I recollected him...he's Mukundan...
http://www.geocities.com/thillana1947/muks.html
His score that I was mentioning...

This is a live show...imagine what would have been the quality if it was recorded in studio.
Regards,
Aditya

OK Guys! Now that the context came...can somebody explain how to Mix...All the Musicians and Sound Engineers can contribute to this topic...Please take a genre of music like Jazz, Carnatic, Pop, Heavy Metal etc.,...and then your choice:-)) Let's not verify if it was authentic -> Let's try not to take these things seriously but consider them as several good choices -> feel free to express your ideas...Make this thread more constructive...

Mixing is a huge subject by itself. They say a mix can break or make a song.

Ah finally this forum alive and kicking Mahesh Shankar(Maha) thanks for you response regarding bass notes. Man even though I am not a bassist but I love funk basses slapping and pop they give you the kick. Can't help but think of two old IR songs one has one hell of slapping and keyboards playing slashed chord punches http://www.raajangahm.com/guitarprasanna/15.ram And other one superb running bass notes that follows the song beautifully http://www.raajangahm.com/guitarprasanna/16.ram (source credits:Raajangahm)
I am sure Maha,Swamiji,Raja G and others would have played this songs so many times on stage.
Back to Maha - The only constructive suggestion regarding the singing is what Mr.Kiru said earlier, singers should have put in some more 'bhavam' into the song :) thats all keep it coming buddy.
BTW back in '91' my friends released an album called 'OMKAR' it was released by HMV UK,but didnt do very well though the songs where played in fashion shows,it was fusion jazz, little hindustani and carnatic the theme is 5 stages of a man Jananam, bhalyam, yuvannam, grahastha, mukthi I will try to upload some sample later..

Very interesting.... I used to play with Divakar, Ian and Karthik for quite some time. Divakar and I did quite a few jingles together and we also did a lot of recordings and concerts. Later, I started playing with Ganesh-Kumaresh, Sivamani, Vikku vinayaka ram, selva ganesh and people like that. So, anyways, that's an interesting match. The world, I guess is afterall a small place... ;-)

UV,
Another lesser known bass guitar composition by Ilaiyaraja. 'Mega Deepam' from the movie 'Aagaya Gangai'. This song is sung by M.Vasudevan. Uses Flanger Bass.
I need to listen to Mugangal when I get home.

UV, yes, Sriram, Ian, me, Divakar and Karthik were part of Bamboo shoot. A little while later Sriram took up singing and had lesser and lesser time to devote to his flute. This is a pity, because I think he was a much better flautist than a singer. And Ian moved to S'pore. So, essentially Bamboo shoot broke up, but me, Divakar and Karthik kept playing together for sometime, and Divakar and I did a lot of jingles, recordings and concerts. We were going to start working on the music for a serial, but I left to the US to do my masters before that.
I started playing with Vikku Vinayaka ram in parallel, and started doing a lot of concerts/recordings with Vikku Vinayaka Ram, Selva Ganesh, Subash Chandran, Pazhanivel, and others. Then I got together with GHanesh-Kumaresh and we were playing together in a band called Brahma, which was Ganesh-Kumaresh, Sivamani, Selva Ganesh, Vikku Vinayaka Ram, me, and Nadaka - a french guitarist. As I was doing this, Siva and I did a lot of shows and recording together, and then I was just freelancing for a lot of recordings and concerts with other musicians like VV Subramaniam and so on.
So, that's the deal with me. I'll listen to your compositions and mail you back....They do have my pic on the mugangal website - I should be the guy sitting with Tony on the consoles and the keyboards.
Take care.

OH Jeez so that 'Mahesh' was you,man world is small place indeed.
Because Sriram has mentioned lots of time about you. I think we have even met once.
Divakar played few songs that you guys recorded together. Anyway last time I went to Madras I couldnt contact none of the fellow but heard Divakar is doing well so is Karthik,
Sriram even though I tried couldnt heard he has moved out of mylapore.
Ian and I used to touch base when I was at singapore but once i came to US lost touch with everyone, but wait till i tell Ghatam and Divakar about this,BTW do you know Rajkumar/Rajkoo

Mahesh says, "It's about a certain kind of genre, along with my musical influences. I'm not too kicked about dance/electronica/techno. I love "live" and natural sounds. "
Thank God..there are still people like this. BTW, Mahesh this shows in your recording, one of the reasons I liked it. When you say, "Like I said earlier, the music has been made to try and enhance the lyrics." I feel that should actually be the definition of a song !!!
Are only composers and sound engineers allowed to comment on mixing ? :) I am a listener and surely have opinions on how a mix should be..todays music where the rhythm stays in front and the voice is totally reverbed out into the background is not my cup of tea.
UV, if there is a lament in your post about why these albums are not that very popular - my opinion is - the topics that albums like this take up are too 'pedantic', 'didactic' or some synonyms of these words :) One of the reasons film music is popular is because the audience has a context...If you want to do albums like this..the market is not mature enough for that..not even sure if you just personalise it like the way rock musicians did (by writing from their personal experience) it will be welcomed in our society which values conformance than individuality.. I am digressing too much, I guess..
It is a small world ...especially when you have an internet connection. Ramesh, I am a friend of your brother from Anna University days..

Mahesh,
When I said "mix", I didn't mean the sound engineering kind of "mix". I meant the blend of vocals and instruments. Hope I clarified it for you. Pin pointing is not possible, since I am no technical guru to put what I felt into technical words and exactly say that IS the problem. I just felt it, and I just put it in. Maybe a little harsh and arrogant in my way, I don't know any other way in which I can criticise a track :o)
Peace

UV, I dont know Rajkumar, though I have heard about him thru Divakar and Karthik.
Kiru, thank you very much for the comments. I would love to have you sign our guestbook on mugangal.com, and listen to the full songs. I am glad you liked the samples. :-) I think you are absolutely right about the performance of these albums. I think that film music has dominated the music industry in India for too long. Independent or private albums are a paradigm shift. It doesnt help if the albums are not "filmi". Personally, I think that it is going to take some time for public opinion to change, but I am hoping that people like us dont stop trying to bring about the change. One day, I am sure our efforts will pay off.
As for the mixes, I will try and put up some stuff about it on my webpage, with related links. I'll send out a link as soon as I get it up.
Cheers.
Mags
