz of shankar made similar of TI.Even it is a hit the credit will go to shankar only.
  
  ARR has nothing to do with it.You can also claim that it is a flop since ARR left the BGM to praveen mani. The BGM of praveen mani also one of the reason for the BOYS flop.

  the moment anybody mentions Shankar's name u tend to think about graphics...dancing skeletons,dinosaurus, etc etc....exquisite picturisation, great music are the add ons to this...with these expectation, Shankar will be nowhere if he takes low budget films...u saw what is happening when there is a change in the portrayal right? ... well this is a minor setback(a non family entertainer)...and u are talking about a major setback!
  the same is not true with KB, BR, MR etc etc....their films have strong story and strong characterisation...these are secondary in a Shankar film!
  to sum up...
  Story is a neccessity and graphics/picturisation is a luxury in a KB movie.
  Graphics are a neccesity and Story is a luxury in a Shankar movie!

  hmm... interesting..... couple of questions to those who say "nothing wrong in BOYS movie".
  
  1. So, I assume you all have the "Saroja Devi" ugly books in your house, along with Anandha Vikatan, Kumudam etc kind of books.
  
  2. And tomorrow when Shankar or any other director makes a BLUE FILM and release it with the title as "GIRLS" - and this film will have "ALL" that happens in a "GIRLS" life, Iam sure you all will support that too.
  
  Paavingallaa..... if u guys had supported the "goodness" in the movie (does it have one, I have no clue), then its ok.... for gods sake, pls do not support these saying "TI did it, KK did it, so why not BOYS".....
  
  Vulgarity - if its from PREM or from Shankar or from Kamal has to be condemned. But the problem is, how many would have know the movie "varraar Sandiyaar" or PREM for that matter. And how many knows KAMAL ? You know the answer.
  
  The more and more we say to ourself that, "edhilaa ennaa irukku.... this happens in everyone's life", iam sure soon we will be blue films only.....
  
  and well, i will wait for someone to come and say that "iam backward in my thoughts" or that "iam a PR of some guy" (C~P, i never knew that if 2 persons have the same opinion, then one has to be a PR of the other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
