TFM boasts of several contemporary poets like Bharadhidhasan, Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram, Kannadhasan and Vali (Version I) who penned several songs dealing with social issues such as work ethic (uzhaippu), labor rights, women's position in society, religion, caste, patriotism/ nationalism, money/power/greed and the such. In addition, non-film kavidhaigaL from Bharadhi and Bharadhidhasan have been included in TFM to heighten social awareness.
Let's go ahead and discuss some of these songs--old and new--which address some key social issues even as they were entertaining the masses in the context of the movie situation. Please elaborate on the lyrics and your thoughts on the same as your time would allow.

Good to see you back in DF! Thanks for continuing the conversation on Bharadhi.
I tend to agree with you that we, as a society, are nowhere close to achieving Bharadhi's vision socially, politically, morally, economically. I'm glad you perceive women's emancipation goal has been achieved. In my humble opinion, we are not even close to his vision in mAdharthammai adimai seyyum madamaithanaik koLuththuvOm despite some limited progress such as women in the workplace etc. A very small example--don't you think the extremely lucrative movie industry will stop being so lucrative if Bharadhi's vision for women comes true? The women's issue is just an example of how we still have a long way to go to rise above centuries of social conditioning.
Sorry for the digression. Back to topic.....
